SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From Eagle Farm 17.8.11 –

Race 2: Trainer R. Hilton advised that RAFFLES MISS had been scoped, with no significant abnormalities found. Mr Hilton said he would experiment with a tongue tie on the mare at its next start.

Race 5: Trainer P. Strong advised that STARTLING PLEASURE had pulled a muscle and that the mare will now be spelled, and may be retired. Mr Strong was advised that if he was to continue with the mare’s racing career, a veterinary certificate of fitness must be provided prior to the mare trialling or racing again.

Race 7: Trainer A. Bailey reported that AGE OF HEROES had not pulled up as well as hoped for, and due to ongoing bone density issues will now be retired from racing.

Race 1: WEST END OLD BOYS QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 1100M
1st – Chew The Fat 2nd – Santa Maura 3rd – Ideal 4th – Doug’s Jet

REGENCY ROYALE (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin.

OUTBACK FORTUNE (P. Hammersley) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with IDEAL (G. Colless).

ON APPEAL (R. Goltz) raced awkwardly during the early stages and blundered near the 800m.

CHEW THE FAT (T. Bell) commenced to lay in under pressure after leaving the 300m and as a result made contact with IDEAL on a number of occasions.

R. McMahon, the rider of DOUG’S JET, dropped his offside rein at a point leaving the 200m and lost the use of it for the remainder of the event.

G. Colless reported that IDEAL hung out throughout the event.

Stewards afforded jockey L. Cassidy the opportunity to comment on the performance of REGENCY ROYALE, which finished tailed off. Jockey Cassidy stated that at no stage did the horse travel and was under pressure from the 700m. Trainer R. Lipp stated that in light of today’s performance the gelding would be sent for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination of REGENCY ROYALE revealed no abnormalities.

CHEW THE FAT lost its off fore plate during running.

Race 2: STRAND HOTEL IPSWICH F&M MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
1st – Showhama 2nd – Welcome Parade 3rd – Sheez Keen 4th – My Opportunity

Trainer J. Fitzgerald was reprimanded for presenting SHEEZ KEEN (A. Pattillo) with incorrect gear.

SKALEACHE (E. Kehoe) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

SHOWHAMA (G. Colless) was slow to begin.

GATINEAU RIVER (K. Yoshida) and MY OPPORTUNITY (N. Yamada) both jumped away awkwardly and made contact.

Leaving the 900m WELCOME PARADE (P. Schmidt), which raced greenly during the early stages, shifted in and away from MINTO’S DREAM (D. Green), which shifted in, and made contact with the hind quarters of SHEEZ KEEN.

WHO CARES WINS (J. Bowditch), MY OPPORTUNITY and MEGA JEWELS (R. Goltz) all raced wide throughout.

SHEEZ KEEN was held up rounding the home turn.

Stewards afforded apprentice T. Bell an opportunity to comment on the performance of SECRET GARDEN. He stated that he had been instructed to position the horse midfield, however after travelling a short distance he was of the opinion he would not be able to obtain a position close to the fence and elected to restrain to the tail of the field. He added that throughout the race he was forced to place slight pressure on the horse to remain in touch with the body of the field and for this reason he elected not to shift wider to improve leaving the 600m when an opportunity appeared available for him to do so. Rather he stayed to the inside and when clear running presented itself leaving the 400m he placed pressure on the filly and in his opinion it ran on fairly. He added that in light of today’s performance it was his opinion that the horse would be more suited to racing over longer distances.

Stewards questioned A. Pattillo, the rider of SHEEZ KEEN (A. Pattillo), regarding tactics adopted, particularly at a stage when leaving the 500m he elected to shift wider on the track to outside the heels of WELCOME PARADE to obtain clear running. This shift enabled SHOWHAMA to improve to his inside and obtain clear running near the 250m when a run presented itself between the two leaders. Jockey Pattillo stated that he felt that the leader, MINTO’S DREAM, had come to the end of its run and as such he shifted out to follow WELCOME PARADE. He then added that he felt that if he could get to the outside of that runner’s heels, this would enable his mount to have an unimpeded run to the line. He further added that near the 300m WELCOME PARADE shifted out and impeded his line for a short distance.

Race 3: I-KNEAD.COM C,G&E MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M
1st – Eddie Bidder Boy 2nd – Geological 3rd – What Do You Want 4th – Monashee Success

The start of this race was delayed when EDDIE BIDDER BOY (J. Stanley) proved difficult to load. Stewards will interview trainer P. Duff in relation to the horse’s barrier manners.

VAN ROBERTO (B. Cornell) and RETRO RAZZ (D. Green) were both slow to begin.

THEATRE PRINCE (I. Coombes) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with WHAT DO YOU WANT (J. Bowditch).

Near the 800m ROLLING HEIGHTS (B. Looker) improved onto the heels of MEDIEVAL MYTH (P. Wolfgram), had to be steadied and shifted out forcing RETRO RAZZ to be steadied and shift wider on the track. RETRO RAZZ raced wide from this point onwards.

TYCOON’S BEST (P. Schmidt) raced wide throughout.

Race 4: I-KNEAD RELIEF F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Aminutemore 2nd – Tizzy Lizzy 3rd – Sargenta 4th – Kistamon

Trainer B. Wakefield was fined $100 for failing to declare J. Kropp as the rider of TIZZY LIZZY by the prescribed time.

MISS VITALITY (K. Fuji) blundered on jumping away.

When the pace slackened leaving the 1000m COMMANDING LASS (D. McWhinney) improved on to the heels of ELUSIVITY (P. Wolfgram) and had to be checked. At the same time KISTAMON (J. Taylor) shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of COMMANDING LASS.

Approaching the 900m both AI JO (K. Yoshida) and DOROTHY (P. Hammersley) improved on to heels and had to be steadied. DOROTHY shifted out and hampered MISS VITALITY, which was forced wider on the track. As a consequence of this AMINUTEMORE (P. Schmidt), SHE’S CANDY (R. McMahon) and DEBZ REIGN (B. Looker), which were all following, were forced to check. DOROTHY and MISS VITALITY then both raced wide from this point onwards.

Leaving the 600m CANADIAN HUSSEY (T. Bell) commenced to yield ground and hang in. This resulted in COMMANDING LASS being hampered and forced to steady on a number of occasions when rounding the home turn.

AMINUTEMORE and DEBZ REIGN were held up for clear running rounding the home turn until a point approaching the 200m.

SHE’S CANDY, which was held up rounding the home turn, improved on to the heels of AI JO and had to be steadied at a point near the 400m.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice T. Bell regarding the performance of CANADIAN HUSSEY. Apprentice T. Bell stated that after settling in a forward position the horse did not travel well throughout the event and from the 600m commenced to yield ground and hang in quite badly. He added that post-race the mare coughed on a number of occasions. Trainer J. McMahon will be interviewed at a later date regarding the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of CANADIAN HUSSEY revealed the mare to be showing signs of tying up.

Stewards questioned Mr D. Schmidt, trainer of AMINUTEMORE, regarding the seemingly improved performance of that mare. Mr Schmidt stated that prior to its most recent start he had given AMINUTEMORE a short spell and freshened the mare up and had expected a forward showing, however the mare suffered interference at vital stages of the race and in his opinion was a much better performance than the final result would suggest. He added that he had expected a forward showing today, particularly when considering that in his opinion the horse is more suited to races over today’s distance. The explanation was noted.

Race 5: I-KNEAD MY HORSE C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Cobbanvilla 2nd – Spring Rain 3rd – Vintage Moss 4th – Village Command

MACHO CAT (R. Hancock) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start CARN (C. Munce) had to be steadied when tightened for room between VILLAGE COMMAND (P. Hammersley) and EASY LAGER (J. Warrington), which shifted in. J. Warrington was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

NIGHT WANDERER (G. Geran) raced greenly and overraced at the heels of BOLD DANCER (D. Green) during the early and middle stages and at a point leaving the 800m shifted in forcing VILLAGE COMMAND to steady. As a consequence, SPRING RAIN (J. Bowditch), which was following, had to be restrained and shifted out to avoid the heels of VILLAGE COMMAND.

At a point approaching the 400m SPRING RAIN improved onto the heels of the tiring DUSTY WISH and had to be checked. As a result of this SPRING RAIN made the home turn extremely wide.

Near the 250m NIGHT WANDERER, when placed under pressure, shifted in and had to be steadied from the heels of BOLD DANCER. NIGHT WANDERER then laid in for the remainder of the event, placing its rider at a disadvantage.

MACHO CAT was held up for clear running over the final 100m.

Stewards questioned J. Hearne, trainer of COBBANVILLA, regarding the seemingly improved performance of that gelding. Mr Hearne stated that he had only had the horse for one start and on this occasion the horse had raced well despite not being entirely suited to the 1200m distance. He added that the owners had advised that the horse’s previous preparations had been hampered by wet tracks and in his opinion was suited by today’s good racing surface. His comments were noted.

A post-race veterinary examination of DUSTY WISH, which commenced to lose ground from the 600m and pulled up a distant last, revealed no abnormalities. Stewards intend interviewing trainer G. Hardy in regards to DUSTY WISH ‘s performance.

Stewards afforded A. Pattillo the opportunity to comment on the performance of VINTAGE MOSS. Jockey Pattillo stated that in his opinion the step up in distance of today’s event along with the weight of 58kg may have contributed in affecting the gelding’s overall performance which in his opinion under the circumstances was not disappointing. His comments were noted.

Race 6: I-KNEAD MY SPORT CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1666M
1st – Untouchable Doll 2nd – Barnesy 3rd – Hirviente 4th – Legal View

Trainer B. Ahrens advised stewards that following CATCH THE RHYTHM’s poor performance at its last start, he had blood tests carried out on the gelding and no abnormalities were detected. He added that subsequent to that run CATCH THE RHYTHM had worked well and he was therefore satisfied to continue with its preparation.

LUCKY LANDING (B. Wallace) blundered on jumping away and lost ground.

HIRVIENTE (J. Fry) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with OFF MY ROCKER (P. Schmidt).

NITRO CIRCUS (B. Looker) overraced during the early stages and at a point near the 1300m improved onto heels and shifted wider on the track forcing CATCH THE RHYTHM (D. Missen) wider on the track and both horses raced wide from that point onwards.

FELINE GREIGHT (J. Taylor) commenced to overrace at a point leaving the 1200m and shortly afterwards shifted wider on the track before improving forward to assume the lead at a point approaching the 800m.

Leaving the 1000m BARNESY (G. Killen) shifted out to improve and in doing so forced GUV’S LAD (P. Hammersley) wider on the track. GUV’S LAD raced wide from that point onwards.

Near the 500m SIR WILLIAM (L. Cheshire) shifted out and hampered GUV’S LAD and NITRO CIRCUS, forcing those horses wider on the track.

HIRVIENTE was held up rounding the home turn.

Approaching the 200m GUV’S LAD was steadied when racing between NITRO CIRCUS and SIR WILLIAM which shifted out under pressure.

Stewards questioned jockey D. Missen regarding the performance of CATCH THE RHYTHM, which performed below market expectations. Jockey Missen stated that at no stage in the race did the horse travel well and raced wide throughout. He added hat it had been his recommendation to the connections to perhaps experiment with the horse’s gear. Trainer B. Ahrens stated that he would consider placing blinkers on the gelding prior to its next start. A post-race veterinary examination of CATCH THE RHYTHM revealed no abnormalities.

Race 7: I-KNEAD MY MASSAGER CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M
1st – Oak Street 2nd – Bustopher Jones 3rd – Peelings 4th – Sky Effort

DUKE HOUSE (G. Geran) and DISPUTED BID (L. Cassidy) were both slow to begin.

BUSTOPHER JONES (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout.

Near the 800m PEELINGS (P. Schmidt) commenced to overrace when being restrained to the inside of OAK STREET (C. Munce) which was inclined to hang in at that point of the race. A short distance later PEELINGS had to be checked from the heels of OAK STREET and as a result lost ground. MARKING TIME (G. Colless), which was following, was then obliged to restrain from the heels of PEELINGS and shifted out at this point hampering both MUFFET (I. Coombes) and DISPUTED BID which then raced wide from that point onwards.

Leaving the 500m PEELINGS again improved on to the heels of OAK STREET and had to be steadied, causing MARKING TIME, which was following, to be steadied also.

BUSTOPHER JONES laid in under pressure during the early stages of the home straight, causing its rider to stop rider and straighten at a point near the 200m.

Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless, the rider of MARKING TIME, regarding his riding tactics during the early stages of the home straight, in particular his reasons for, after improving inside the heels of NOBODY KNOWS (J. Bowditch), steadying and shifting out around that horse’s heels. He stated that after initially being of the opinion he would obtain clear running to the inside of OAK STREET, which was racing forward of NOBODY KNOWS, he elected to steady and shift out after OAK STREET commenced to lay in under pressure. He was of the view that as he would be unable to obtain clear running to the inside, and whilst he would be forced to steady across heels, he was satisfied that this was the better option at the time. Stewards accepted the explanation.
