SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
As. M. Cahill was suspended and R. Martin was ill, and riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Sky Channel 3yo Maiden H’cap – 800m
1st – Earlstoun Fair 2nd – Oscarleno 3rd – Godly 4th - Whispering
RUCHELLE (A. Erhart) jumped away awkwardly, and shortly after had to be steadied off the heels of MOLLY’S MEMORY, which was taken out by GODLY (K. Pope).
GODLY was inclined to lay out from the 600m until approaching the home turn.
Race 2: Ipswich City Council 3yo & Up Maiden Plate – 1500m
1st – Arrowin 2nd – Chatinn 3rd – Champagne Lady 4th – Whispering Ace
Correct weight was delayed to enable, D. Green, rider of the 2nd placegetter, CHATINN, to view the stewards’ video of the straight to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge a protest against the winner, ARROWIN. After viewing the film, D. Green advised he did not wish to proceed with the matter and correct weight was semaphored.
LANTERA (C. Bryen) began awkwardly.
WHISPERING ACE (J. Sharp) was slow to begin.
On jumping away, THIS ONE WON (L. Morrison) shifted out and bumped DIRECTORS CHOICE (K. Yoshida).
SPYBOY (S. Drake) overraced in the early stages.
At the 750m, CHATINN (D. Green) had to be steadied off the heels of LANTERA (C. Bryen), which was weakening.
At the 1000m, CONNAISSANCE (J. Holder) shifted in and bumped WHISPERING ACE.
Near the 600m, ARROWIN (M. Rodd) shifted out, forcing SPYBOY (S. Drake) wider on the track.
On the home turn, CHATINN shifted out, making contact with THIS ONE WON (L. Morrison).
Approaching the 350m, CHATINN, which was laying in, had to be steadied off the heels of CHAMPAGNE LADY (C. Eaton), which shifted out. C. Eaton, rider of CHAMPAGNE LADY, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
DIRECTORS CHOICE was caught wide for the majority of the event.
Race 3: WWW.Skychannel.Com.Au 2yo Maiden H’cap – 1100m
1st – Ima Joker 2nd – Miss Ghataas 3rd – Nark 4th – Base Thunder
BASE THUNDER (J. Holder) was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, SIGNAL (P. Hammersley) was tightened for room between LEGS UNDICI (L. Morrison) and IMA JOKER (S. Katsidis), which was taken out by COTTON FINGER (M. Rodd).
MANUSCAY (J. Hoopert) and SHUTTER (B. Pengelly) began awkwardly.
Approaching the 800m, RICH BLUE DANE (J. Taylor), which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of MISS GHATAAS (G. Palmer), which shifted out and made contact with COTTON FINGERS. RICH BLUE DANE then shifted in and made contact with the running rail.
SHUTTER was caught wide throughout the race.
Race 4: Ipswich Cup Day 17th June QTIS 2yo Maiden H’cap – 1100m
1st – Go Sequalo 2nd – Cocktail Supreme 3rd – Freesia 4th – Our Model
JIMMY JIM was a late scratching at 8 a.m. on veterinary advice.
MASTER STRONGHOLD (P. Wolfgram) was slow to begin.
RATINGS WINNER (Matthew Palmer) shifted out at the start, making contact with GO SEQUALO (R. McMahon).
Near the 700m, GO SEQUALO shifted out when steadied off the heels of RATINGS WINNER.
GO SEQUALO was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.
TELESTAH LA VISTAH (T. Muto) was caught wide for the majority of the event.
GUARA GROVE BEAST (P. Hammersley) lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 5: Recruitment Queensland 3yo & Up Maiden Plate – 1100m
1st – Arriva Dane 2nd – Bold Act 3rd – My Mandolin 4th – Weight’s Right
BECKINSALE was a late scratching at 9.32 a.m. on veterinary advice.
MORNING EXPRESS (C. Eaton) and BOLD ACT (B. Johnson) were slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, BUTCHER BAKER (P. Wolfgram) was tightened for room between ARCALEH (B. Pengelly) and DASHING SEQUALO (J. Sharp), which was taken out by WAZZRODIN (J. Holder).
Approaching the 800m, FAST END (D. Green) was crowded for room between MY MANDOLIN (J. Murphy) and MORNING EXPRESS, which shifted out.
BOLD ACT shifted in approaching the 500m and made contact with the running rail, then shifted out and bumped WEIGHT’S RIGHT (S. Drake).
WAZZRODIN was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.
Approaching the 200m, BUTCHER BAKER (P. Wolfgram) shifted out and bumped ARCAHLEH (B. Pengelly).
Nearing the 50m, BUTCHER BAKER, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, had to be steadied off the heels of DASHING SEQUALO and shifted out, making contact with JUST JEDDAH (M. Dorrington).
BALLY’S IMAGE (S. Galloway) raced 3 wide throughout.
A swab sample was taken from the 2nd placegetter, BOLD ACT.
Race 6: Schweppes Class 1 H’cap – 1666m
1st – Burgundy Prince 2nd – Great Emma 3rd – Innocent By Birth 4th – Coleyville Road
EASY’S GIRL was slow to begin.
GREAT EMMA (J. Sharp) shifted out at the start, making contact with THUNDER AND ICE (G. Colless).
Approaching the 1300m, MERDEX (B. Swanton), which was overracing, had to be checked off the heels of THUNDER AND ICE.
Leaving the 1200m, HAZLANDED (M. Rice), which was overracing, became awkward and shifted in, making contact with the running rail.
Near the 1000m, INNOCENT BY BIRTH (K. Pope), which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of MERDEX.
Near the 100m, COLEYVILLE ROAD (A. Erhart), when attempting to obtain clear running, shifted out and bumped INNOCENT BY BIRTH.
COLEYVILLE ROAD overraced at various stages throughout the race.
INSTAND REWARD (M. Radecker) raced wide throughout.
Stewards questioned trainer B. Guy and jockey S. Katsidis regarding the tactics adopted on BURGUNDY PRINCE today in comparison with previous tactics adopted on the colt. Mr Guy explained that the instructions to S. Katsidis were to settle in a forward position. S. Katsidis stated that BURGUNDY PRINCE was wearing blinkers for the first time today and was able to relax in the early stages. Mr Guy also added that the colt may have appreciated the drop in class from Class 3 to Class 1 and extra distance of today’s event as compared to its previous start. Stewards accepted the explanation.
Race 7: Queensland Times Class 3 H’cap – 1500m
1st – Chance Bay 2nd – Bee Dub 3rd – Fourwinners 4th – Archer’s Pride
LINE BY LINE was a late scratching at 9.32 a.m. on veterinary advice.
As P. Hammersley was unable to make the weight, K. Forrester was substituted as the rider of KENNEDIA. At a subsequent inquiry, P. Hammersley was fined the sum of $300.
FOURWINNERS, which was kicked behind the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
KEEP A DREAM ALIVE (B. Pengelly) was tightened for room at the start between FOURWINNERS (M. Rodd) and BEE DUB (S. Apthorpe), which shifted out.
Leaving the 1200m, CHANCE BAY (L. Morrison) shifted out, forcing ESSEX GIRL (J. Sharp) wider on the track.
ESSEX GIRL had to be steadied off the heels of KEEP A DREAM ALIVE at the 1200m.
FOURWINNERS (M. Rodd) was inclined to lay in in the straight. At this stage, M. Rodd was accidentally struck on the arm on a number of occasions by the whip of S. Apthorpe, rider of BEE DUB.
BISCARANI (Matthew Palmer) raced wide throughout.
Stewards questioned M. Rice, rider of ARCHER’S PRIDE, regarding riding tactics in today’s race as compared with previous tactics adopted on the horse. M. Rice explained that his instructions were to take up a forward position on the gelding, however when L. Morrison elected to take a trail on CHANCE BAY at the 1200m, ARCHER’S PRIDE was left in the leading position. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 8: City Pacific Finance Class 6 H’cap – 1350m
1st – Skyleda 2nd – Sun Spinner 3rd – Public Eye 4th – You Lion Eyes
Stewards questioned the stable representative for J. McCarter, trainer of SKYLEDA, regarding the late change of rider on that horse from M. Cahill to S. Galloway. After taking evidence initial evidence, the inquiry was adjourned to enable stewards to interview jockey M. Cahill.
Trainer T. Hall was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for MOVE TO STRIKE by the prescribed time..
THE BIG EASY (J. Holder) and DIAGON DUCHESS (J. Sharp) were slow to begin.
PUBLIC EYE (S. Drake) and IN EXTREMIS (A. Pattillo) were caught wide in the early and middle stages.
Leaving the 200m, LITTLE DARLING (G. Colless) had to be steadied off the heels of THE BIG EASY and shifted out, making contact with DIAGON DUCHESS (J. Sharp).
THE BIG EASY was held up for clear running over the final 100m of the race.
DIAGON DUCHESS shifted in under pressure near the 100m, crowding LITTLE DARLING (G. Colless).
Race 9: Woodstock Bourbon Class 2 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Whatatune 2nd – Shakeeba Gaze 3rd – Waterford Glory 4th - Jachaze
At the start, KEL PRICE (K. Forrester) had to be steadied off the heels of MI CIELO (J. Bowditch), which shifted in.
WATERFORD GLORY (C. Bryen) was slow to begin.
G. Colless, rider of JACHAZE, was issued with a charge of careless riding, in that at the 700m, he allowed his mount to shift outwards, resulting in KEL PRICE being checked. After considering the matter, the charge was not sustained when stewards afforded jockey G. Colless the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was careless in allowing JACHAZE to shift out abruptly off the heels of JULIO REX, which was yielding ground.
At the 550m, KEL PRICE again had to be checked when tightened for room between WESTGATE and JULIO REX, which was taken out by WATERFORD GLORY, which was overracing and shifted out off the heels of A YEN TO WIN (P. Edwards). POLARIS, which was following, also had to be steadied.
WATERFORD GLORY shifted ground under pressure in the straight.
WESTGATE (P. Hammersley) raced wide throughout.
POLARIS, which yielded ground in the run to the finish, was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon with no abnormalities detected.
The club’s veterinary surgeon also reported that A YEN TO WIN was found to have suffered a small laceration to its lateral near fore canon during running.
Race 10: Woodstock Bourbon Class 2 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Two Dancers 2nd – Nevada Inn 3rd – Conquistar Amor 4th – Little Stranger
SHE’S ALL AT SEA (S. Drake) jumped away awkwardly.
TWO DANCERS (M. Rodd) shifted out at the start, making contact with DRESS CODE (J. Sharp). A short distance later, EXCLUSIVE BID (Matthew Palmer), which began awkwardly, shifted in, making contact with NEVADA INN (A. Pattillo).
Approaching the 800m, TAKING CHARGE (M. Carson), which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of CONQUISTAR AMOR (C. Eaton). SHE’S ALL AT SEA and RUBY’S PARTY (J. Taylor), which were following, also had to be steadied as a consequence.
Nearing the 650m, TWO DANCERS (M. Rodd) shifted out, making contact with LITTLE STRANGER (R. McMahon), forcing that runner wider on the track.
TWO DANCERS again shifted out and made contact with LITTLE STRANGER at the 400m.
DRESS CODE (J. Sharp) was disappointed for a run at the 200m between SHE’S ALL AT SEA (S. Drake) and SWANNIES ME MATE (D. Peisley) and then was held up until approaching the 50m.
LITTLE STRANGER (R. McMahon) was caught 3 wide throughout.
A swab sample was taken from the 2nd placegetter, NEVADA INN.
