SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From TTC, 11.9.10

Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reasons for app. B. Evans failing to arrive at the track to fulfil his engagement on FANTASTIC BLUE (R2) and LEICA PULSE (R4). After taking evidence from trainer P. Nolan, stewards took no further action after establishing that due to an error in communication, B. Evans was not able to take the rides as he was committed to riding at Doomben earlier in the day.

Race 1: Brothers Golf Club Class 3 H'cap – 2150m
1st – Brilliant Con 2nd – Sir Mossman 3rd – Don’t Back Down 4th – With Elegance

HOOTILLA (B. Evans) was slow to begin.

Near the 1300m, POETIC MISTRESS (J. Taylor) improved up on to the heels of DON’T BACK DOWN (K. Mizobe) and shifted out, taking TUNES OF GOLD (M. Hellyer) wider on the track.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HOOTILA, B. Evans stated that the horse was stepping up in distance today and this combined with the prevailing track conditions, were contributing factors for the seemingly poor performance. A post race veterinary examination of HOOTILA failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 2: Brothers Bowls Club F&M Maiden – 1350m
1st – Mary Tee 2nd – Watch The Show 3rd – Belle Verde 4th – Bom Chicka Wah Wah

TEEPOH was declared a late scratching at 8.35 am. Trainer R. Heathcote was fined $100 for failing to scratch the horse by the prescribed time. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account Mr Heathcote’s good record regarding such matters.

The start of this race was delayed slightly due to SMART OF COURSE being fractious in the barriers.

SMART OF COURSE (B. Evans) began awkwardly.

Near the 1200m, LADY INNOCENT (L. Cheshire) overraced at the heels of DJEBEL’S IMPACT (B. Stewart) and shifted out, forcing WATCH THE SHOW (P. Wolfgram) and REGAL SANCTUM (C. Munce) wider on the track.

Approaching the 900m, LA BELLE AURORE (J. Wood) shifted in and made contact with the running rail.

MARY TEE (M. Wood) was inclined to hang out under pressure over the final 300m.

SMART OF COURSE (B. Evans), RED WHITE ‘N’ BLUE (N. Yamada) and REGAL SANCTUM (C. Munce) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Stewards questioned B. El-Issa regarding his riding of MISS BLOSSOM over the final 400m, in particular his lack of vigour on the mare. Jockey El-Issa explained he was concerned with the horse’s action as earlier in the race the horse made heavy contact with the running rail and he felt the horse may have injured itself as a result. Stewards also questioned trainer J. Fitzgerald regarding the performance of MISS BLOSSOM. Mr Fitzgerald confirmed his disappointment with the horse’s performance and said that consideration would be given to reviewing the racing program of MISS BLOSSOM. Whilst a post race veterinary examination of MISS BLOSSOM revealed the mare not to be lame, he did note it was not striding out normally. After considering the matter, stewards took no further action other than to remind B. El-Issa of his obligations under the rules to ride his mounts right out to the finish of the race, and further relating to the rule regarding notification to the stewards immediately of any matter that may have had a bearing on the horse’s performance.

DJEBEL’S IMPACT lost its off hind plate in running.

HENTIESBAAI (D. Green) was inclined to hang out over the final 600m, which resulted in the horse shifting ground in the straight.

CHAVASSE (B. El-Issa) raced wide for the majority of the event.

CHADWICK lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 4: Kleenheat Gas Class 1 H'cap – 800m

PREVAILABLE (J. Murphy) was tightened for room shortly after the start between LUNAR CHIMES (B. El-Issa) and FRAHA (R. Hinricks), which shifted out. In this incident, PREVAILABLE blundered, resulting in J. Murphy becoming unbalanced.

Approaching the 400m, A PAIR OF DIAMONDS (B. Thomson) was tightened for room when racing between MANEROO CRUISE (K. Misobe) and CARIAD (J. Byrne), which got its head up, raced ungenerously and shifted out despite the efforts of its rider.

Colless’s personal circumstances this week, stewards took no further action other than to remind him of his obligations under the rules regarding this matter.

Apprentice J. Letherby, rider of REGAL RUBEN, was reprimanded for striking his horse in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
