IPSWICH TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT THURS.6.2.03

WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - DEAD

RACE 1: QUEENSLAND TIMES YOUR LOCAL NEWS H'CAP - 1100M.

No racing incidents.

RACE 2: IPSWICH CITY COUNCIL H'CAP - 1100M.

As M. Pelling was indisposed, G. Colless was substituted as the rider of JUMPS, G. Colless as the rider of ALL CHEER (Race 7) and J. Powell as the rider of UNION SQUARE (Race 8).

YANDINA LASS, which was kicked behind the barriers prior to the start, was inspected by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

Shortly after the start, RUMMAGE shifted in, which resulted in HILDANE having to be steadied. RUMMAGE continued to shift in, taking SHIPSWAY across the heels of SEA VENTURE.

Approaching the first turn, LEICA KAAPTIVE momentarily had to be steadied when JUMPS shifted in.

Near the 700m., DOC HOLLYWOOD, which was overracing, had to be checked off the heels of RUMMAGE on 2 occasions.

Approaching the home turn, SHIPSWAY shifted out to improve and made contact with DOC HOLLYWOOD. A short distance later, DOC HOLLYWOOD continued to shift out and made contact with the hind quarters of JUMPS.

JUMPS was obliged to race wide for the majority of the race.

When questioned regarding his riding out of BLU INTENT over he final 200 metres, C. Reith stated that the horse had a hard run throughout and, in his opinion, was inclined to run about when tiring. Stewards however instructed C. Reith to ride his mounts right out to the finish line.

A veterinary examination of BELLO MONTATO following the race revealed the colt had dislodged an incisor tooth.

The club's veterinary surgeon also reported that RUMMAGE had sustained a deep laceration to the near side flexor tendon.

Jockeys D. Tanti and D. Green were each fined the sum of $200 for misconduct by using improper language in the saddling paddock and jockeys' room following the running of race 2.

RACE 3: BANK COIN QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.

LA QUALITY, which jumped away awkwardly, shifted in, making contact with WAPILLY.

BROEMMA and YOOGALI GIRL were slow to begin.

Leaving the 1000m., LA QUALITY had a tendency to shift in and away from WAPILLY and made contact with CHARRIE.

Approaching the home turn, NOTABLE GIRL was forced wider on the track.

YOOGALI GIRL, which finished a distant last, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon with no abnormalities reported. Trainer J. Thomas was advised that YOOGALI GIRL must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to its next race start.


RACE 4: ROBIAN STEEL H'CAP - 1350M.

BUCK'S FREEZE jumped awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with ROBREDO.

I DANCE I RUN was slow to begin.

Over the concluding stages, MY ANNUITY shifted in abruptly when struck with the whip.


RACE 5: LIGHTNING BEND H'CAP - 2150M.

NARRENA was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1400m., KAYO CURLEY shifted out of its own accord and clipped the heels of THE GREY TIGER and blundered.

Passing the 600m., SOME RED had a tendency to lay in, which resulted in THE GREY TIGER having to be steadied and become unbalanced.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of KAYO CURLEY, L. Deguara stated that when the pace slackened after leaving the 1400m. she was obliged to check off heels, and that the filly was then reluctant to stretch out and compounded badly after the 700m..The club's veterinary surgeon reported that KAYO CURLEY pulled up lame in the near fore leg.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of NERREENA, stable foreperson Mrs Sue Thomson stated that connections expected a forward showing in today's event, however in her opinion the gelding may have not backed up from its run at Doomben on 1 February. A veterinary examination of NERRENA failed to reveal any abnormality, and a swab sample was taken.


RACE 6: BAROSSA BOY H'CAP - 1000M.

Trainer B. Wakefield was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for FAIRY MUSIC by the prescribed time.

BOLD LITIGATOR, which sustained an injury when proceeding to the barriers, was withdrawn at 3.34 p.m.. on veterinary advice. FAIRY MUSIC, which sustained an injury at the barriers, was also withdrawn on veterinary advice at 3.37 p.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on BOLD LITIGATOR and FAIRY MUSIC were ordered to be refunded in full, and deductions were made in accordance with the Racing and Betting Act - i.e. all bets placed prior to the withdrawal of BOLD LITIGATOR at 3.34 p.m. be subject to deductions of 23 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 16 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. In relation to bets placed after the withdrawal of BOLD LITIGATOR and prior to the withdrawal of FAIR MUSIC at 3.37 p.m., such bets to be subject to deductions of 16 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 14 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.

SUAVE THOUGHT made the home turn awkwardly.

IN SYNC was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.


RACE 7: ROMAN SENATOR H'CAP - 1500M.

MIDNIGHT DEAL was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages of the event.


RACE 8: RANCHO MISS H'CAP - 1350M.

Trainer S. Dwyer was fined $50 for presenting CRIANCA to the enclosure with incorrect gear.

FULL SONG and MELT THE GUNS jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

L. Fitzsimmons, rider of MELT THE GUNS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 1200m., he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of FULL SONG, resulting in FULL SONG having to be checked. In this incident, GOLDIE'S SON also had to be steadied. L. Fitzsimmons was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 10 meetings to commence at midnight, 9 February, and to expire at midnight, 23 February 2003.

For some distance after passing the 1000m., FULL SONG got its head up and overraced.

Near the 900m., GOLDIE'S SON shifted in and made contact with the running rail.

Approaching the 800m., TRISTACASS had to be restrained off the heels of UNION SQUARE, and then a short distance later, TRISTACASS dipped of its own accord.

JO MAC and NOBLE MOSES were each obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.




ALL WINNERS AND NERRENA WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
