Trainer J. Judge was fined $400 for failing to withdraw ADVANTAGE PLUS from the Eagle Farm meeting on Monday, 13.6.04 prior to the scratching deadline. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account that another runner, which was an emergency, had been denied the opportunity to race.

Race 1: Eden's Crossing Ipswich Mile 1 MW Last Year H'cap - 1666m.
1st - Bohemian Dancer 2nd - Imperialism 3rd - Sammy Sequalo 4th - Just Cassidy

On return to scale a protest was lodged by G. Colless, rider of the 2nd placegetter, IMPERIALISM, against BOHEMIAN DANCER (M. Cahill), first past the post, alleging interference near the 400m.. Stewards found that IMPERIALISM was momentarily hampered near the 400m., however in considering the margin which separated both horses at the finish and the degree of interference involved, the protest was dismissed and the Judge's placings were confirmed.

IMPERIALISM had to be checked shortly after jumping away when tightened for room between SMART CHARIOT (A. Pattillo) and PERETTE (T. Treichel), which was taken in by ELENDIL (J. Byrne).

Approaching the 400m. IMPERIALISM was held up momentarily when disappointed for a run between JUST CASSIDY (N. Jolly) and BOHEMIAN DANCER (M. Cahill), which shifted out to improve.

Near the finish line, SAMMY SEQUALO (B. El-Issa) was inconvenienced when crowded by BOHEMIAN DANCER, which was inclined to shift in under pressure.

Following the disappointing performance of DOONAN DANCER, connections indicated that the horse would be spelled after the run today.

Race 2: Ray White Ipswich Dash Class 6 - 1100m.
1st - Gloucester Road 2nd - Countess Bathory 3rd - Crystal Lane 4th - Court Adjourned/Chalkboard

Jockey M. Cahill was fined $1000 for having in his possession a vest which did not meet Australian standards.

COUNTESS BATHORY (G. McKeon), which was a little slow to begin, was severely checked on jumping away when tightened for room between BRISBANE LION (J. Byrne) and SPECIALLY MADE (M. Cahill) when both horses shifted ground.

DREAM 'N' SCHEME, after jumping away awkwardly, was obliged to race wide throughout the race.

Near the 500m., CRYSTAL LANE (A. Pattillo) had to be steadied when it improved on to the heels of NASARLO (R. Pittman).

Approaching the 100m., BRISBANE LION (J. Byrne) was tightened for room between COURT ADOURNED and VORACIOUS (Y. Yamazaki), which shifted out to improve. Y. Yamazaki, rider of VORACIOUS, was cautioned and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Near the 800m., KISEKI STRIKER shifted out slightly, then blundered after striking the heels of ENGLOBO (G. Colless), which was inclined to lay in.

A post-race veterinary examination of KISEKI STRIKER failed to reveal any abnormality.

Race 4: Schweppes T.L. Cooney QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1200m.
1st - Hard To Catch 2nd - A Little Naughty 3rd - Testify 4th - Persuades

On return to scale, a protest was lodged by G. McKeon, rider of the 3rd placegetter, TESTIFY, against A LITTLE NAUGHTY (J. Byrne) being declared 2nd, alleging interference near the 250m. was dismissed. In dismissing the protest, stewards were of the opinion that whilst TESTIFY had suffered interference, there were contributing factors which did not warrant a reversal of the Judge's placings. At a subsequent inquiry into an incident near the 200m., it was established that TESTIFY and PERSUADES (R. Morris) were tightened between A LITTLE NAUGHTY, which shifted out slightly, and HARD TO CATCH (B. Stewart), which shifted in when not clear of PERSUADES, resulting in that horse being taken inwards. J. Byrne and B. Stewart were each reprimanded and advised to take greater measures to keep their mounts straight in future.

CAFFE FRANCAIS (Y. Yamazaki) was slow to begin.

CRYSTAL WIT raced 3 wide throughout.

A veterinary examination of ANY SUGGESTION following the event revealed the colt to be lame in the off front knee. Connections were advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required for ANY SUGGESTION prior to its next race start.

Approaching the 800m. as the pace steadied, FLUFFY COURAGE (T. Treichel) had to be steadied off the heels of CATREIGN (G. Colless). DANE SHAKIRA (D. Ballard), which was trailing FLUFFY COURAGE, had to be checked and became unbalanced in this incident.

Near the 200m., ROYAL MASK (T.Pannell) was disappointed for a run between FLUFFY COURAGE (T. Treichel) and CATREIGN (G. Colless).

LION SAFARI and GOLD CLASS (G. Colless) were forced to race wide throughout.

Race 7: XXXX Gold Ipswich Cup Group 3 - 2150m.
1st - Forest Jim 2nd - Motivate 3rd - Classic Karla 4th - Volksini

Trainer B. Guy was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for MOTIVATE by the prescribed time.

A veterinary examination of KAJEMA after arriving at the course revealed that there were no abnormalities with the horse.

M. Cahill reported that NATURAL BLITZ slipped near the 1600m. when making the turn out of the straight and felt that the horse seemed to lose confidence from that point onwards.

Near the 1200m., SAILOR'S LARK (R. Pittman) had to be steadied when improving to the inside of CLASSIC KARLA (Y. Yamazaki) where there was doubtful room and as a result FOREST JIM (A. Pattillo), which was racing to the inside in restricted room, had to be steadied.

Near the 600m., the tiring MAKE ME A MIRACLE shifted in and brushed MOTIVATE.

Approaching the home turn, FOREST JIM had to be steadied momentarily to avoid the heels of MOTIVATE (B. Stewart), which shifted out.

Near the 250m., VOLKSINI (B. El-Issa) shifted out to improve and made contact with the hind quarters of NATURAL BLITZ.

Approaching the finish line, VOLKSINI commenced to shift in away from NATURAL BLITZ and hampered SKY LOVE (J. Byrne), which when under pressure shifted in, tightening DESERT FLIGHT (N. Jolly).

RATHER GRAND (G. McKeon) was obliged to race wide throughout.

An inquiry was opened into N. Harris's riding tactics on ANNE CARINA today in having the horse race back in the field as opposed to the horse's previous start at Eagle Farm where after assuming the lead was allowed to run along. N. Harris explained from the wide draw today, he elected to go forward, however the mare could not muster sufficient pace in the early stages, and after travelling approximately 200m., he elected to take a trail rather than be trapped extremely wide rounding the first turn where he would have been obliged to race at least 5 wide on the outside of MAKE ME A MIRACLE. N. Harris added that after settling back in the field he was caught 3 wide trailing RATHER GRAND (G. McKeon). He added that when the pace eased, he intended to allow the horse to progress forward, however near the 1200m. the horse did not appear to be travelling well enough. Trainer's representative Mr D. Walsh stated that he felt that from the horse's wide barrier he did not think the horse would have the necessary pace to cross horses on the inside as at the horse's previous start it had drawn barrier 2 and did not have to work hard to gain the lead. The explanation was noted. A veterinary examination of ANNE CARINA failed to reveal any abnormality.

NATURAL BLITZ was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon who reported that at the time of examination no abnormalities could be found. Trainer D. Harrison stated that he was of the opinion that the horse may be looking for a spell.

A. Pattillo, rider of FOREST JIM, was fined $200 for flourishing his whip before the finish line. A. Pattillo was also reminded of his obligations not to remove his skull cap whilst mounted.

Race 8: QRSE Queensland Times Provincial Cup - 2150m.
1st - King Latarmiss 2nd - Wheel The Lead 3rd - Cut A Caper 4th - Bishop Bill

Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer J. Judge for the late declaration of rider for ADVANTAGE PLUS.

MOVE TO STRIKE (B. Stewart) jumped outwards at the start and made contact with LAMRETTA, which jumped away awkwardly.

WAITAWHERO GOLD (T. Treichel) was slow to begin.

KING LATARMISS (M. Cahill) jumped outwards at the start, taking KINGLINESS out on to ADVANTAGE PLUS.

MAIZCAY MAGIC blundered after leaving the 800m..

After rounding the first turn, ZEDSQUARE (R. Pittman) shifted out from behind the heels of the leader, bumping FAVONIUS (D. Ballard) out on to KAWENDE (N. Seymour), forcing MAIZCAY MAGIC to race extremely wide. MAIZCAY MAGIC was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the race before compounding over the latter stages.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, LAMBRETTA (G. McKeon) became unbalanced when racing in restricted room inside WHEEL THE LEAD (A. Pattillo).

Near the 2000m, CUT A CAPER (B. El-Issa) had to be steadied when placed in restricted room after improving on to the heels of KAWENDE (N. Seymour), and at the same time being momentarily tightened by MOVE TO STRIKE (B. Stewart), which was taken in by MAIZCAY MAGIC (J. Byrne) when that horse shifted in away from SANDY SHORE (G. Colless) when being restrained. J. Byrne, rider of MAIZCAY MAGIC, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

G. Colless reported that whilst he had to make some use of SANDY SHORE from its wide barrier today, the horse travelled well, however he was of the opinion that the horse may not have been able to run out the distance of today's race.
