J. Pengelly), which was taken in on to BROKACANON (R. McMahon), which had to be checked when taken in on to the heels of COURT JESTING (K. Forrester). J. Holder’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 17 July, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 28 July 2010.

Trainer G. Walters pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct under AR. 175(q) in that in the enclosure following the event he used inappropriate language in addressing jockey R. McMahon who rode BROKACANON. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account that Mr Walters had been fined $200 in February 2010 for an offence under the same rule and fined him $1000; however, acting under the provisions of LR. 22(f), stewards ordered that $500 of that fine be suspended for a period of 12 months provided that Mr Walters does not breach the same or a similar rule within that period. Stewards ordered that the fine of $500 be paid within a period of three months.

Trainer M. Guldbransen was advised that a warning was being placed on the racing manners of SOMERSET QUEEN (M. O’Brien), which had a tendency to hang out throughout the event.

1st – Mieko’s Diamond 2nd – Dulacca Jet 3rd – General Almighty 4th – Tycoon Cat

As K. Banks was to be overweight, J. Holder was substituted as the rider of SILVA NOVA. Stewards noted the mitigating circumstances surrounding K. Banks’ inability to fulfil the engagement and took no further action.

Due to misprints in the racebook, K. Banks was shown as the rider of MISS FORWARD when N. Thomas had been engaged to ride the filly, and apprentice B. Wallace was shown as the rider of MURRUMBA DOWNS when B. El-Issa had been engaged to ride that gelding.

MIGHTYSUI (K. Forrester) and MURRUMBA DOWNS (B. El-Issa) were both slow to begin.

FRAHA (K. Ashton), DULACCA JET (S. Katsidis) and BANDERIN (M. Abe) all raced wide for the majority of the event.

Leaving the 600m LIADAIN (J. Bowditch) commenced to hang out and as a result shifted very wide on the track rounding the home turn. Trainer S. A post-race veterinary examination of LIADAIN failed to reveal any abnormalities.

DULACCA JET raced greenly throughout the event and blundered near the 400m.

Leaving the 100m MIEKO'S DIAMOND (B. Wallace) shifted out under pressure making contact with SILVA NOVA (J. Holder).

Near the finish line SILVA NOVA shifted in under pressure making contact with LITTLE ZACHARY (M. Speers).

Approaching the 1000m IDLE RICH (D. Craven) had to be steadied when crowded for room by ONE MORE SHOT (S. Katsidis), which improved into a narrow run inside the heels of ZAMELIHA (A. Kitson) which then shifted in slightly. IDLE RICH then resented racing in restricted room between ONE MORE SHOT and DRAWN TO DUBAI (J. Byrne) and as a result was steadied. KINGCUP (B. Hull), which was following, also had to be steadied in this incident. As stewards felt no one rider was to blame, no further action was taken.

ZAMELIHA raced wide throughout.

Near the 500m DRAWN TO DUBAI had to be restrained to avoid the heels of the tiring KINGO (J. Taylor).

NERO’S FIRE (B. Pengelly) hung out rounding the home turn and then had a tendency to hang out under pressure in the home straight.

When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance of BIG GERRY (A. Merritt), trainer G. Richardson stated that at its previous start at Esk on Saturday, 3 July 2010, the horse missed the start and was back further than anticipated throughout the run, however found the line strongly. In today’s event the horse was able to begin well from its inside draw and raced in a similar pattern today as it did at Kilcoy on Saturday, 19 June 2010, where it led on that occasion for a majority of the event and was able to win. Ms Richardson further stated that it would be her wish that in future the horse is ridden in a similar manner to that of today’s event and was looking forward to the horse continuing to race in a prominent fashion.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MARGARET, B. Looker stated that after beginning awkwardly he had to pressure MARGARET to go forward to a prominent position, however felt the filly travelled comfortably until a point near the 600m, but once placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith agreed with apprentice Looker’s assessment and even though it was the horse’s first run after a spell he was of the opinion that MARGARET was forward in condition for today’s assignment and was disappointed with the horse’s performance. Mr Mayfield-Smith further stated that he would advise stewards should anything come to his attention in the following days that may have had a bearing on the horse’s performance today. A post-race veterinary examination of MARGARET failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

Near the 1000m MISS RYE (J. Taylor) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MISTERSUN (K. Ashton) which shifted in.

Near the 1000m PUNTERS CORNER had to be steadied after improving into a narrow run between LUNAR LIFE (J. Bowditch) and TEGIC (Matthew Palmer) which had a tendency to hang in.

PRINCE VILHELM and ROMINOV (R. McMahon) both raced wide for the majority of the event.
