SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
Stewards today inquired into a complaint from Trackwork Supervisor Mr Bell and Racecourse Ranger Mr Schultz following an incident involving trackwork rider Mr M. Pearson at the trackwork session on 27 October 2009. Subsequently, M. Pearson pleaded guilty to a charge of improper conduct under AR175(q) by verbally abusing Mr Bell and Mr Schultz following their decision to cancel the grass jumpouts on that morning. Mr Pearson’s trackwork rider’s licence was suspended for a period of 2 months, however in accordance with Local Rule 36(h), stewards ordered that such period of suspension be suspended fully for a period of 12 months conditional that Mr Pearson does not breach this rule or similar rules in that period. Mr Pearson was also fined $500 and following submissions allowed 2 months to pay that fine.
Race 1: Optus Business Direct Maiden Plate – 1700m
1st – Blanche 2nd – Pablo 3rd – No Hurry 4th – Court Jesting
As L. Rolls was ill, R. Wiggins was substituted as the rider of MR DAYBREAK.
ZA LOVETT (G. Geran) shifted out shortly after the start and hampered GOLD CYMBALS (A. Spinks).
NO HURRY (J. Bowditch) was inclined to lay out approaching the home turn.
When questioned as to ZA LOVETT racing closer to the lead today, G. Geran stated that after being caught wide approaching the first turn he was of the opinion he had no option other than to allow the horse to proceed forward and race outside the leader.
When questioned as to his riding of PABLO near the 800m, C. Reith explained that rather than bustle his mount at a point where the pace was reasonable, he elected to allow COURT JESTING (G. Colless) to shift in onto the rails as he felt it was one of the chances in the race and it would be a better option to trail that runner rather than become pocketed to its inside. His explanation was noted.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of WICKED WHISPERS, A. Pattillo stated that the horse may not have backed up from its last run 6 days ago and also may have been affected somewhat by the heat today. Trainer T. Sears agreed with A. Pattillo’s assessment and undertook to notify stewards of any abnormality that comes to light with WICKED WHISPERS that may have had a bearing on the performance today.
GOLD CYMBALS was examined by the veterinary surgeon and found to have bled during the event. Trainer N. Hocking was advised that the gelding would be barred for a period of 3 months.
Race 2: Ray White Ipswich QTIS 3yo Maidne H'cap – 800m
1st – Aquila Brave 2nd – Chester’s Express 3rd – Conahy 4th – Jillilikes
SKILFUL RAIN was declared a late scratching at 9.28 am. Trainer T. Tatkovic was fined $200 for failing to scratch the horse by the prescribed time.
OMBRA MATTINO (P. Wolfgram) jumped in the air at the start and lost ground.
PREVAILABLE (M. Milford) was slow to begin.
CHESTER’S EXPRESS (A. Taylor) jumped away awkwardly.
GIVETHEGIRLSAGO (S. Drake) was slow into stride.
OMBRA MATTINO was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.
PREVAILABLE raced greenly around the home turn and in the straight.
When questioned as to the performance of JILLILIKES, jockey D. Tanti reported that the horse was having its first start this preparation and tired over the latter stages. Trainer L. Kelly agreed that the filly would take improvement from today’s race.
Race 3: Channel 7 CG&E Maiden H'cap – 1200m
1st – Tasty Tidbit 2nd – Mountain Of Dreams 3rd – Sir Lister 4th - Brokacanon
MAGIC TURBO (S. Bogenhuber) was tightened for room on jumping away between NUGGETS NOT ROCKS (D. Craven) and RICHMOND LAD (R. Goltz), which jumped outwards.
Jockey W. Moore, rider of HOT FOSTERS, was found guilty of a charge under AR137(a), in that near the 900m her permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of NUGGETS NOT ROCKS (D. Craven), causing that horse to be checked and resulting in MAGIC TURBO (S. Bogenhuber) being tightened for room. WATTLE BRAVE (J. Taylor) had to be checked off the heels of NUGGETS NOT ROCKS in this incident. Jockey Moore was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings.
Jockey Moore pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(a), in that near the 750m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MAGIC TURBO, causing that horse to be checked and resulting in a tightening to MOUNTAIN OF DREAMS. Jockey Moore was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 meetings. Stewards ordered that both periods of suspension be served concurrently, to commence at midnight, 4 November and to expire at midnight, 18 November.
Leaving the 600m, SIR LISTER (R. Wiggins), which raced greenly, shifted out abruptly.
MAGIC TURBO was held up for clear running in the straight until near the 100m.
CHADWICK (B. Stewart) was obliged to race wide for the entire race.
FIDAKAT (J. Brown) also raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 4: City Of Ipswich F&M Maiden H'cap – 1200m
1st – Daneready 2nd – One More Shot 3rd – Zero Suspicion 4th – Sea Dream
MISS TRISH (P. Hammersley) missed the start.
VIVA LA SLAM (C. Eaton) jumped away awkwardly.
WHOSHOTYAMAMMA (A. Spinks) was tightened for room on jumping away between ZERO SUSPICION (K. Yoshida) and ABRUZZI SPUR (B. Stewart), which jumped away awkwardly. A short distance later, BENT PENNY (M. Milford) shifted out and forced ABRUZZI SPUR out on to WHOSHOTYAMAMMA.
Near the 850m, VIVA LA SLAM (C. Eaton), when racing between FERENGI (K. Sawyers) and CLIFFISEE (W. Clasohm), shifted out and away from FERENGI across the heels of CLIFFISEE.
Leaving the 800m, ONE MORE SHOT (G. Geran), which was overracing, shifted out, taking SEA DREAM TWO (J. Holder) wider on the track.
Shortly after straightening, SEA DREAM TWO (J. Holder) was inclined to lay in under pressure and near the 200m J. Holder dropped his whip when experiencing difficulty fully testing his mount due to its tendency to lay in.
CLIFFISEE and VIVA LA SLAM raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 5: Recruitment Queensland Class 1 H'cap – 1700m
1st – Amery 2nd – Minashee 3rd – Bos Bovis 4th – Quite Stylish
An inquiry was opened into jockey B. Stewart’s handling of DUBAI OASIS. After taking some evidence from trainer J. Walk and jockey B. Stewart, the inquiry was adjourned until 11.30 am on 9 November at Queensland Racing.
AMERY (M. Wood) and QUITE STYLISH (K. Cross) were slow to begin.
Race 6: Schweppes Class 2 H'cap – 1350m
1st – The Roman 2nd – Demonstrator 3rd – Cheval Argente 4th – Wynnum High
Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey Katsidis to view the film of the start to ascertain if he was afforded a fair start on SHOTIME. After taking evidence from S. Katsidis and starter Mr Herne and viewing the official video, stewards were satisfied that after being fractious in the barriers, the horse was afforded a fair start, and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.
SHOTIME (S. Katsidis) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with WYNNUM HIGH (R. McMahon).
Following the race, B. Pengelly reported that as it had been intended to ride CHEVAL ARGENTE with cover today following its disappointing run at its previous start when leading, he had difficulty getting the horse to settle with the slow pace and as a result he allowed CHEVAL ARGENTE to stride up outside the leader near the 800m.
R. McMahon, rider of WYNNUM HIGH, was fined $400 after being found guilty of changing his safety vest after weighing out.
Race 7: XXXX Gold CG&E Class 1 H'cap – 1100m
1st – Matai 2nd – Heza Rocker 3rd – Rainy Knight 4th – Go Easy
AFAIRGO (G. Colless) jumped away awkwardly and blundered, losing ground at the start. Following the race, G. Colless reported that as a result of this incident he injured his left elbow when it struck the barrier partition. As a result of missing the start, AFAIRGO was then obliged to race back in the field and commenced a run wide on the track leaving the 700m and as a result of being extremely wide on the home turn the horse did not finish the race off over the latter stages.
RAINY KNIGHT (M. Hellyer) and CONVICTOR (B. Stewart) had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and until leaving the 200m.
Near the finish line, GO EASY (L. Cheshire) was crowded for room between RAINY KNIGHT and HEZA ROCKER (S. Katsidis), which shifted out under pressure.
On pulling up, D. Tanti was dislodged from LIST OF HONOURS. As a result of being injured, D. Tanti was stood down from his engagement on DAINTY LADY in race 9 and was replaced by L. Cheshire.
Race 8: Ipswich Summer Holidays Family Racedays F&M Class 1 H'cap – 1100m
1st – Truly Ablaze 2nd – Zekeza 3rd – Asenjar 4th - Falvelizabeth
HAY BABY (S. Drake) jumped away awkwardly.
BRADBURY’S WORLD (A. Spinks) was slow to jump.
BEAUTIFUL MEMORY (M. Hellyer), which jumped away awkwardly, was tightened for room shortly after the start between FALVELIZABETH (A. Badger) and DAINTY LADY (L. Cheshire), which jumped outwards.
Near the 850m, DRAWN TO DUBAI (B. Stewart) and PRETTYEXPLOSIVE (A. Merritt) were cramped for room by DANITY LADY (L. Cheshire), which shifted in.
Leaving the 800m, EGYPTIAN JEWEL (G. Geran) had to be steadied after improving on to the heels of PRETTY EXPLOSIVE (A. Merritt).
Near the 750m, DRAWN TO DUBAI improved on to the heels of FALVELIZABETH, and shifted out, making contact with PRETTYEXPLOSIVE (A. Merritt).
Passing the 700m , DRAWN TO DUBAI shifted out off the heels of FALVELIZABETH, forcing PRETTYEXPLOSIVE wider.
