Race 1: RECRUITMENT QUEENSLAND F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – La Bella Rose 2nd – Oh Susie Darlin’ 3rd – Flying Tequila 4th – Drawn To Dubai

The start of this race was delayed as a result of LA BELLA ROSE (G. Colless) proving difficult to load. Trainer A. Bailey was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly regarding her manners at the barrier.

POISED FOR SUCCESS (B. Wallace) was slow to begin.

POISED FOR SUCCESS raced wide for the majority of the event.

FLYING TEQUILA (R. Goltz) had a tendency to overrace in the early and middle stages.

Leaving the 100m DRAWN TO DUBAI (K. Fuji) shifted out to improve and in doing so bumped TY SEEKER (C. Whiteley).

Race 2: QUEENSLAND TIMES QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 800M
1st – Once Again Melady 2nd – Silvakini 3rd – Shantelini 4th – Min Min Man

As J. Byrne was delayed arriving on course, R. Goltz was substituted as the rider of COUGAR FISH.

SHANTELENI (R. Wiggins) and MIN MIN MAN (S. Scriven) were both slow to begin.

JOYS A PLENTY (A. Erhart) began awkwardly and shifted in making contact with VAIN AT HEART (K. Wharton).

When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance of ONCE AGAIN MELADY (R. Hancock) today compared to its unplaced run at the Ipswich meeting on 18 February, Mr G. Green, representative for trainer J. Green, stated that the horse benefited from the gear change of the addition of ear muffs for today as the horse overraced and failed to settle at its previous start. He added that the heavy track on that occasion was also a contributing factor to the disappointing performance. Stewards noted his comments.

When questioned regarding the performance of MIN MIN MAN, S. Scriven stated that the horse failed to muster speed in the early stages of the event and was of the view that the horse would be better suited to races of a distance further than the 800m of today’s event. Trainer B. Guy agreed with jockey Scriven’s assessment and indicated that the horse’s future runs would be over longer distances than today’s 800m.

Stewards questioned K. Wharton regarding the disappointing performance of VAIN AT HEART. K. Wharton said that the horse never travelled well at any stage and could offer no tangible explanation other than to suggest that the horse may be better suited over longer distances than today’s event.

Race 3: QRI QTIS 2Y0 MAIDEN PLATE – 800M
1st – Tycoon Cougar 2nd – Falisaty 3rd - Leealan 4th – Junabee Rose

POCKET THE MONEY (P. Hammersley) was tightened for room on jumping away between TYCOON COUGAR (P. Wolfgram) and SKILFUL PAT (J. Letherby) which shifted out.

SHELOVESTOROCKET (K. Gates) began awkwardly.

LEEALAN (B. Hull) began awkwardly and shifted out.

GOLDSLICK (G. Colless) attempted to buck shortly after the start. Trainer L. Birchley’s representative was advised that GOLDSLICK will be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before again racing.

Approaching the 700m SHELOVESTOROCKET had to be steadied off the heels of FALISATY (J. Byrne), which shifted in and away from TYCOON COUGAR. As a result of this incident FALISATY then shifted out making contact with JUNABEE ROSE (Matthew Palmer).

JUNABEE ROSE hung out rounding the home turn, inconveniencing SKILFUL PAT and CRYSTAL DOLL (N. Yamada).

GOLDSLICK lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 4: QRI CLUB TOUCH MAIDEN PLATE – 1025M

Race 5: YALUMBA CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1100M
1st – Flash The Rock 2nd – Capitol Hill 3rd – Spirit At Sea 4th – Charming Bay

Trainer J. Jarvis was fined $100 under LR. 67 for failing to declare B. Looker as the rider of ADMIRAL DEEMUS by the prescribed time.

Apprentice S. Arnold was fined $200 under AR. 92(12) for failing to claim his full allowance on AEQUITAS.

ADMIRAL DEEMUS (B. Looker) shifted in making contact with MINGTON (G. Colless) at the start.

Apprentice J. Letherby, the rider of REGAL RUBEN, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that leaving the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of AEQUITAS (S. Arnold), resulting in AEQUITAS having to be checked. Apprentice Letherby’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 26 March, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 3 April 2011. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account apprentice J. Letherby’s previous good race riding record.

MINGTON raced wide throughout.

CAPITOL HILL (B. Stewart) and REGAL RUBEN (J. Letherby) both overraced in the middle stages of the event.

Leaving the 300m REGAL RUBEN was tightened for room when racing between MINGTON and ADMIRAL DEEMUS, which was taken out by CAPITOL HILL.

When questioned regarding the overall performance of MINGTON, G. Colless said that he anticipated racing in a forward leading position, however the colt could not muster sufficient early pace which resulted in the horse being caught wide. He added that whilst racing in that position REGAL RUBEN, which was racing to his inside, shifted out on a number of occasions, causing REGAL RUBEN and MINGTON to make contact. Trainer’s representative Mr M. Dunn confirmed his disappointment and stated that consideration was being given to sending the horse for a spell.

The veterinary surgeon reported that REGAL RUBEN sustained a slight laceration to the off hind leg, consistent with being galloped on, and had lost its off hind plate in running.

SPACE GATER raced wide over the final 800m of the event.

Leaving the 200m SHADOWS 'N' STARS (G. Colless) attempted a narrow run between WE ARE HAPPY and TYPHOON FURY and in doing so made contact with TYPHOON FURY, which in turn shifted out and bumped SPACE GATER.

MACEDON (S. Scriven) had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 300m and the 200m.

A post-race veterinary examination of FLYING SHADOW, which yielded ground badly over the final 200m, revealed no abnormalities at the time of examination.

A post-race veterinary examination of TYPHOON FURY revealed the gelding to have sustained a small laceration to its off hind leg, consistent with being galloped on.

Shortly after the start SHINKO'S REVENGE (D. Griffin) and COUPE DE COST (B. Looker) came together and bumped.

EUREKA PEARLS (J. Holder) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Apprentice B. Looker, the rider of COUPE DE COST, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CHICKATILLA (B. Wallace), which shifted in tightening the running of QUALITY COUP. In this incident BUSY DOIN' NOTHIN' (Michael Palmer), OUR GIRL DANNI (S. Drake) and VAUDEVILLE, which were trailing, were all checked. Apprentice Looker’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 26 March, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 6 April 2011.
