WEATHER – FINE TRACK – GOOD RAIL – OUT 3M
RACE 1: GOLDEN RHAPSODY H'CAP – 1350M
Apprentice K. Cunningham was fined the sum of $50 for failing to claim her full allowance on SMART DANCER.
LOOK HERE TAY jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin.
In the early stages CARLITA MISS commenced to hang in and rounding the 900m turn shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in LOOK HERE TAY having to be checked after being tightened on to the running rail.
CYMBAL OF POWER was obliged to race wide in the middle stages.
Rounding the home turn CARLITA MISS, which continued to hang, shifted out abruptly and forced CYMBAL OF POWER wider on the track. CARLITA MISS continued to hang for the remainder of the event. Trainer A. Bailey was advised that a warning would be placed on CARLITA MISS in relation to the filly's racing manners.
A post-race veterinary examination of CYMBAL OF POWER failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 2: IN LUCK H'CAP – 1350M
Leaving the 900m ARABIAN GIFT commenced to race ungenerously when being restrained. TUCKOMBIL LODGE, which was following, commenced to race fiercely off that runner's heels and as a result shifted out abruptly. At the same time, CALL ME ARTIE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CROWN WARRIOR which shifted in.
Passing the 800m TUCKOMBIL LODGE, KAYHILL and CALL ME ARTIE all had to be steadied due to the slow pace of the race.
RACE 3: CLAYMORE BOY H'CAP - 1000M
N. Jolly was fined the sum of $50 for negligence in that he failed to weigh out with irons.
A THOUSAND DEGREES and TELE SERIES were slow to begin.
Approaching the home turn A THOUSAND DEGREES had to be steadied off the heels of PAY THE POET which shifted in.
CIRCLE OF WHITE hung throughout the event and shortly after entering the straight shifted out abruptly, crowding PAY THE POET and TELE SERIES on to HELIUM.
When questioned regarding the racing manners of CIRCLE OF LIGHT, N. Jolly stated that in his opinion the gelding had reacted adversely to getting its tongue caught in the ring bit. Trainer M. Lewis confirmed that this had occurred after seeing the bit on return to the enclosure. In the circumstances stewards took no action against the gelding but advised Mr Lewis that they will monitor CIRCLE OF LIGHT's racing manners in future.
RACE 4: HUSSAR'S COMMAND H'CAP – 1000M
PLANAGRAM and IN ON MAGIC jumped away awkwardly.
Stewards opened in inquiry into the reason why D. Tanti was dislodged from TRISTRAM'S TRUCE approaching the 150m. Evidence was taken from apprentice M. Spriggs, the rider of ARGONAUT, and his representative, trainer H. Norman. As D. Tanti had been transported to hospital, the matter was adjourned to allow him to tender evidence at the inquiry. The Club's veterinary surgeon inspected TRISTRAM'S TRUCE following the event and reported no significant injuries. Subsequently, D. Tanti's riding engagements were amended as follows:
Race 6 CLOLEFIN M. Rodd
Race 7 FIRE WOOD C. Whiteley
Race 8 SENSIBLE P. Hammersley
RACE 5: BALLYMAN'S BOY H'CAP – 1100M
MELLING jumped away awkwardly.
UP TRUMPS was slow to begin.
PRIDE OF PARIS and MELLING were obliged to race wide throughout the event.
RACE 6: HOT ON ACES H'CAP – 2150M
L. Cook sought permission from the stewards to be released from her engagement on RUNYON BEAUTY due to personal reasons. As trainer S. Phelps agreed to this, C. Whiteley was substituted as the rider of that horse.
AEROLITO and ANTONIA ROSE were slow to begin.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, CRAZY FELLA shifted out and made contact with SQUADRON COMMANDER.
Leaving the 1500m KENTUCKY THUNDER commenced to race ungenerously for some distance when being restrained off the heels of RISKY BUSINESS.
MORRIS MINOR was obliged to race wide throughout the event.
Approaching the home turn ANTONIA ROSE had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of CLOLEFIN.
Rounding the home turn CLOLEFIN shifted out to improve to the outside of the heels of the tiring WILD BY NATURE and in doing so crowded AEROLITO on to KENTUCKY THUNDER which had to be steadied to avoid the heels of RUNYON BEAUTY. M. Rodd, the rider of CLOLEFIN, was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.
RACE 7: DISTANCIA H'CAP – 1500M
LORD MAYOR reared at the start and lost ground.
MAZIERE was slow to begin.
MAZIERE was obliged to race wide from the middle stages of the event.
RACE 8: BURGLAR OF BAMFF H'CAP – 1350M
As J. Powell was stood down from his engagement on CALM ACTION by the Club's medical officer, R. Goltz was substituted as the rider of that gelding.
NAKED SPUR jumped out at the start and tightened TRAIT on to CALM ACTION.
Approaching the 450m TRAIT, which was racing in restricted room to the inside of PRINCE ADDAMA, had to be checked after shifting in and striking the running rail.
Approaching the 50m ANTARES dipped.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
