SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
As S. Shield was indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Channel 7 Class 3 Plate – 2150m
1st – Incendio 2nd – Twinkling Star 3rd – Don’t Back Down 4th – Semi Final
SEMI FINAL (B. Evans) began awkwardly.
TWINKLING STAR (K. Yoshida) was slow to begin.
Near the 2000m, SCENT OF LOVE (C. Whiteley) shifted out and made contact with SEMI FINAL (B. Evans), which also shifted out, making contact with NATIONAL SOLDIER (B. El-Issa). In this incident, SEMI FINAL was buffeted and became unbalanced for several strides.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SEMI FINAL got its head up and had to be eased from the heels of NATIONAL SOLDIER when the pace slowed. SEMI FINAL then raced wide for the remainder of the race.
NATIONAL SOLDIER raced wide until passing the 1200m.
Passing the 1100m, CINQUACASINO (J. Piper) improved to the inside of the heels of NATIONAL SOLDIER and was eased. SCENT OF LOVE, which was following, had to be steadied.
TWINKLING STAR (K. Yoshida) overraced in the early stages and raced wide from the 800m.
Rounding the home turn, INCENDIO (L. Cassidy) improved on to the heels of SEMI FINAL (B. Evans) and had to be checked.
A post race veterinary examination of SCENT OF LOVE revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore leg. Connections of SCENT OF LOVE were advised that a veterinary clearance will be required for SCENT OF LOVE prior to its next race start.
Race 2: Pat Harrison 2yo QTIS Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Femina Fashion 2nd – Chilli Mud Crab 3rd – Irish Dream 4th – Been Naughty
As J. Bowdtich was delayed due to transport difficulties, T. Treichel was substituted as the rider of ELLA DANIELA.
TROMBONE ALLEY, which proved difficult to load and then broke through the barriers and galloped for some distance, was withdrawn by stewards on veterinary advice at 12.49 pm. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on TROMBONE ALLEY were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer Mr P. Duff was advised that TROMBONE ALLEY must trial to the stewards satisfaction prior to its next race start.
HAVTA DO (D. Coleman) began awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with POWERFUL SPHERE (D. Griffin).
WHISKY RIVER (M. Palmer) and MERRY MONI (L. Cassidy) were slow to begin.
Approaching the 1000m, HAVTA DO commenced to overrace for a short distance.
Near the 800m, IRISH DREAM (B. Stewart) improved up on to the heels of HAVTA DO and had to be steaded. IRISH DREAM then overraced for some distance thereafter.
Leaving the 500m, IRISH DREAM (B. Stewart) became awkward when racing to the inside of the heels of HAVTA DO.
Rounding the home turn, BEEN NAUGHTY (B. Evans) was unable to gain clear running.
After passing the 400m, RUN JAKE RUN (S. Drake) was held up on the heels of ELLA DANIELA (T. Treichel), which began to weaken at that point.
Leaving the 200m, BEEN NAUGHTY was disappointed for a run to the inside of ELLA DANIELA (T. Treichel) and had to be steadied.
Stewards questioned jockey T. Treichel regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of ELLA DANIELA. T. Treichel stated that whilst the horse had worked hard early, it travelled well in the middle section of the race, however when placed under pressure in the straight, ELLA DANIELA failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion proved disappointing. Stewards noted the explanation.
BEEN NAUGHTY returned to scale with blood in its mouth as a result of a small laceration.
Race 3: Les Frendon 2yo QTIS Maiden Plate Div 2 – 1200m
1st – Catallion 2nd – Huckleberry Dane 3rd – Crystal Honour 4th – Rainy Knight
APRIL FOLLY was declared a late scratching at 12.18 pm on veterinary advice. Trainer G. Livermore was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for the filly prior to its next race start.
SUMMER MISS (A. Pattillo) began awkwardly, losing ground.
FANTASTIC FOUR (C. Whiteley) and TOLAWHA’S PRIDE (T. Pannell) made contact on jumping away.
Shortly after the start, COUSINE ISLAND (Matthew Palmer) shifted in and made contact with RAINY KNIGHT (C. Dixon).
Approaching the 1000m, CARRY ME BABY (B. Evans) commenced to overrace for a short distance. CARRY ME BABY then commenced to hang out, forcing WARREGO (M. Radecker) wider on the track. Trainer B. Baldwin was advised that a warning was being placed on CARRY ME BABY as a result of its racing manners.
Nearing the 800m, FANTASTIC FOUR (C. Whiteley) was placed in restricted room between SUMMER MISS (A. Pattillo) and CARRY ME BABY, which shifted in marginally.
WARREGO raced wide throughout.
Race 4: Keith Johnson 3yo & Up F&M Maiden H’cap – 1350m
1st – Quingilly 2nd – Ceethesunrise 3rd – Jugerston 4th – Flower Chariot
STALWART TWIST, which was kicked behind the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
QUINGILLY (T. Treichel) and URASED A STAR (D. Coleman) made contact on jumping away.
ECCLESIA (J. Murphy) began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping ZULU QUEEN.
ITALIAN EMPRESS (R. Wiggins) was tightened for room at the start between JUGERSTON (G. Geran) and ARHAY (D. Green), which shifted out.
THE POCKET ROCKET (A. Erhart) began awkwardly.
COGITATE BABY (K. Purdy), which began awkwardly, shifted out, making contact with TICKLE ME QUICK (M. Hellyer).
Approaching the 1000m, ECCLESIA (J. Murphy) commenced to overrace, and leaving the 900m, improved on to the heels of CEETHESUNRISE (A. Pattillo) and had to be steadied.
Approaching the 400m, TICKLE ME QUICK had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room to the inside of LILLY LILO (B. Stewart), which shifted in and away from QUALITY APPEAL (M. Radecker).
ARHAY (D. Green) commenced to hang out leaving the 400m and did so until straightening.
Leaving the 200m, CEETHESUNRISE had a tendency to lay in under pressure.
At the same stage, ZULU QUEEN commenced to hang in under pressure.
Near the 150m, SHREWD HOSTESS (D. Craven) shifted out, making contact with JUGERSTON.
ZULU QUEEN and ARHAY (D. Green) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of STALWART TWIST failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: Sonny Germany 3yo & Up CG&E Maiden H’cap – 1350m
1st – A Little Danger 2nd – Give It To Me 3rd – Dive Bomber 4th – All Lined Up
ALL LINED UP (G. Geran) jumped away awkwardly, losing ground.
RAGING RASTUS (S. Bogenhuber) was tightened for room at the start between A LITTLE DANGER (L. Cassidy) and ORHTAC (M. Hellyer), both of which shifted ground.
THE SNICSTER (J. Bowditch) jumped away awkwardly, making contact with the starting gate.
RED OR BLACK (R. Goltz) and MR DAYBREAK (T. Treichel) made contact shortly after the start.
SMUGGLER’S INN (N. Yamada) raced wide in the early stages.
ALL LINED UP (G. Geran) was held up for clear running from shortly after straightening until leaving the 300m.
Approaching the 200m, OUR GOLD MINTO (S. Apthorpe) improved into a run where there was doubtful room. At the same stage, SMUGGLER’S INN (N. Yamada) shifted in under pressure, momentarily tightened the running of OUR GOLD MINTO, resulting in that runner being taken across the heels of THE SNICSTER and having to be further steadied. N. Yamada, rider of SMUGGLER’S IN, was severely reprimanded and advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts when they show a tendency to shift ground.
OCEAN OUTLAW (N. Evans) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.
A LITTLE DANGER raced wide for the majority of the event.
A post race veterinary examination of RED OF BLACK failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
DIVE BOMBER lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 6: Jessica Canada Maiden Plate – 800m
1st – Inpenetrable 2nd - Go Your Own Way 3rd – Grace The Wind 4th – Peguny Red
Due to traffic delays, M. Speers was delayed and was replaced by C. Dixon as the rider of MAIDEN IGLESIA.
On return to scale, the connections of OUR LEXAS LAD made application for the horse to be declared a non runner on the basis that the gelding was denied a fair start. After taking evidence from jockey Scriven, the club’s starter, and viewing the patrol film, stewards were of the opinion that OUR LEXAS LAD’S barrier gates failed to open as the start was effected resulting in the horse having to break through the gates, placing that gelding at a significant disadvantage. Stewards deemed that the horse had been denied a fair start and was subsequently declared a non runner. All monies on OUR LEXAS LAD were ordered to be refunded, with deduction of 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets.
GO YOUR OWN WAY (S. Bogenhuber) began awkwardly and lost ground.
MAIDEN IGLESIA (C. Dixon) and NO KOBE NO (D. Coleman) were slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, PRUSSIAN NECKLACE (B. Stewart) attempted to buck for a short distance. Trainer W. King was advised that the mare would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
Approaching the 600m, GRACE THE WIND (T. Pannell) had to be steadied when racing between PEGUNNY RED (D. Griffin) and MAIZVILLE (W. Clasohm) when both horses shifted ground.
GO YOUR OWN WAY commenced to shift out under pressure leaving the 200m, and a short distance later when being struck with the whip shifted out abruptly, resulting in its rider having to stop riding and straighten.
Race 7: Darryl Bender Class 1 H’cap – 800m
1st – Navillus Qualo 2nd – Mary’s Image 3rd – Eagle Jester 4th - Arhondas
On return to scale a protest was lodged by A. Best, rider of the 5th placegetter, ACTIONS, against EAGLE JESTER being declared 3rd, alleging interference near the 500m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned, stewards were of the view that ACTIONS had sustained interference at the 500m as a result of MARY’S MAGIQUE being taken in by EAGLE JESTER, which had a tendency to hang in at that point. Stewards could not be satisfied that the ground lost in this incident warranted a reversal of placings, and subsequently declared correct weight on semaphored numbers. At a subsequent inquiry, stewards could not attribute blame for the incident to any one rider, however advised the connections of EAGLE JESTER that a warning was being placed on the gelding’s racing manners. COVET GOLD and EASY SILENCE, which were following, were both inconvenienced in this incident.
MISTER GAMMA (N. Yamada) and PETALAN (C. Dixon) were slow to begin.
BIS VINCERE (J. Murphy) began awkwardly.
YOUCANTSEEME (C. Reith) knuckled on jumping away, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced and the gelding shifted in, making contact with WIRELESS (K. Forrester).
EAGLE JESTER had a tendency to lay in under pressure from the 200m until the winning post.
PETALAN (C. Dixon) and BARBINTARY EYE (W. Clasohm) raced wide throughout.
Race 8: Ipswich Festival Cup Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Monashee Warrior 2nd – Kisani 3rd – Conchenka 4th – Dorado Beach
Trainer A. Willick was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for LUCKY KENTUCKY by the prescribed time.
Trainer N. Hilton was also was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for CRAIGLEA RELIC by the prescribed time.
LIVE AND LOUD (M. Speers) and DOUBLE RISE (K. Banks) were both slow to begin.
LIGHTWAY (D. Griffin) shifted out and made contact with OFFSHORE TRADER (L. Cassidy) at the start.
Near the 900m, CONCHENKA (W. Clasohm), which commenced to overrace, had to be steadied from the heels of EAGLE JESTER.
Approaching the 700m, LIGHTWAY (D. Griffin), which commenced to overrace, was forced wider on the track by LIVE AND LOUD (M. Speers) and in doing so had to be steadied from the heels of OFFSHORE TRADE (L. Cassidy) and shifted out. DORADO BEACH (J. Bowditch), which was following, had to be steadied from the heels of LIGHTWAY (D. Griffin).
Approaching the 600m, TOMIRUF (L. Rolls) improved onto the heels of HOOTSON (K. Yoshida) and had to be steadied.
Apprentice M. Speers, rider of LIVE AND LOUD, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 500m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CRAIGLEA RELIC (B. Evans) , resulting in that runner having to be checked and lose its rightful running. M. Speers was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 26 April and to expire at midnight, 6 May 2009.
Near the 300m, CONCHENKA shifted marginally out under pressure, resulting in OFFSHORE TRADER shifting outwards. HOOTSON, which was following, shifted out abruptly and in doing so inconvenienced LIGHTWAY.
OFFSHORE TRADER, KISANI (T. Treichel) and DOUBLE RISE raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of OFFSHORE TRADER revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Connections were advised that OFFSHORE TRADER will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
Race 9: Warwick RSL Memorial Club Class 2 H’cap – 1350m
1st – Alioop 2nd – Qwerty 3rd – Secret Request 4th – Channel Crossing
KAYCEE’S BID (S. Bogenhuber) was tightened for room at the start between REGAL REASON (J. Murphy) and FACEBOOK (D. Craven), both of which shifted ground.
CHANNEL CROSSING was tightened for room at the start between ESQUIVAR (A. Spinks) and DANGER LINE (S. Apthorpe), when both horses shifted ground.
BEAUTIFUL MOON (M. Palmer) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with LOADED TYCOON (K. Purdy).
Near the 800m, KAYCEE’S BID improved onto the heels of FACEBOOK and was steadied.
LOADED TYCOON and SECRET REQUEST raced wide from the 600m.
BEAUTIFUL MOON and ALIOOP (L. Cassidy) bumped near the 300m.
ALIOOP had a tendency to shift in under pressure and near the 200m and made contact with MISTER MAVERICK (K. Yoshida).
SWORDS (S. Scriven) and BEAUTIFUL MOON raced wide for the majority of the event.
A post race veterinary examination of SWORDS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
