RACE 1: FASHIONS ON THE FIELD'S GREAT PRIZES - 1350M.
STARCRAFT was slow to begin.
SAM'S FOLLY and BRAVE CRUSADER came together on jumping away.
Approaching the 1000m., SAM'S FOLLY raced ungenerously.
Near the 700m., PARNASSUS had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PICWORTH, which shifted in.
STARCRAFT was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
COOPER KING was unable to obtain clear running for the majority of the straight.
Near the 150m., MISTER MINUTE shifted out under pressure and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PARNASSUS.
Approaching the finish line, PARNASSUS had to be steadied when tightened for room between PICWORTH and JUST A GENERAL, which shifted in.
BRAVE CRUSADER lost its off hind plate in running.
RACE 2: IPSWICH SOCIAL EVENT OF THE YEAR, CUPDAY MAIDEN H'CAP - 1350M.
PARDUBICE was slow to begin.
A. Raby, rider of CHIPPY'S PICK, was reprimanded for shifting in after passing the 1200m. when insufficiently clear of MOMENT, resulting in MOMENT having to be steadied.
Passing the 700m., FERNY DESERT, which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of MOMENT.
TURAKINA ran wide making the home turn.
J. Warrington, rider of SOMETHING FOR KATE, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in passing the 800m., resulting in MICK OR MICHAEL having to be steadied.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GRAND SOCIETY, J. Powell stated that he was instructed to take up a forward position in the field, however the filly, in his opinion, was not travelling well enough to do so, and he therefore elected to ease back in an endeavor to position the filly closer to the rail. He added however he was not able to do so and was forced to race 4 wide for the majority of the event. J. Powell further stated that, in his opinion, GRAND SOCIETY was uncomfortable travelling right-handed for the first time. A veterinary examination of GRAND SOCIETY failed to reveal any abnormality, and a swab sample was taken from the filly.
RACE 3: IPSWICH CUPDAY 28TH JUNE H'CAP - 1020M.
Trainer B. Guy was fined $50 for failing to notify a gear change for LA LA LAND by the prescribed time.
MODEL BRIDE and BONARBRIDGE came together on jumping away.
Near the 900m., SILMONT shifted in momentarily tightening BONARBRIDGE. BONARBRIDGE then continued to lay in and away from SILMONT despite the efforts of its K. Yoshida, rider of BONARBRIDGE, resulting in tightening to MODEL BRIDE, TOO MUCH TROUBLE and ROOKY ROGER. In this incident, ROOKY ROGER made heavy contact with the running rail and lost considerable ground.
Approaching the 500m., MISS JONES shifted out to improve, taking COUNTRY PACK wider on the track.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of TOO MUCH TROUBLE, J. Powell stated that the colt travelled well, but when placed under pressure in the straight, failed to run on. A veterinary examination of TOO MUCH TROUBLE failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 4: CUPDAY JUNE 28TH, WHAT A DAY! CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1700M.
Shortly after the start, GENERAL QUARTERS, BALEZE and SEAHAWK DANCER were tightened for room between FAVELAS and SHE'S A DISH, which shifted in.
From after passing the 1500m., SHE'S A DISH raced fiercely and continued to pull hard for some distance.
TOUCH OF MOOBALL was inclined to lay in in the straight.
When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on SHOW MARTIAL, C. Eaton stated that her instructions were to allow the horse to stride forward and not to restrain the horse in any way as it had a tendency to throw its head and race very ungenerously if restrained. Trainer T. Hutcheson confirmed the instructions. Stewards accepted the explanation.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that BALEZE pulled up lame in the near hind leg.
RACE 5: CUP, WHAT A DAY! BE PART OF THIS GREAT EVENT H'CAP - 1100M.
MISTY TYCOON and DREAMS CAFÉ were slow to begin.
RACE 6: JOIN TH EFUN, IN ONE OF THE MARQUEES! H'CAP - 1200M.
SAMANDER and AWESOME SHADOW were slow to begin.
LION'S REVENGE jumped awkwardly.
Approaching the first turn, IN NEW YORK pulled hard and had to be restrained off the heels of ROYAL TABOO.
Nearing the 700m., SAMANDER raced up on to the heels of IN NEW YORK and had to be steadied.
Shortly after entering the straight, FLY LIKE AN EAGLE was held up for clear running.
RACE 7: JOIN THE FUN, IPSWICH CUPDAY H'CAP - 1350M.
Trainer D. Burns was advised that SEA THE WAY will be ineligible to race until the ownership for the gelding is in order.
TELE SERIES was slow to begin, then raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
ADMIRAL ROBINSON hung out from after passing the 900m. and did so for the remainder of the event.
ANGLERS ARMS blundered near the 400m..
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of ANGLERS ARMS, C. Whitely stated that after travelling well in front, when placed under pressure near the 500m., the horse failed to respond and proved most disappointing. A veterinary examination of ANGLERS ARMS revealed the horse to have a slower than normal recovery rate.
RACE 8: WE HAVE A FREE! LIVE BAND! CUPDAY H'CAP - 1350M.
After riding COUNTRY PACK in race 3, G. Baker was examined by the club's doctor and stood down from his engagement on CENTRAL BANKER in this event. M. Bennett was substituted as the rider of that horse.
QUEENSBURY ROAD pulled hard in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the 800m., CENTRAL BANKER raced up on to the heels of WISEPOINTS and had to be steadied.
Rounding the home turn, EYES FOREVER shifted out, taking APPIAN RULE wider on the track.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of WISEPOINTS, apprentice T. Ono could offer no explanation. Trainer M. Nolan stated that in his opinion the gelding overraced in the early and middle stages and was today stepping up in distance at its second run from a spell. A veterinary examination of WISEPOINTS failed to reveal any abnormality.
Stewards will interview S. Galloway, rider of BUMP, regarding his riding out of that horse over the concluding stages.
ALL WINNERS AND GRAND SOCIETY AND ANGLERS ARMS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
