The saddle of CARDIO shifted to the off side shortly after the start, placing apprentice B. Wallace at a distinct disadvantage throughout the event.

ROYAL SAINT (M. Wood) and REORIENTATE (B. Looker) both raced wide for the majority of the event.

FELINE HUNTER (K. James) shifted out under pressure approaching the finishing line, causing CELESTAFY (K. Pope) to be momentarily steadied. Apprentice K. James was advised to exercise more care.

After being slow to begin, FLYING TO CHINA (D. Barron) then commenced to improve her position in the field, however when forced to race very wide D. Barron elected to ease the filly. FLYING TO CHINA then commenced to race ungenerously and as a result he was obliged to let the filly stride forward which resulted FLYING TO CHINA racing three wide for the remainder of the event.

Jockey G. Baker, the rider of RAPID LEICA JACKO, advised stewards that at no stage was he able to obtain clear running in the home straight between ARABIAN GARDEN (R. McMahon) and RED DASH and as a result his mount went to the line without being fully tested. Stewards noted his comments.

On return to scale apprentice J. Wood, the rider of 2nd placegetter SPERA, lodged an objection against ROCKET TO RIO (D. Barron) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After hearing evidence from all parties and viewing the official video, stewards conceded that although there was a minor brush of the runners concerned at the 200m, they did not believe that it had any material effect on the finishing positions of the two horses and dismissed the protest and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s numbers of: 4, 2, 3, 6.

RACING HEART (M. Speers) began awkwardly.

FAVOURS TRADED (K. Pope) and SWEET SOUND (C. Whiteley) were slow to begin.

Fujii, the rider of FRENCH LEGEND, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that leaving the 100m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of FAVOURS TRADED (K. Pope), which was forced out across the heels of RACING HEART (M. Speers) and had to be checked. K. Fujii’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 8 May 2010, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 19 May 2010. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account K. Fujii’s good recent riding record.

OMBRE (A. Butler), ESCUDOS (M. Hellyer) and SHOTIME (R. McMahon) were all slow to begin.

Apprentice M. Palmer, the rider of RED AMIGO, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of ARDMILAN (J. Wood), which had to be checked when tightened on to KIDDING (M. Speers), which had to be steadied. M. Palmer’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 8 May 2010, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 19 May 2010.
