IPSWICH TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 10.01.04

WEATHER – OVERCAST TRACK – GOOD RAIL – IN TRUE POSITION

GENERAL: As G. Farrer was indisposed, the following riding replacements were approved:

Race 2 SIMPLY VIV D. Miller
Race 3 MILITARIUS A. Abrahams
Race 5 MISS FORD D. Griffin

As R. Crilley was indisposed, the following riding replacements were approved:

Race 5 OLYMPIC SUNRISE A. Kennedy
Race 8 RUFF NIPPER C. Eaton

RACE 1: N J TOMLEY H'CAP – 2150M

OUT CRUISING, which shifted a plate en route to the track, was subsequently examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and withdrawn at 11.45 a.m. by stewards acting on veterinary advice.

IT'S SIMPLE knuckled on jumping away.

JUST MACCA, which was slow to begin, was hampered shortly after by ARDOSH which shifted out.

SCOOTERS jumped away awkwardly.

Making the turn out of the straight, FLYING FEET commenced to overrace and shifted out taking IT'S SIMPLE wider on the track.

The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that SCOOTERS sustained a laceration to the off fore heel in running.

RACE 2: TOMLEY GATHERING QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1500M

SIRCOLO, which was unable to be loaded, was declared a late scratching at 1.21 p.m. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on SIRCOLO be refunded, with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets applicable. Trainer G. Rafter was advised that a further barrier certificate must be obtained prior to its next race start.

SHORE, LOS ALTOS and BERNY TO were slow to jump.

BARITONE, which lugged out badly making the first turn, was retired from the event by jockey D. Evans. Trainer R. Kirwin was advised that BARITONE must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to its next race start.

SHORE raced wide from the 800m until approaching the home turn.

SHORE, which finished at the rear of the field, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon who reported that the horse was suffering from heat distress.

Trainer D. Smith requested to view the video in regard to D. Miller's riding out of SIMPLY VIV in the straight. D. Miller stated that for approximately four to five strides approaching the 300m, he was prevented from using the whip when it became entangled in the horse's mane as he was pulling it through from his left hand to his right hand. Upon viewing the video and hearing D. Miller's explanation, Mr Smith was satisfied with D. Miller's ride.

RACE 3: J R BARNIER H'CAP - 1350M

SIOUXMAN, which attempted to buck in its preliminary, dislodging its rider D. Miller, was subsequently examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Trainer C. Shirley was advised that a warning was being placed on SIOUXMAN in relation to its pre-race behaviour.

SIR STYLE jumped away awkwardly and shifted out hampering MILITARIUS and SHORTY GEORGE.

NOTHIN LEICA DREAM raced wide throughout.

D. Evans, the rider of MAY THUNDER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that passing the 400m he directed his mount out which resulted in ADMIRING CHOICE having to be checked and losing its position. D. Evans was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence at midnight on Thursday, 15 January, and expire at midnight on Monday, 26 January 2004.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of MAYNE IMPULSE, trainer J. Bannon stated that at its previous start at Warwick on 26 December 2003 the start was delayed for some considerable time after a false start. He added that the gelding had galloped for some distance before being restrained and was subsequently passed fit to start by the Club's veterinary surgeon. Mr Bannon also stated that the gear change with blinkers on and tongue tie off may have improved MAYNE IMPULSE's performance today as the gelding had won a barrier trial in Toowoomba the previous Tuesday wearing blinkers.

The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that MILITARIUS pulled up sore in the near fore fetlock.

RACE 4: N J T INVITATION H'CAP – 1350M

Due to an office error, M. Carson was omitted as the rider of SIERRA SAL in the racebook.

GRISCHA, which was a little slow to jump, was hampered shortly after the start by FREEDOM CRY which shifted out.

I'M A WAG jumped away awkwardly.

ARID MISS was slow to jump.

Near the 1000m SEAINTA had to be restrained of the heels of MEADOW SOPRANO which shifted in. A short distance later, SEAINTA commenced to overrace and had to be steadied again.

SIERRA SAL was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.

RACE 5: SKY CHANNEL H'CAP – 1100M

M. Bennett was advertised in the racebook as the rider of VICTORY SIREN when in fact it was D. Evans.

PAST TENSE jumped away awkwardly.

TIS HOPEFUL was obliged to race wide throughout.

Approaching the 400m VICTORY SIREN had to be steadied off the heels of UPROAR and shifted in and made contact with MORINGA'S HOBO and then shifted out taking TIS HOPEFUL wider on the track.

R. Morris reported that PAST TENSE hung out throughout the event.

On pulling up, A. Kennedy was dislodged from OLYMPIC SUNRISE. A. Kennedy was subsequently examined by the Club's ambulance officers and passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.

RACE 6: THE GLADES TAVERN YAMANTO H'CAP – 1100M

DEFEND knuckled on jumping and then shifted out taking MOISEEV out on to GOLD BOLERO. This resulted in M. Lister, the rider of DEFEND, losing the use of his near iron for some distance.

A swab sample was taken from 2nd placegetter LINCOLN ROAD.

RACE 7: SKY CHANNEL HOME SERVICE H'CAP – 1100M

Apprentice D. Gay was found guilty of a charge under LR. 51(1) in that he accepted a ride on MISSILE HUNTER when he had also accepted an engagement at Toowoomba, resulting in him being unable to fulfil both commitments. D. Gay was fined the sum of $100. C. Eaton was subsequently substituted as the rider of MISSILE HUNTER.

RAFSO jumped away awkwardly and shifted out and made contact with GRAZIN' FASHION.

Shortly after the start CROWN REGATTA commenced to buck and was as a result took no competitive part in the event. Stable foreperson R. Fitzgerald was advised that CROWN REGATTA must perform a satisfactory barrier trial before its next race start.

MISSILE HUNTER had a tendency to overrace in the early and middle stages.

M. Lister reported that ROCKET'S LAD hung out throughout the event.

D. Miller will be interviewed at a time and date to be fixed as to the reason why he left the course without permission and for failing to weigh in for 4th.

RACE 8: XXXX H'CAP – 1666M

HIGH POWER blundered badly on jumping away and lost ground.

Approaching the 500m IN COBARGO shifted out taking MILLSTRIKE out on to BANNING'S PAGE, which resulted in BANNING'S PAGE being forced wider on the track. BANNING'S PAGE then commenced to hang out rounding the home turn and raced wide for the remainder of the event. Trainer G. Hutchesson was advised that a warning was being placed on BANNING'S PAGE in relation to its racing manners.

Approaching the home turn MERTHYR ROAD shifted out under pressure resulting in HIGH POWER having to be steadied. A. Kennedy, the rider of MERTHYR ROAD, was reprimanded and reminded of his obligation when shifting ground.

M. Spriggs, the rider of IN SHANGHAI, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that after passing the 300m, while riding his mount along, he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of HENRY THE OCTOPUS, resulting in that horse having to be checked and in turn shifting in, causing MERTHYR ROAD to be checked and taken in. As a consequence of this, RUFF NIPPER had to be checked off the heels of MERTHYR ROAD. M. Spriggs was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at the expiration of a prior period of suspension (midnight on Saturday, 7 February) and expire at midnight on Saturday, 21 February 2004.

ALL WINNERS AND LINCOLN ROAD WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
