Race 1: QCU PLATE – 2150M.
1st – Zaman 2nd – Liberty’s Magic 3rd – Spirit of Umtali 4th – Mythical

Connections advised that TUESDAY DREAM will be ridden more forward if possible. The horse was ridden accordingly.

MYTHICAL (S. Scriven) jumped away awkwardly.

COURT JESTING (G. Colless), LIBERTY'S MAGIC (S. Seamer) and ELECTRIC EAGLE (J. Taylor) were a little slow to jump.

ELECTRIC EAGLE commenced to overrace approaching the first turn and the horse raced ungenerously making the first turn and had to be checked when it shifted across the heels of CUBAN (N. Yamada). ELECTRIC EAGLE continued to overrace for the majority of the event.

THEREABOUTS (T. Huxham) made the turn out of the straight awkwardly and shifted out taking MYTHICAL (S. Scriven) wider on the track. THEREABOUTS was then ridden forward to assume the lead near the 1300m, however the horse compounded after leaving the 800m.

CUBAN was caught three wide on the first turn and was obliged to race three wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned as to the poor performance of THEREABOUTS, T. Huxham stated that he had been instructed to lead, however the horse failed to handle the step up in distance of today’s event. Trainer T. Thomas agreed with apprentice Huxham’s assessment and confirmed the instructions and would endeavour to place the horse in shorter races. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

When questioned as to the poor performance of BLUE HAWAII, S. Katsidis explained that the horse had a tendency to pull hard and following the race advised trainer J. Thompson’s representative Mr Edmonds that the horse may be better suited racing without blinkers. Trainer’s representative Mr T. Edmonds agreed that the horse was inclined to pull hard and would recommend to Mr Thompson that the blinkers be removed. Mr Edmonds also indicated that he would monitor the horse in the days following the race and should anything come to light he undertook to notify stewards. A post-race veterinary examination of BLUE HAWAII revealed no abnormalities.

Race 2: ETU H’CAP – 1200M.
1st – Jive Queen 2nd – D’Orsay 3rd – Devil’s Angel 4th – Cartier Belle

Connections advised that, from the favourable barrier, JIVE QUEEN would be ridden forward today. JIVE QUEEN was ridden accordingly.

DEVIL'S ANGEL (S. Seamer) jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and made heavy contact with VETTE (S. Katsidis). VETTE then shifted in making contact with the hind quarters of PAY IN SILVER (C. Whiteley).

Shortly after the start CARTIER BELLE (J. Byrne) commenced to overrace and pull very hard, and near the 700m, when pulling hard, had to be restrained off the heels of PAY IN SILVER and shifted out forcing STAR VALERIE (M. Heagney) wider.

DEVIL'S ANGEL hung in when challenging for the lead in the early stages and after assuming the lead the horse continued to hang in. The horse’s racing manners were drawn to the attention of trainer R. Milne and a warning was issued. Mr Milne indicated that he would experiment with the removal of the tongue tie.

Near the 1000m NATURALBORNKISSER (D. Griffin) was cramped for room between JIVE QUEEN (L. Cassidy) and PAY IN SILVER, which was inclined to shift in and away from DEVIL'S ANGEL which was hanging in.

DANCING DUO (B. Pengelly) raced three wide for the entire event.

PAY IN SILVER was under pressure on the home turn and did not finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 3: LHMU H’CAP – 1200M.
1st – Zeroad In 2nd – Mac’s Hero 3rd – Aletheia 4th – Lonesome Day

TWO BOBS WORTH (K. Ashton), PRINCE SHOWCORZ (M. Cahill) and CURSE OF ADAM (A. Pattillo) missed the start.

On jumping away COUNT REDMAN (D. Griffin) was tightened between RUSTY FEATHER (J. Byrne), which jumped inwards, and ZEROAD IN, which shifted out after contacting the hind quarters of LONESOME DAY. For some distance COUNT REDMAN was buffeted between both runners.

ROGUE ROMEO (P. Schmidt) jumped awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with ALETHEIA (G. Colless). A short distance later ROGUE ROMEO then shifted in.

Near the 700m EMSIXTEEN (B. Looker), which was reluctant to hold its position on the rails, was tightened for room by LONESOME DAY when that horse was racing greenly and shifted in and away from ZEROAD IN, which shifted in momentarily.

Near the 600m ALETHEIA shifted out to improve and forced RUSTY FEATHER wider on the track. G. Colless, the rider of ALETHEIA, was cautioned and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Approaching the 500m EMSIXTEEN again was reluctant to hold its position inside LONESOME DAY and had a tendency to lay out.

Near the 400m CURSE OF ADAM, which was inclined to lay out, had to be steadied off the heels of ROGUE ROMEO, which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice P. Schmidt, the rider of ROGUE ROMEO, was severely reprimanded under AR. 137(a).

On straightening ZOOQALO (R. McMahon) attempted to shift out to improve and made contact with ZEROAD IN which was trying to maintain its position.

B. El-Issa, the rider of LONESOME DAY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of ROGUE ROMEO, causing that horse to be checked and suffer interference. B. El-Issa’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday, 8 May 2010, and expire at midnight on Friday, 21 May 2010. ALETHEIA was inconvenienced in this incident.

Approaching the finish of the event, EMSIXTEEN was tightened for room when racing between ZOOQALO and LONESOME DAY, both of which shifted ground. Both B. El-ssa (LONESOME DAY) and R. McMahon (ZOOQALO) were each reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten their mounts.

When questioned in relation to the performance of EMSIXTEEN, apprentice B. Looker explained that the horse never really travelled well in the early and middle stages and whilst it seemed somewhat reluctant to hold it position on the rails, ran home reasonably well over the concluding stages. Trainer’s representative Mr D. Smith stated that the stable would consider racing the horse in blinkers.

Race 4: AMIEU H’CAP – 1000M.
1st – Lough Rea 2nd – Toast Of Dubai 3rd – Lady Leo 4th - Tafeer

HAY BABY (B. El-Issa) lost valuable ground at the start when the horse dropped its head as the gates opened and almost dislodged B. El-Issa. Connections were advised to provide a further barrier certificate before HAY BABY races again.

Shortly after the start MEDECIS GEM (B. Hull) shifted out away from TOAST OF DUBAI (P. Schmidt), making contact with TAFEER (S. Scriven), forcing it out on to DRAWN TO DUBAI (A. Nicholls).

TAFEER was caught four wide rounding the first turn.

Apprentice P. Schmidt, the rider of TOAST OF DUBAI, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 450m she permitted her mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of COLUMNS (D. Griffin), causing that horse to be taken in on to FARIXTON (M. Cahill), resulting in FARIXTON having to be checked. Apprentice P. Schmidt’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday, 9 May, and expire at midnight on Thursday, 20 May 2010.

Race 5: RBTU H’CAP – 1000M.
1st – Seek And Find 2nd – Seventh Heart 3rd – Universal Hat 4th - Rioqualo

Trainer D. Kelly was fined $100 under LR. 70 for failing to declare B. Looker as the rider of RIOQUALO by the prescribed time.

Jockey J. Byrne was fined $100 under 85Bfor accepting dual engagements on SEVENTH HEART and OPSHOP. S. Katsidis was subsequently substituted as the rider of SEVENTH HEART

At scale M. Hellyer, the rider of 5th placegetter IN TOP SPIN, lodged a protest against RIOQUALO (B. Looker), 4th past the post, alleging interference at the 200m. Prior to the protest hearing commencing, both riders elected to view the film and after viewing the film M. Hellyer withdrew his protest.

OPSHOP (J. Byrne) stood flat-footed and missed the start. Trainer D. Schmidt was advised that he must obtain 2 barrier certificates for OPSHOP before it races again.

IN TOP SPIN (M. Hellyer) was slow to jump.

SEEK AND FIND (B. Pengelly) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out making contact with SHUMIE GO (K. Ashton), forcing it out on to RIOQUALO (B. Looker).

Leaving the 200m IN TOP SPIN shied at RIOQUALO when taking a run between RIOQUALO and HAPPY GENES (J. Taylor) and had to be checked off the heels of HAPPY GENES then shifted out onto RIOQUALO.

A post-race veterinary examination of OPSHOP failed to reveal any abnormalities.

SEVENTH HEART (S. Katsidis) was examined following the race when a swabbing attendant reported that there was a nasal discharge from the gelding. A veterinary examination revealed that the horse may have suffered some nasal trauma.

Race 6: CFMEU CONSTRUCTION AND GENERAL H’CAP – 1666M.
1st – Libertarian 2nd – World By Night 3rd – Banana Kick 4th – Dont Call Me Bruce

BLOODHOUND (P. Wolfgram) and CHAR INNOCENT (J. Wood) missed the start.

TIKIT TO GLORY (D. Griffin) jumped out at the start forcing DONT CALL ME BRUCE (L. Rolls) out on to LIBERTARIAN (J. Byrne).

Near the 1300m DONT CALL ME BRUCE, when being eased to take a trail, was inclined to race fiercely.

ASYOUCANDO (S. Katsidis) was caught three wide on the first turn and was obliged to race three wide for the remainder of the event.

BLOODHOUND had a tendency to hang out in the middle stages.

Race 7: CFMEU MINING AND ENERGY QTIS 600 PLATE – 1100M.
1st – Buffering 2nd – Devinardi 3rd – Jamandtoast 4th – Cavaliered

EXPRESSWAY (S. Katsidis) jumped awkwardly and missed the start.

GORDIE (L. Rolls) was tightened on jumping away between PICCOLO ROYAL (B. El-Issa) and REFLECTION OF JADE (C. Munce), which shifted out.

Near the 800m GORDIE, had to be steadied when racing in restricted room between REFLECTION OF JADE and PICCOLO ROYAL.

Also near the 800m BRADBURY’S FORTUNE (D. Griffin) had to be steadied when it improved onto the heels of PICCOLO ROYAL.

On straightening CAVALIERED (M. Cahill) shifted out to improve and made contact with DEVINARDI (K. Pope), which maintained its position.

When questioned as to the disappointing performance of JANTZEN, J. Taylor explained that the horse did not seem to race with its normal zip in the early part of the event and was under pressure prior to the 400m. He added that the horse may be coming to the end of its preparation. Trainer Mrs H. Page agreed that the horse has come to the end of its preparation and would now be sent for a spell.

Race 8: CFMEU MINING AND ENERGY LABOUR DAY SPRINTERS CUP – 1350M.
1st – Sinful Warrior 2nd – Charter Boat 3rd – Mystic Vibe 4th – Pit Lane

KOOTENANNIE (P. Wolfgram) was slow into stride.

When the pace steadied after leaving the 800m PIT LANE (B. Looker) improved on to the heels of MYSTIC VIBE (L. Rolls) and shifted out forcing THORONDO (D. McWhinney) wider on the track.

Also when the pace slowed after leaving the 800m THREE SWALLOWS (Matthew Palmer) had to be steadied when it improved on to the heels of CHARTER BOAT (G. Colless).

THREE SWALLOWS was held up for clear running until approaching the 100m.

When questioned as to the disappointing performance of UNINTENTIONAL, S. Katsidis stated that after being slow to begin, the horse did not travel well in the early stages. He added that when the pace slowed near the 800m the horse commenced to travel and he elected to follow PIT LANE, however the horse could not sprint when the pace quickened and only finished the race off fairly. Trainer K. Schweida undertook to notify stewards of anything that may come to light following the horse’s performance today.

SO SHALL THIS (B. El-Issa), which compounded over the latter stages, was examined by the veterinary surgeon who reported that she could find no abnormalities.
