On return to scale a protest was lodged by M. Cahill, rider of the 3rd placegetter, STEPPING, against YUBI (L. Fyfe) being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the final loom.. After taking into consideration all evidence presented by the parties and from their own observations, stewards were of the opinion that the objection should be dismissed as the amount of ground lost in their opinion did not exOeed the beaten margin. Jockey Fyfe, rider of YUBI, was instructed to exercise more care after he allowed his mount to shift in over the final lOOm, and momentarily crowd STEPPING.
STEPPING (M. Cahill) jumped awkwardly.
On jumping ENZEEL (N. Jolly) was bumped by STAR OF THE GALAXY (M. Palmer) and was steadied.
Shortly after the start, OUTBOARD (A. Merrill) was crowded between EESSPEE (C. Whiteley) and GILDED TIARA (G. Palmer) and was steadied.
Approaching the BOOm., ENZEEL was momentarily crowded for room when racing to the inside of STEPPING.
Shortly after leaving the 500m., DUALINER (R. Pittman) was obliged to steady when racing to the inside of EESSPEE, which had a tendency to lay in despite the rider’s efforts over the final lOOm..

TENGU was declared a late scratching by the stewards at 1 p.m. after the filly was unable to be loaded into the barriers. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on TUNGU were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 8 cents in the dollar on the face value win and place bets. Trainer T. Hewitt was advised that he would be required to provide a barrier test certificate for TENGU prior to its next race start.
At the start, STELLINA BELLE (M. Cahill) was crowded between SUMMONS (S. Katsidis) and and MICK’S TITLE (M. Palmer) and was momentarily steadied.
FIRST TICKET (S. Galloway) was slow to begin.
Approaching the BOOm., RESIST TEMPTATION (C. Gilby) and MICK’S TITLE (M. Palmer) steadied from the heels of JAEGERS (T.Pannell).
Nearing the 700M., BOLINDA TELLINDA (C. Eaton) was obliged to ease when momentarily crowded by YOU ARE HOLY (B. McDonald), which after this point was obliged to race wide throughout.
Approaching the 500m., FIRST TICKET (S. Galloway) shifted out to obtain clear running and forced MICK’S TITLE wider on the track, bumping BOLINDA TELLINDA
Race 3: QRSE Warwick RSL Memorial Club 2yo Maiden H’cap - 1350m
1st - Daneland 2nd - Star To Behold 3rd - Beltinski 4th - Gargantuan
XAAR CRAZY (G. Palmer) was slow to begin.
STAR TO BEHOLD cast its near fore plate on jumping.
GUNZOFF (G. Lynch) jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
MOSTA HOUSE (M. Cahill) blundered at the start and became unbalanced, losing ground.
QUEEN BIRD (A. Pattillo) jumped out and bumped SPEED BUMP (T. Treichel), resulting in
QUEEN BIRD being momentarily steadied.
FALLGUY (C. Whiteley) raced greeny in the early stages.
Approaching the 50Dm., FALLGUY shifted out to obtain clear running and made contact with QUEEN BIRD, resulting in both runners racing wide around the home turn.
S. Galloway, rider of BELTINSKI, dropped his whip over the concluding stages.
Stewards questioned trainer R. Lipp over the improved performance of DANELAND. Trainer Lipp advised that a tongue-tie was placed on DANELAND today for the first time in a race, and since the horse’s start at Doomben on 23 April, DANELAND has improved and has had a tendency to settle more in its trackwork since the addition of that gear. Trainer Lipp was of the opinion that the tongue-tie had been the difference between its previous run and this run.

Race 4: Warwick RSL PunteYs Club Maiden H - 1520m
1st - High Court 2nd - Dayt’win 3rd - Social Worker 4th - Travemonde
Approaching the 900m., FLINDERS (A. Merrill), which was overracing, had a tendency to hang out, appeared to blunder for no apparent reason, became unbalanced and shifted out, hampering OLYMPIC SUNRISE (C. Spry), which was also overracing. This resulted in OLYMIC SUNRISE shifting out to avoid the unbalanced FLINDERS and in turn took HIGH COURT wider on the track.
Approaching 250m., VICKYVAL (N. Jolly) was obliged to ease when momentarily crowded between FLINDERS and AVALLAR (Z. Purton) when both runners shifted ground. Both A. Merrill, rider of FLINDERS, and Z. Purton, rider of AVALLAR, were advised to exercise more care in future.
Jockey C. Kearney reported that SOCIAL WORKER had blood in its mouth on pulling up. Subsequent to the event, a veterinary examination of the gelding revealed a cut to the inside of the horse’s mouth. Jockey Kearney also reported that SOCIAL WORKER had a tendency to lay in in the straight, proving difficult to ride out.
A post-race veterinary examination of FLINDERS revealed no abnormalities.
Race 5: Warwick RSL Manager Gerry Class 2 H’cap - 1520m
1st - Bit Of Magic 2nd - Coronation Star 3rd - Special Langfuhr 4th - Ivor’s Lass
Trainer Mr T. Hall was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for SPECIAL LANGFUHR by the prescribed time.
DECIBEEL was a late withdrawal at 8.43 a.m. on veterinary advice. Trainer A. Bailey was instructed to produce a veterinary certificate of soundness before starting the filly again.
CRAIGLEA TURF (C. Whiteley) jumped out when released, taking MARALUMIE (M. Palmer) out on to BIT OF MAGIC (M. Cahill). Shortly after this, the saddle on MARALUMIE shifted forward, placing apprentice Palmer at a considerable disadvantage throughout, resulting in MARALUMIE virtually taking no part in the race.
Shortly after the start, KEEP A DREAM ALIVE (Z. Purton) steadied from the heels of MIESQUE’S MAGIQUE (H. Hamada).
IVORS LASS (D. Tanti) raced wide during the early stages.
On straightening, BIT OF MAGIC (M. Cahill) shifted out to obtain clear running, taking
MIESQUE’S MAGIQUE (H. Hamada) wider on the track. From this point, MIESQUE’S
MAGIQUE had a tendency to lay in, proving difficult to ride out.

1st - Duke Sam 2nd - Lady Longuevil 3rd - Mazacar 4th - Rum Dum
Trainer B. Bowditch was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for MIKDAR by the prescribed time.
Trainer B. Baldwin was fined $50 for presenting RUM DUM to race without blinkers LADY LONGUEVILLE (M. Palmer) blundered and became unbalanced at the start.
BUDDY SEQUALO (A. Pattillo) jumped outwards when the gates were released and brushed MAZACAR.
Approaching the 900m., DUKE SAM (M. Cahill) began to overrace and became momentarily
awkward on the heels of LADY LONGUEVILLE. As a result when steadied LADY
LONGUEVILL got its head up and shifted out slightly. For some distance after this DUKE
SAM continued to overace.
Near the 90Dm., LUTENS (T.Pannell) momentarily rolled in, causing some crowding to FIRST ECLIPSE (S. Galloway), resulting in FIRST ECLIPSE having to be steadied, It was noted that from this point that FIRST ECLIPSE was obliged to race wide. T Pannell, rider of LUTENS, was instructed in similar circumstances in future to exercise more care and have the safety of his fellow riders at hand at all times.
Leaving the 600m., RUM DUM (Z. Purton) was obliged to steady from LADY LONGUEVILLE (M. Palmer) when momentarily crowded to its inside.
A post-race veterinary examination of FIRST ECLIPSE revealed the gelding to be showing the symptoms of the onset of a virus. A swab sample was taken from FIRST ECLIPSE.
Race 7: Yalumba Wines Class I H’cap - 1200m
1 - Fine Kas 2nd - Three Coins 3rd - Oriental Peace 4th - Encores And Roses
ANOTHER GLANCE was declared a late scratching at 9.10 a.m. due to an error by the Trainers’ Service Centre.
MUBBS (Y. Yamazaki) jumped out and bumped WRONG DANE (N. Day) at the start, resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced.
THREE COINS (C. Whitetey) jumped inwards when released.
COTOPAXI (M. Cant) was slow to begin.
SKY LYR (C. Spry) was obliged to race wide during he early and middle stages.
Rounding the home turn and for some distance in the straight, GANG (S. Galloway) was held up behind SKY LYRIC, which at this stage was under considerable pressure and losing ground.

Shortly after straightening, SKY LYRIC shifted out and bumped WRONG DANE (N. Day), which had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn.
Apprentice Y. Yarnazaki, rider of MUBBS, was admonished over his whip action near the 200m..
Following the event, G. Palmer (ORIENTAL PEACE) reported that rounding the home turn he had contacted the running rail with his right foot, sustaining a slight injury. Following an inspection of the rail in this vicinity, Course Curator Mr 0. Schultz was unable to detect anything abnormal with the rail.
A post-race veterinary examination of SKY LYRIC failed to reveal any abnormality.
Race 8: QRSE XXXX As Good As Gold Class 3 H’cap - 1350m
1st - Very Canny 2nd - Call Me Victor 3rd - Glorious Lady 4th - Casavana
The start was delayed due to YARROW (A. Pattillo) pulling its off-side fore plate prior to the start.
On jumping, CRAIGLEA WARRIOR (J. Sharp) blundered and became unbalanced. VERY CANNY (S. Galloway) jumped awkwardly, making contact with the barriers.
INITIAL STAR (M. Smith-Lester) and SAVANNAH ROAD (M. Palmer) jumped awkwardly, came together and bumped.
POWER EXPRESS (Z. Purton) jumped awkwardly, making contact with the barriers. GLORIOUS LADY (0. MeKeon) brushed the running rail at the BOOm..
COOPER PENNY (M. Cahill), MISS HOEY MOEY (0. Palmer) and SAVANNAH ROAD all raced wide throughout the middle stages.
GLORIOUS LADY (0. Mckeon) was held up momentarily rounding the home turn and then again for the majority of the straight and was only able to obtain clear running over the final stages.
S. Galloway, rider of VERY CANNY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that nearing the winning post he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CASAVANA (C. Whiteley), causing that filly to be checked and lose its rightful running. S. Galloway was severely reprimanded and instructed that in future he would be expected to show more control over his mounts over the concluding stages or his failure to do so may lead to mpre severe action being taken.
GYPSY MINX lost its off hind plate in running.
A post-race veterinary examination of MISS HOEY MOEY failed to reveal any abnormality.
