SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
From SCTC, 17.7.09
Trainer G. Kirkup advised stewards that subsequent to the poor performance of BILLY, an endoscopic examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting an inflamed airway due to an infection. G. Kirkup added that BILLY would be treated for the condition and then continued on with its racing program. Stewards advised G. Kirkup that a veterinary clearance would be required before BILLY would be permitted to race again.
Trainer T. Bailey advised stewards that he was unable to explain the poor performance of FEHER ARANY. He stated he agreed with T. Treichel’s assessment that the filly may not have handled the cushion track. T. Bailey added that FEHER ARANY had done well subsequent to the event and that he intended to place the horse on a grass surface for its next start.
Race 1: Crime Stoppers QTIS 2yo Maiden H'cap – 1020m
1st – Red Vinnie 2nd – Lonesome Day 3rd – Woongarra 4th – Star Forward
Due to the late arrival of the ambulance, all runners, which had been parading for race 1, were sent back to their stalls. The first race was delayed until 12 noon, with race 2 rescheduled back to 12.28, race 3 to 12.58. All remaining races were then put back one race starting time, and with the last race scheduled to start at 4.58 pm.
As K. Yoshida was delayed due to transport difficulties, D. Barron was substituted as the rider of TOPPING.
TOPPING (D. Barron) and MISS TSUI (T. Pannell) were slow to begin.
FEMMELEFEU (M. Hellyer) jumped inwards at the start, brushing RED VINNIE (S. Scriven).
WOONGARRA (G. Colless) was cramped for room shortly after the start between SEQRETARY (L. Rolls) and LONESOME DAY (P. Wolfgram), which jumped inwards. As a result, LONESOME DAY became unbalanced and raced ungenerously for a short distance. The racing manners of LONESOME DAY were drawn to the attention of trainer P. Nolan.
TOPPING and FEMMELEFEU both raced wide for the entire race.
Race 2: Crime Stoppers Ipswich QTIS 2yo Maiden H'cap – 1020m
1st – Pacific Express 2nd – Aquila Brave 3rd – Military Flyer 4th - Sistagirl
Trainer P. Dawson was fined $100 for failing to declare M. Speers as the rider of AQUILA BRAVE by the prescribed time.
COSANNCO (B. Thomson) jumped away awkwardly and missed the start.
STRIBLING (S. Apthorpe) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, brushing ZAHA’S GEM (B. Pengelly).
A short distance after the start, MARAHA STAR (M. Hellyer) shifted out and bumped AQUILA BRAVE (M. Speers). AQUILA BRAVE then was inclined to race ungenerously, and near the 800m had to be steadied when tightened for room between MARAHA STAR (M. Hellyer) and MILITARY FLYER (S. Katsidis), which shifted in momentarily.
Leaving the 800m, MARAHA STAR (M. Hellyer) shifted out and away from PACIFIC EXPRESS (K. Banks), forcing AQUILA BRAVE to be steadied from the heels of MILITARY FLYER and shifted out, forcing DIVA DANCE wider on the track.
Near the 600m, SISTAGIRL (A. Pattillo) had to be steadied after improving on to the heels of PACIFIC EXPRESS (K. Banks).
COSANNCO (B. Thomson) hung out rounding the home turn, forcing ZAHA’S GEM (B. Pengelly) wider on the track.
Race 3: Home HQ Ipswich QTIS 2yo Maiden H'cap – 1020m
1st – Purr Of Glory 2nd – Mini Magic 3rd – Pseudo Echo 4th - Listen
As M. Hellyer was dually engaged on TELLTALE HEART and LIFEREEL, M. Speers was substituted as the rider of TELLTALE HEART. Trainer P. Duff, master of M. Speers, was fined $100 for notifying M. Hellyer as the rider of TELLTALE HEART when he had already been engaged for a ride in this race.
PSEUDO ECHO (C. Reith) was slow to begin.
MINI MAGIC (E. Wilson) jumped away awkwardly.
LISTEN SON (S. Bogenhuber) was tightened for room at the start between TELLTALE HEART (M. Speers) and SURETOSCORE (G. Colless), which jumped outwards, resulting in LISTEN SON losing ground.
LADY ADAMANT (K. Banks) jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 800m, WASTED LADY (C. Eaton) became unbalanced and lost ground when the horse was reluctant to hold its position inside PSEUDO ECHO (C. Reith).
MINI MAGIC (E. Wilson) commenced to hang out leaving the 600m and rounding the home turn made contact with PURR OF GLORY (J. Byrne) on several occasions, forcing PURR OF GLORY wider and resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced on straightening as a result of both horses making heavy contact. Trainer M. Kropp indicated that MINI MAGIC would now be spelled and undertook to trial the horse before it races again.
LADY ADAMANT raced greenly throughout the race.
SURETOSCORE (G. Colless) hung out for the majority of the event.
Race 4: Springfield Land Corporation F&M Maiden H'cap – 1100m
1st – Cross Town Traffic 2nd – Chanfal 3rd – Falvelisa 4th – Cubby House
GRAND DESIRE (J. Wood) and ESENCIA (J. Brown) were slow to begin.
BABY ROCK (M. Hellyer) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with YOOGALI CLUB (K. Banks).
Near the 800m, ESENCIA (J. Brown) appeared to clip the heels of MAYAMAC (S. Katsidis) and blunder. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that MAYAMAC had shifted in when not fully clear, and J. Wood, rider of GRAND DESIRE, which was racing to the inside, hung out, which resulted in ESENCIA being taken out on to the heels of MAYAMAC. GRAND DESIRE continued to hang out and near the 600m had to be steadied off the heels of MAYAMAC. MAYAMAC continued to hang out and near the 400m had to be eased to avoid the heels of ESENCIA.
Passing the 600m, FALVELISA (M. Wood) improved on to the heels of ON THE RANTAN (G. Colless) and had to be eased.
Race 5: Riverlink CG&E Maiden H'cap – 1100m
1st – Kingcup 2nd – Sequalo Revenge 3rd – Canyon Road 4th - Seethrogh
Stewards ordered the late withdrawal of PAINTERS GOLD at 10.40 am. Trainer M. Karan was subsequently fined $400 for failing to scratch that gelding by the prescribed time (AR114).
As N. Seymour failed to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement on LITTLE BEAUTY, S. Katsidis was substituted as the rider of that horse. N. Seymour was fined $100.
LITTLE BEAUTY, which was unable to be loaded into the barriers, was declared a late scratching at 2.04 pm by order of the stewards. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on LITTLE BEAUTY were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer R. Rowley was advised that he must provide a further barrier certificate for LITTLE BEAUTY prior to its next race start.
SIR WILLIAM (S. Apthorpe) was buffeted on jumping away between CANYON ROAD (J. Byrne), which shifted out, and SEQUALO REVENGE (B. Stewart), which shifted in.
NITE ‘N’ SHINE (A. Pattillo) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with NO BETTER SEAT (P. Wolfgram), which jumped away awkwardly.
BULLRUN (D. Craven) got its head up and was inclined to overrace rounding the first turn.
Near the 800m, SEQUALO REVENGE (B. Stewart) had to be steadied off the heels of SEETHROUGH (K. Banks) when the pace eased.
NO BETTER SEAT (P. Wolfgram) compounded in the middle stages and finished some distance from the main body of the field. Trainer J. Gleeson was advised that the horse would be ineligible to race until such time as it trials satisfactorily in an official barrier trial.
BULLRUN and NITE ‘N’ SHINE raced wide for the majority of the event.
K. Banks, rider of SEETHROUGH, was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts right out to the finish of the race.
A post race veterinary examination of NO BETTER SEAT failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 6: EMS Maintenance Services Class 1 H'cap – 800m
1st – Kuwani Mocha 2nd – Bindat 3rd – Lass Ee 4th - Toboulio
GORVISH was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 10.02 am.
Trainer K. Deacon was cautioned for making physical contact with jockey N. Thomas prior to weighing in.
TOM’S WISH (D. Barron) was a little slow to begin.
KUWANI MOCHA (N. Thomas) jumped with its head in the air.
SMOKEY MOUNTAIN (S. Apthorpe) jumped away awkwardly.
TOBOULIO (S. Bogenhuber), which was a little slow to begin, was then tightened for room shortly after the start between OTTENS (P. Wolfgram) and BINDAT (S. Katsidis), which was taken out by ON THE CHARGE (T. Pannell).
Near the 150m, SMOKEY MOUNTAIN (S. Apthorpe) had to be steadied and shifted outwards away from the heels of DREAM’S COMING (C. Eaton), which shifted out under pressure. LOVE THAT LION (J. Wood), which was racing to the outside of SMOKEY MOUNTAIN, was hampered as a consequence. C. Eaton, rider of DREAM’S COMING, was reprimanded and instructed to take greater measures to keep her mounts straight in future. In issuing a reprimand only, stewards took into account C. Eaton’s reasonably good race riding record.
Race 7: Brothers Leagues Club Ipswich Class 1 H'cap – 1700m
1st – Zulu Queen 2nd – My First Lady 3rd – Golden Chase 4th - Estrellito
As R. Wiggins was unable to fulfil his engagement on MAVERICK MAN due to personal reasons, D. Barron was substituted as the rider of that gelding.
WAY NORTH (J. Byrne) and MAVERICK (D. Barron) were both tightened for room on jumping away between MY FIRST LADY (K. Banks), which jumped away awkwardly, and LADYSWOOD (T. Pannell), which shifted in.
CHICKEN DINNER (M. Radecker) began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start after being tightened, WAY NORTH shifted in, forcing MY FIRST LADY (K. Banks) in on to GOLDEN CHASE (M. Speers), which was then taken in on to MARQUIS DE ROY (N. Evans), which lost ground.
LADYSWOOD raced wide rounding the first turn and then raced wide for the majority of the race.
Leaving the 1000m, ZULU QUEEN (S. Galloway) shifted in, making contact with CHICKEN DINNER.
Near the 850m, RED FELT had to be eased from the heels of CHICKEN DINNER (M. Radecker).
RED FELT was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
Apprentice J. Wood, rider of RED FELT, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that passing the 200m, he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of MAVERICK MAN, causing that horse to be checked. J. Wood was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 25 July and to expire at midnight, 2 August 2009.
COOLY ROAD (M. Hellyer) struck the running rail near the finish line and became unbalanced.
MAVERICK MAN (D. Barron) raced wide for a major portion of the race.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WAY NORTH, J. Byrne stated that whilst the horse was a little slow to begin, it was not entirely suited by the tempo of the race, in particular the stop/start pattern. He added that, in his opinion, the horse may be better suited when it gets up further in distance.
Race 8: Rosewood Festival Class 1 Plate – 2200m
1st – Straight Shooting 2nd – Lander 3rd – Shot Bar 4th – Hooray Tobey
Trainer J. Wallace was fined $50 for presenting FREAKISH to the enclosure without a tongue-tie
AFFIDAVIT (M. Speers) and CONTOURS (K. Banks) were caught wide in the early stages and raced wide for the majority of the race.
For some distance leaving the 1600m, MONATES (G. Colless) was inclined to pull hard.
Rounding the home turn, HOORAY TOBEY (S. Katsidis) was disappointed for a run between TICKLE ME QUICK (M. Hellyer) and BENTLEY BLUE (J. Taylor). HOORAY TOBEY was then held up until straightening.
Close to the finish line, HOORAY TOBEY (S. Katsidis) had to be steadied when SHOT BAR (B. Stewart) shifted out slightly, and LANDER (S. Scriven), which shifted in when hard ridden.
Race 9: Harcourts Real Estate F&M Class 2 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Peaceful Belle 2nd – Brookie Babe 3rd – Any Wonder 4th - Jezzamine
Correct weight was delayed to enable connections to view the photo-finish for 4th placegetter, Jezzamine.
Stewards also delayed correct weight to interview starter Mr Corvi, assistant start Mr Greasley and view the start of the race together with the connections of ACADEMY PRIDE following a report from the starter that the horse had become fractious in the barriers as the start was effected.
Stewards also delayed correct weight to interview starter Mr R. Corvi and assistance starter Mr G. Greasly, who was the starter for this race, and he reported that as he was in the process off affecting the start, ACADEMY PRIDE had become fractious in the barriers. Jockey Katsidis stated that he had sought assistance from an attendant as the horse had been fractious and had lunged at the gates. Stewards were satisfied that the horse had been afforded a fair start and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.
Subsequently stewards were satisfied that ACADEMY PRIDE was afforded a fair start and correct weight was then declared on the Judge’s placings. The connections of ACADEMY PRIDE were advised that ACADEMY PRIDE must pass a barrier test prior to racing again.
JEZZAMINE (J. Byrne) an PEACEFUL BELLE (B. Stewart) began awkwardly.
S. Galloway reported that METER MAID overraced in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the finish line, DIVINEINTERVENTION (C. Eaton) had to be steadied when cramped for room between JEZZAMINE (J. Byrne) and PYPER’S IMAGE (M. Speers), which shifted out under pressure.
Race 10: Harcourts Real Estate CG&E Class 2 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Wind Gusts 2nd – Romac’s Express/Lovmieko 3rd – Rocktari 4th – Passionate Stash
BLUE CRUISER (S. Apthorpe) was tightened for room on jumping away between WIND GUSTS (S. Katsidis) and ROMAC’S EXPRESS (S. Scriven), which jumped outwards.
Jockey T. Treichel, rider of PASSIONATE STASH, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of YOUR MATE JIMMY (K. Yoshida), causing that horse to lose its position and as a result causing tightening to LOVMIEKO (N. Seymour). T. Treichel was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 26 July and to expire at midnight, 7 August 2009.
BLUE CRUISER (S. Apthorpe) raced wide for the majority of the event.
MEAN MACHINE also raced wide during the race.
Jockey T. Treichel was reprimanded for failing to seek permission to leave the jockeys’ room after the last race.
