SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
As L. Cassidy and apprentice T. Huxham were ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: SKY RACING CLASS 2 H’CAP – 2190M
1st – Flying Johker 2nd – Island Tycoon 3rd – Electric Eagle 4th – From The Shadows
BACK TO ABILENE (B. Wallace) was slow to begin.
ELECTRIC EAGLE (D. Griffin) overraced in the early and middle stages.
FROM THE SHADOWS (Matthew Palmer) had a tendency to hang in when placed under pressure leaving the 600m until entering the home straight.
J. Taylor, the rider of ISLAND TYCOON, dropped his whip approaching the 300m.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TEEPOH, P. Hammersley stated that whilst the horse travelled well in the early stages it failed to respond to his riding leaving the 800m and in his opinion was disappointing. He added that TEEPOH may not have been entirely comfortable on today’s surface and was also of the opinion that the horse may be better suited on a bigger track. Stable representative M. Leitch advised that after conferring with trainer R. Heathcote they were of the opinion that the gelding may have failed to handle today’s track conditions and it would be their intention to avoid starting TEEPOH on rain-affected surfaces. A post-race veterinary examination of TEEPOH revealed no abnormalities.
R. Wiggins was asked to explain the disappointing performance of ARABIA, which finished tailed off. R. Wiggins was unable to offer any tangible explanation and confirmed the horse was disappointing. Trainer W. Lawson could offer no tangible explanation for the performance other than that the horse may have come to the end of its preparation. Mr Lawson advised that he would liaise with the owners regarding the horse’s current racing program. A post-race veterinary examination of ARABIA revealed no abnormalities.
Race 2: TATTSBET.COM QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1696M
1st – Underthebonnet 2nd – Kiss Me Deadly 3rd – Gold Shears 4th – Cash ‘N’ Style
The start was delayed when DRAGON STYLE was unable to be loaded. DRAGON STYLE was declared a late scratching at 1.36 p.m. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on DRAGON STYLE be refunded, with deductions of 10 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place tickets to apply. Trainer M. Brosnan was advised that DRAGON STYLE must obtain two further barrier certificates, by way of an official trial and a jump-out.
HEATHEN CHEMISTRY (S. Scriven), GOLD SHEARS (Matthew Palmer) and TIZ COREY (S. Galloway) were slow to begin.
UNDERTHEBONNET (J. Wood) stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. When questioned, trainer S. Ryan stated that whilst the horse was slow to begin, with the addition of blinkers today it was an improvement on its last start. Mr Ryan advised that he would continue to work on improving the horse’s barrier manners. In light of this undertaking, stewards advised Mr Ryan that a final warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners but should it re-offend in the near future further action will be taken.
KISS ME DEADLY (G. Colless) was inclined to hang out when placed under pressure leaving the 500m and shifted wider on the track allowing GOLD SHEARS to improve to its inside.
HIDDEN BABE (A. Spinks) was held up and unable to improve leaving the 400m and again leaving the 300m until near the 200m where it shifted out to obtain clear running and made contact with the hind quarters of DARK SECRETS (J. Bowditch).
UNDERTHEBONNET shifted out to obtain clear running approaching the 100m, forcing KISS ME DEADLY wider on the track.
HEATHEN CHEMISTRY shifted in under pressure near the 150m, making contact with the running rail.
Race 3: THE QUEENSLAND TIMES MAIDEN PLATE – 1020M
1st – Purpuss 2nd – Bundy 3rd – Tiyatro 4th – Ralfiennes
FLORAL SCENT (J. Taylor), AUSTRALIAN SPIRIT (B. Wallace) and FORTUITOUS BLADE (N. Yamada) were all slow to begin.
KBENGAL (P. Hammersley) was tightened for room on jumping away between PURPUSS (S. Scriven) and TIYATRO (J. Holder), both of which shifted ground.
Shortly after the start LONESOME DAY (T. Fujinuma) commenced to race ungenerously and near the 900m shifted in making contact with FAIR RISE (D. Griffin). Trainer P. Nolan (Jnr) was advised that a warning was being placed on the racing manners of LONESOME DAY.
BUNDY (C. Priest) and LONESOME DAY both raced wide for the majority of the event.
Approaching the 700m FAIR RISE became awkward for a short distance when overracing at the heels of TIYATRO.
When questioned regarding the performance of AUSTRALIAN SPIRIT trainer K. Hickmott advised stewards that he was disappointed with the horse’s performance as it had performed well in a jump-out leading up to today’s event, however was of the opinion that the horse may require the addition of blinkers and that he would experiment with gear leading up to the horse’s next start. Mr Hickmott was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s racing manners.
Race 4: RECRUITMENT QUEENSLAND MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Savage River 2nd – Back In Louisiana 3rd – Bakobi 4th – Canshelove
As R. Wiggins was to be overweight, A. Spinks was substituted as the rider of BACK IN LOUISIANA. R. Wiggins was fined $200 under AR. 120(b).
WITHOUT REPROACH (D. Griffin) and PRINCESS FORSE (G. Colless) were both slow to begin.
CANSHELOVE (J. Bowditch) was crowded for room on jumping away between I EXCEL (J. Taylor) and SPECIAL WEEKEND (B. Richardson), both of which shifted ground.
Leaving the 1100m SAVAGE RIVER (N. Yamada) commenced to throw its head in the air when being restrained.
DELIGHTFUL COMMAND (Matthew Palmer) overraced in the early stages.
I EXCEL and POWER BOSS (S. Scriven) raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the poor performance of PRINCESS FORSE, jockey G. Colless stated that the filly never felt comfortable throughout the event and on a number of occasions raced ungenerously and near the 900m shifted out abruptly making heavy contact with WITHOUT REPROACH. Trainer T. Gollan advised stewards he expected the filly to race in a more forward position, however after being slow to begin was obliged to race midfield where he felt the filly may not have been suited. After considering all submissions, stewards advised Mr Gollan that PRINCESS FORSE must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to being permitted to race again. A post-race veterinary examination of PRINCESS FORSE revealed no abnormalities.

Race 5: IPSWICH CUP – 18 JUNE F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
1st – African Mama 2nd – Nachtanz’s Secret 3rd – Belle Verde 4th – Carry That Weight
Connections advised that GOT THE ROCK (Michael Palmer) would be ridden in a rearward position. The horse was ridden accordingly.
Trainer R. Hawkswell advised stewards that he had instructed apprentice K. Ashton not to use the whip on RUNNING ROYAL.
The start was delayed when NOSHOWS (B. Wallace) was withdrawn by stewards acting on the advice of the veterinarian at 3.21 p.m. after the filly became fractious in the barriers, dislodging apprentice B. Wallace. NACHTANZ'S SECRET (R. Wiggins) and CARRY THAT WEIGHT (D. Griffin), which were in adjacent barriers to NOSHOWS, were also examined by the veterinarian and declared fit to start. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on NOSHOWS be refunded, with deductions of 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets and 11 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets to apply. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that NOSHOWS must obtain two further barrier certificates, by way of an official trial and a jump-out.
SHABUSHI (P. Hammersley) was slow to begin.
AFRICAN MAMA (J. Bowditch) was tightened for room shortly after the start between RAMANI (M. O’Brien) and BELLE VERDE (S. Scriven), which shifted out.
A short distance after the start CLEOPATRA'S LIST (A. Kitson) shifted in making contact with PSYCLONE MISS (G. Colless).
Near the 1000m RUNNING ROYAL (K. Ashton), LADY INNOCENT (Matthew Palmer) and NACHTANZ'S SECRET (R. Wiggins) all raced in restricted room to the inside of BELLE VERDE. Shortly after, NACHTANZ'S SECRET shifted out slightly, making contact with LADY INNOCENT, which in turn shifted out bumping RUNNING ROYAL, which was again tightened when racing to the inside of BELLE VERDE, which shifted in slightly. Whilst stewards noted that RUNNING ROYAL, LADY INNOCENT and NACHTANZ'S SECRET were racing in restricted room leading up to the incident, S. Scriven, the rider of BELLE VERDE, was nonetheless reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in further tightening the runners to his inside.
Stewards questioned S. Galloway, the rider of CARTIER BELLE, regarding the disappointing performance of that mare. S. Galloway stated that the mare never felt comfortable throughout the race and in his opinion was very disappointing to a point that he was reluctant to place the horse under pressure in the home straight. Trainer R. Heathcote’s stable representative, Ms M. Leitch, advised stewards that CARTIER BELLE had pleased the stable in its track work and jump-outs leading up to today’s event and was hopeful of a forward showing, however was disappointed with the mare’s performance today. After hearing all submissions, stewards advised Ms Leitch that CARTIER BELLE must trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again. A post-race veterinary examination of CARTIER BELLE revealed no abnormalities.
Race 6: FASHION & FUNK FRIDAY – 13 MAY C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Royal Talent 2nd – Preacher Boy 3rd – Glow Heart 4th – French Suspect
NIGHT SHADOW (J. Wood) was slow to begin.
After beginning awkwardly, NAUTICAT (S. Scriven) shifted out, becoming awkward on the heels of ILLUDE (Matthew Palmer).
Leaving the 900m NAUTICAT commenced to overrace and had to be steadied off the heels of FEDERER EXPRESS (J. Bowditch).
At the 800m, ROYAL TALENT (G. Colless), which was obliged to race wide throughout, shifted in making contact with NAUTICAT.
Near the 250m both FEDERER EXPRESS and PORTUGUESE (M. Heagney) blundered.
Near the 50m FEDERER EXPRESS had to be steadied when tightened for room between FRENCH SUSPECT (A. Best) and PORTUGUESE (M. Heagney), both of which shifted ground under pressure. Both A. Best and M. Heagney were advised to show greater care when shifting ground.
Race 7: FAMILY FUN DAY – LABOUR DAY – 2 MAY CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1100M
1st – Mary Tee 2nd – Ten Seconds 3rd – Edwardscissorhands 4th – Show A Swing
Trainer D. Forster was fined $100 under LR. 67 for failing to declare B. Looker as the rider of CAPITOL HILL by the prescribed time.
Due to a misunderstanding J. Holder, who replaced with L. Cassidy as the rider of BAROQUE PEARL, was substituted by apprentice S. Bogenhuber after J. Holder had already taken a mount in the race.
The start was delayed when TEN SECONDS (G. Colless) proved troublesome to load.
SHOES (B. Wallace), CAPITOL HILL (B. Looker) and BAROQUE PEARL (S. Bogenhuber) were all tightened for room on jumping away between SHOW A SWING (D. Griffin), which shifted out, and ARACINGWEWILLGO (J. Bowditch), which was taken in by WAY TOO HOT (A. Spinks). As a result of this incident BAROQUE PEARL lost ground.
Shortly after the start CAPITOL HILL commenced to overrace and did so to a point leaving the 800m where it shifted out and inconvenienced ARACINGWEWILLGO, which steadied and shifted in. CAPITOL HILL then raced wide from that point on. As a result of this incident BAROQUE PEARL, after being inconvenienced at the start, when being ridden along, improved sharply on to the heels of ARACINGWEWILLGO and had to be steadied and shift wider on the track.
SHOES overraced in the middle stages and after leaving the 800m had to be steadied off the heels of SHOW A SWING.
A. Spinks, the rider of WAY TOO HOT, was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts to the finish line.
CAPITOL HILL lost its near hind plate in running.
