As J. Byrne was indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Ipswichwide Realty Maiden H’cap – 1000m
1st – Regal Mountain 2nd – Spin Boy 3rd – Shh 4th – All For Rome
Trainer B. Azel was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for MARY’S MAGIQUE by the prescribed time.
REGAL MOUNTAIN was presented with incorrect plating. After receiving farrier attention, stewards permitted the horse to race without hind shoes. Trainer T. Perkins was fined the sum of $500. AR141A
MARY’S MAGIQUE (J. Sharp) shifted out at the start and made contact with ANGOLA QUEEN (M. Carson).
Rounding the home turn, ALL FOR ROME (K. Forrester) had to be steadied off the heels of ANGOLA QUEEN, which shifted in.
Race 2: Sky Channel Live Racing Class 2 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Base Dancer 2nd – Buckbeak 3rd – Good Luck 4th – Taking Charge
SECRET SILVER (S. Drake) and VIBRANT (K. Forrester) began awkwardly.
VIBRANT raced ungenerously in the early stages.
Race 3: Peppers Hidden Vale Luxury Retreat QTIS 2yo Maiden H’cap – 1100m
1st – Falco Star 2nd – Chilli Magic 3rd – Tenterfield 4th – Hodges Street
As G. Colless was found to be overweight, K. Forrester was substituted as the rider of CHILLI MAGIC. G. Colless was fined $100.
KAHLUA KISS (S. Drake) and WHISKEY SHOT (J. Bowditch) were slow to begin.
NATURAL ELLE (C. Kearney) began awkwardly.
RAPID JACKO (P. Hammersley) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with TENTERFIELD (S. Katsidis).
Approaching the 700m, BOOGEEMAC (I. French) raced in restricted room to the inside of TENTERFIELD.
Nearing the 650m, BOOGEEMAC raced up on to the heels of BACK WHEELS (J. Sharp), which shifted in whilst racing greenly.
Leaving the 300m, TENTERFIELD was momentarily held up for clear running.
CHILLI MAGIC (K. Forrester) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 4: J.W. Berry & Co Food Services Class 4 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Seismic Lady 2nd – Young Lion 3rd – Bang Clang Alang 4th - Jokingly
YOUNG LION (S. Seamer) blundered on jumping away and shortly after was tightened for room between DUSTWIND (L. Fyfe) and BANG CLANG ALANG (J. Sharp), which shifted out.
DUSTWIND (L. Fyfe) commenced to buck shortly after the start, dislodging L. Fyfe. Trainer T. Hutcheson was advised that DUSTWIND must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start. YOUNG LION (S. Seamer), which was following, had to be steadied and alter course. YOUNG LION then raced wide for the majority of the event.
SEISMIC LADY (B. Melham) was inclined to lay out over the concluding stages.
WHATATUNE (W. Pearson) lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 5: Blue Ribbon Motors Class 1 H’cap – 800m .
1st – Gay Rendition 2nd – Noble Tone 3rd – Softail 4th – Margot’s Image
Trainer T. Wheeler was fined the sum of $100 for failing to declare a rider for PING MING by the prescribed time.
RETAINER (R. Plumb) blundered badly on jumping away.
MAJOR YEATS (J. Sharp) lost its footing on jumping away, losing considerable ground.
SOFTAIL (M. Phillips) and GAY RENDITION (P. Hammersley) jumped away awkwardly.
Leaving the 300m, RETAINER (R. Plumb) shifted out, making contact with DISCO EPIC (B. Melham).
Approaching the 50m, MARGOT’S IMAGE (J. Taylor), when attempting a narrow run to the outside of SOFTAIL, shifted out, making contact with FLOWINGCOMET (R. Goltz), which was inclined to lay in.
DISCO EPIC (B. Melham) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of MAJOR YEATS revealed the horse to have sustained a laceration to off foreleg.
Race 6: Queensland Times Our Local News 3yo & Up Maiden Plate – 1350m
1st – Sozzani 2nd – Ruffs 3rd – Hundred Percent 4th – Northern Man
ARENA DIOR (S. Katsidis) blundered on jumping away.
BEAU KEA (W. Pearson) and WEIGHT’S RIGHT (J. Sharp) jumped away awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, GOING FINE (K. Wharton) was tightened for room between HUNDRED PERCENT (G. Colless) and GUARA GROVE BEAST (P. Hammersley), which shifted in.
Approaching the 800m, SAGGIO (K. Forrester) had to be steadied off the heels of NORTHERN MAN (S. Richardson), which shifted in.
RUFFS (C. Eaton) laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
Race 7: Centrepoint Alliance Finance Class 1 H’cap – 1350m
1st – Castle Howard 2nd – Tie Me Up 3rd – Stellabella 4th – One Small Step
Prior to correct weight, stewards considered an application from jockey S. Katsidis to declare NIPPY a non runner in that he was denied a fair start. Stewards found that due to a malfunction, NIPPY’S barrier gates did not open when the start was effected, resulting in NIPPY losing considerable ground. NIPPY subsequently broke through the barriers and blundered, losing further ground. Acting under AR134A, stewards declared NIPPY a non runner, and ordered all monies invested on the mare to be refunded, with deductions of 13 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.
On jumping away, CASTLE HOWARD (G. Colless) was struck by a barrier gate. CASTLE HOWARD then shifted in, making contact with SYNDICATE ROAD (S. Drake).
MUGWUMP (J. Sharp) was slow to begin.
PRAYER CHAMBER (K. Wharton) and KOMO LAD (D. Peisley) were both tightened for room between ONE SMALL STEP (K. Banks) and TIE ME UP (G. Geran), which shifted in.
TIE ME UP (G. Geran) and KOMO LAD overraced in the early stages.
Leaving the 300m, FLINDERS POPPY (R. Goltz) shifted out, making contact with NIPPY.
ENTER MY MIND (M. Phillips) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of BAG OF GOLD revealed the mare to have bled during the event. Trainer B. Abbey was advised that BAG OF GOLD would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
Race 8: XXXX As Good As Gold Class 3 Plate – 1666m
1st – Cazza’a Lottery 2nd – Englobo 3rd – Hot Gospel 4th – Sir Lara
Jockey J. Sharp was examined by the club’s doctor after riding in race 7 and stood down from his engagement on CAZZA’S LOTTERY. G. Geran was substituted as the rider of that gelding.
CAZZA’A LOTTERY (G. Geran) and ENGLOBO (K. Wharton) came together on jumping away.
INNOCENT BY BIRTH (S. Wright) jumped away awkwardly.
KEEP A DREAM ALIVE (W. Pearson) made the 1500-metre crossing awkwardly.
J. Bowditch, rider of HOT GOSPEL, dropped his whip near the 100m.
Approaching the 50m, ENGLOBO shifted out, making contact with HOT GOSPEL (J. Bowditch).
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KEEP A DREAM ALIVE, W. Pearson stated that the gelding travelled fairly until the 800m, however when called upon for an effort, failed to respond to his riding. Trainer M. Price was also at a loss to explain the poor effort, and undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality that may come to his notice which may have had an effect on the performance. A post race veterinary examination of KEEP A DREAM ALIVE failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
