Race 1: IPSWICH CITY COUNCIL C,G&E MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
1st – Secrets Revealed 2nd – Mister Chicago 3rd – Utzon’s Vision 4th – Spanish Rock
Connections advised that BUNDU BOY (E. Kehoe) would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. The horse settled in a rearward position.
SPANISH ROCK (K. Collins) began awkwardly and lost considerable ground.
BUNDU BOY overraced during the early and middle stages.
Near the 800m SPANISH ROCK blundered.
BUNDU BOY, AUSTRALIAN SPIRIT (S. Drake) and SPANISH ROCK raced wide throughout.
SPANISH ROCK shifted in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
S. Drake, the rider of AUSTRALIAN SPIRIT, was reminded of her obligations in regard to the use of the whip on a horse out of contention.
A post-race veterinary examination of ALJAZEERA (L. Cassidy), which commenced to weaken leaving the 400m, revealed no significant findings.
Race 2: T.P.I. F&M MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
1st – Call Me Paris 2nd – Grab The Loot 3rd – Liberty Quest 4th – Ferocious Diva
Connections advised that FEROCIOUS DIVA (J. Byrne) would be ridden quieter today in an endeavour to allow the horse to settle.
The start of this race was delayed when GRAB THE LOOT (B. Richardson) dislodged its rider en route to the barriers. GRAB THE LOOT was quickly recaptured, examined by the Club veterinary surgeon and passed fit to take its place in the field.
GRAB THE LOOT and FEROCIOUS DIVA (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.
ACTON GIRL (M. Hellyer) and CROATIAN QUALITY (E. Kehoe) bumped shortly after the start.
Approaching the 900m CROATIAN QUALITY, which commenced to overrace, improved up on to the heels of SWEET KWILA (D. Greville) and when being steadied, shifted out forcing ACTON GIRL wider.
JAKATAN (S. Bogenhuber) commenced to hang out leaving the 800m and continued to do so for a considerable distance and as a result raced wide throughout. Connections were advised that an official warning was being placed on the horse’s racing manners.
ACTON GIRL raced wide and was uncompetitive throughout. Trainer W. Bannerot was advised that the horse would be ineligible to compete at provincial meetings until such time as it establishes competitive country form.
I AM BUT A FOOL (Michael Palmer) lost its off hind plate in running.
Race 3: T.P.I. PRESIDENT’S RACE QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1015M
1st – Boodles’n’boodles 2nd – Everything To Gain 3rd – Mezance 4th – Grabthemoney’n’run
Trainer M. Palmer was fined $100 under AR. 114 for failing to scratch WISKWILA by the prescribed time.
Trainer G. Watters was fined $100 under for failing to notify a gear change for MARY GO ROUND (S. Drake) in accordance with AR. 140B.
MARY GO ROUND began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped GIVE IT BERRIES (B. Looker). A short distance later MARY GO ROUND was steadied off the heels of GRABTHEMONEY’N’RUN (J. Warrington), which shifted in.
MATTY’S SEQUEL (J. Byrne) commenced to hang out rounding the 800m turn, forcing MONJAYA BOY (G. Geran) wider on the track. MATTY’S SEQUEL continued to hang out rounding the home turn, forcing MONJAYA BOY wider. A post-race veterinary examination of MATTY’S SEQUEL revealed no significant findings. Trainer H. Page advised stewards that in her opinion the gelding resented racing with a tongue tie for the first time today and added her intention would now be to remove that piece of gear and will consider adding winkers prior to its next start.
MEZANCE (L. Cassidy) faltered near the 700m.
MARY GO ROUND raced ungenerously during the middle stages.
Near the 450m GRABTHEMONEY’N’RUN hung out, clipped the heels of MEZANCE, blundered and then shifted wider, hampering GIVE IT BERRIES. Trainer R. Milne was advised that a warning was being placed on the horse’s racing manners.
BOODLES’N’BOODLES shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
Race 4: IPSWICH T.P.I. CENTRE F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Shocking Blue 2nd – Sweet Reward 3rd – Four Joy 4th – Rockin’ Roxy
FLOUNCING (B. Looker) was considerably slow to begin.
Leaving the 1100m SHOCKING BLUE (J. Byrne) and SWEET REWARD (L. Cassidy) made heavy contact.
Near the 400m I’M A SINGLE LADY (D. Green) was momentarily held up for clear running.
SWEET REWARD was momentarily held up for clear running on entering the straight.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MISTY WARRIOR, J. Taylor stated that the mare never felt comfortable in its action throughout the event. He added that the horse hung out rounding the home turn and was most disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of MISTY WARRIOR, which compounded in the home straight, revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer S. McCarthy was at a loss to explain the performance, however undertook to report to stewards in days subsequent anything that may come to light which would explain the performance and to also furnish the results of blood tests he intends to have carried out on the mare. Mr McCarthy later reported that the mare was displaying signs that she may have been coming into season and that he would be sending her for a spell.
Race 5: TEST EAGLE C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Ripley Glen 2nd – Busy Doin’ Nothin’ 3rd –Tycoon’s Best 4th – What Do You Want
BUSY DOIN’ NOTHIN’ (A. Mundy) and KORNFELD (M. Johnston) were slow to begin.
KORNFELD commenced to overrace during the early stages and improved up on to the heels of DEVIL’S DASH (T. Harrison) and was steadied.
After commencing to overrace DEVIL’S DASH improved up on to the heels of COLIN’S CHOICE (L. Cumberland) near the 900m and was steadied.
ATHENAEUM (J. Brown) raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 100m ATHENAEUM shifted in abruptly, despite the efforts of its rider, and as a result made heavy contact with the hind quarters of TAIL AND ALL (J. Brown), resulting in TAIL AND ALL becoming unbalanced.
KORNFELD hung throughout the event, placing its rider at a disadvantage and the horse went to the line without being fully tested. Trainer J. Glare was advised that the colt must perform satisfactorily on an official trial before racing again. A post-race veterinary examination of KORNFELD revealed a laceration to the nearside lip.
Trainer R. Heathcote reported that he was disappointed with the performance of TAIL AND ALL and could offer no explanation for it, however undertook to report to stewards the results of tests he intends to have carried out in coming days.
Race 6: MILKY BAR CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Javelentia 2nd – Grand Homme 3rd – Bossberg 4th – Charlie’s Boy
JAVELENTIA (Matthew Palmer) was slow to begin.
Rounding the first turn near the 1000m JAVELENTIA became awkward.
ANGELUS BELLE (B. Richardson) and GOA (T. Bell) raced wide throughout.
B. Stewart, the rider of 4th placegetter CHARLIE’S BOY, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the line.
Race 7: MAGPIE COOTAMUNDRA CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1690M
1st – Rare Subject 2nd – Carlson’s Felt 3rd – Sweet Little Filly 4th – Crown The Warrior
The explanation tendered by trainer C. Jordan for the late declaration of B. Looker as the rider of DEGREE OF HONOUR was accepted.
An inquiry opened into the reasons for SIR PARAGON being declared a late withdrawal at 7.48 a.m. was adjourned to a later date after taking initial evidence from trainer D. Murphy.
SILVER TRUMP (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.
Near the 1400m CARLSON’S FELT (B. Richardson) was steadied when tightened for room by OLD RAWHIDE (T. Bell), which shifted in. Apprentice T. Bell was advised in future to exercise more care.
Near the 1000m SHOVNCO (J. Warrington) became awkward at the heels of WILL’N’GUS (M. Hellyer) and shifted out forcing RED LEMONADE (J. Taylor) wider. Both SHOVNCO and RED LEMONADE were then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event.
Near the 450m SWEET LITTLE FILLY (L. Cassidy) was steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of WILL’N’GUS and was then held up for clear running leaving this point until near the 350m where it shifted out and in doing so inconvenienced DEGREE OF HONOUR (B. Looker).
WILL’N’GUS was held up from a point leaving the 450m until near the 200m.
Rounding the home turn PATHI HARN (L. Rolls) shifted out bumping SHOVNCO (J. Warrington), causing its rider to become unbalanced.
Approaching the 100m CARLSON’S FELT shifted out and made contact with RARE SUBJECT (P. Hammersley), and then again over the concluding stages both runners brushed.
