Race 1: ST EDMUND’S COLLEGE FOUNDATION CLASS 2 H’CAP – 2160M
1st – Anagold 2nd – Don’t Walk Away 3rd – Along Came Dolly 4th – Leica Pulse
ANAGOLD (J. Byrne), which was fractious in the gates, began awkwardly and lost ground.
JHELUM (J. Johnson) overraced in the early stages.
J. Kehoe, the rider of MERCHANT GIRL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 1700m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of LOXLEY (G. Geran), which had to shift in, resulting in ALL THE GIRLS (A. Spinks) being crowded for room and having to be checked. J. Kehoe’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence following an existing period of suspension expiring at midnight on 14 March, and to expire at midnight on Friday, 23 March 2012.
Race 2: BR. J. MORGAN QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 800M
1st – Bam’s Boy 2nd – Perfect Glory 3rd – Jet Star Baby 4th – Doctor David
The start of this race was delayed when the barriers had to be moved to allow room for runners to pass between the rail, which was out 10m, and the barriers. After all runners had assembled behind the gates, the barriers were repositioned.
JET STAR BABY (K. Yoshida) had to be resaddled after arriving at the barriers.
GOLDEN VOGUE (J. Taylor) began awkwardly and lost ground.
PERFECT GLORY (D. Griffin) and PURE SHORES (P. Hammersley) were slow to begin.
CORONATION QUEEN (T. Harrison) jumped out at the start, making heavy contact with SO UNFORGETTABLE (G. Geran).
CREATIVE TIPPLE (A. Spinks) began awkwardly.
LOCIMAGOOLI (S. Bogenhuber) raced greenly throughout the event and had a tendency to hang out.
GOLDEN VOGUE raced greenly throughout the event.
CORONATION QUEEN, which hung throughout the event, took charge of its rider rounding the home turn, shifted to the outside running rail and took no further competitive part in the event. Trainer P. Nolan was advised that CORONATION QUEEN must officially trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again.
On returning to scale A. Spinks was dislodged from CREATIVE TIPPLE. After being examined by ambulance officers, A. Spinks was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
GOLDEN VOGUE lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 3: BR. SCHOFIELD F&M MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Ellie La Vie 2nd – Subsequent/Miatoko 4th – Dozing Stampede
MISS TURLINGTON (D. Missen) began awkwardly and shifted in making contact with MIATOKO (G. Colless) and as a result lost ground.
SUNDAE DREAMIN' (T. Harrison) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 1000m MIATOKO shifted in and away from OUR LITTLE MISSY (M. Hellyer), which had a tendency to hang in, crowding the running of ANTSY AGGIE (J. Drury).
Approaching the 1000m DOZING STAMPEDE (S. Apthorpe) shifted in despite the efforts of its rider, tightening the running of ROYAL SAVIVRE (B. Wallace), which resented racing in restricted room and improved on to the heels of ANTSY AGGIE and had to be checked and lost ground.
PAIN AND GAIN (C. Munce), IRISH GIG (D. Griffin) and WHO CARES WINS (J. Wood) raced wide throughout.
M. Hellyer reported that OUR LITTLE MISSY hung in for the entire event.
Race 4: BR. TED MAGEE C,G&E MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Rains 2nd – Stakhanov 3rd – New Ranger 4th – Offyarocka
HE’S OUR MATE (A. Erhart) was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start OFFYAROCKA (P. Wolfgram) shifted in making contact with MAJESTIC EXPRESS (D. Green).
RITZY'S BOY (J. Byrne) commenced to overrace for a short distance shortly after the start.
STAKHANOV overraced in the early and middle stages.
RAINS (C. Munce) raced three wide in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the 1000m COUNTACH (D. Griffin) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of WARSHIP (T. Harrison), which shifted in. Apprentice T. Harrison was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
At the 1000m MAJESTIC EXPRESS improved on to the heels of OFFYAROCKA and had to be steadied.
Leaving the 900m LEO JET (L. Cheshire) commenced to overrace. STAKHANOV, which was also overracing, improved on to the heels of LEO JET and was steadied. NEW RANGER (D. Tanti) and OFFYAROCKA, which were following, were also inconvenienced in this incident.
Near the 300m RITZY'S BOY shifted out to improve and bumped OFFYAROCKA.
RITZY'S BOY lost its off fore plate in running.
STAKHANOV lost its off hind plate in running.
Race 5: SKY RACING CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1100M
1st – Sweet Hussy 2nd – Five O’clock 3rd – Miss Kaydee 4th – Embraer
FIVE O'CLOCK (G. Colless) bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.
CONSTANT CRAVING (J. Byrne) and JAQUALO (P. Hammersley) were slow to begin.
VINTAGE FLINT (T. Harrison) shifted in shortly after the start, making contact with PUNTERS CORNER (K. Yoshida).
PUNTERS CORNER, MISS KAYDEE (R. Wiggins) and SLYSERA (J. Letherby) raced wide throughout.
FIVE O'CLOCK commenced to race ungenerously leaving the 900m and near the 750m commenced to hang out and had to be steadied from the heels of MISS KAYDEE which was racing to its outside.
EMBRAER (R. McMahon) was held up for clear running for the majority of the straight.
FIVE O'CLOCK, which had difficulty obtaining clear running for the length of the straight and shifted out approaching the finishing line, making contact with VINTAGE FLINT.
MISS KAYDEE and PUNTERS CORNER hung in under pressure over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding the performance of FIVE O'CLOCK, G. Colless stated that after the horse missed the start he had no option but to take up a position on the rail trailing the field, however shortly after, FIVE O'CLOCK commenced to race ungenerously and continued to do so for the majority of the event and near the 750m commenced to hang out across the heels of MISS KAYDEE, causing him to steady the horse and then in the home straight had difficulty obtaining clear running. Stewards noted his explanation.
Race 6: CITY OF IPSWICH CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1100M
1st – Rebel Exceed 2nd – Picawinner 3rd – Otango 4th – Millyen
TRAGEDY (J. Taylor) was slow to begin.
STABILIZER (L. Rolls) began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with PICAWINNER (R. McMahon).
Near the 900m RED HOT HUSSLER (R. Wiggins) and LITTLE MISS OMBRA (T. Harrison) were placed in restricted room between OTANGO (J. Johnson) and ISAJOY (M. Hellyer) which shifted in slightly when overracing. As a result of being tightened for room, RED HOT HUSSLER, which was also overracing, shifted in making contact with the hind quarters of OTANGO, which shifted out slightly further tightening the running of RED HOT HUSSLER, which had to be checked. Whilst stewards noted the racing manners of ISAJOY, M. Hellyer was nonetheless issued with a severe reprimand and advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
Approaching the 600m when the pace slackened, THE GINGERMEISTER (J. Drury) improved on to the heels of MILLYEN (D. Griffin), had to be steadied and shifted out forcing OTANGO three wide.
Leaving the 600m RED HOT HUSSLER improved on to the heels of OTANGO and shifted out forcing LITTLE MISS OMBRA wider on the track.
ISAJOY raced wide throughout the event.
Trainer D. Forster advised stewards that in view of THE GINGERMEISTER’s performance today, it would now be her intention that the horse be retired from racing.
Race 7: CHANNEL 7 CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1710M
1st – Captain Fastbuck 2nd – Fierce Rival 3rd – I’m A Single Lady 4th – Cashgah
As P. Hammersley was to be overweight, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of FIERCE RIVAL. P. Hammersley was fined $100 under AR. 120(b).
Connections advised that FIERCE RIVAL (J. Taylor) would be ridden in a midfield position if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin, the horse settled in a rearward position.
The start of this race was delayed to allow interstate races in progress to be completed.
The start was further delayed when SANGRO (S. Bogenhuber) proved difficult to load. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the barrier manners of SANGRO.
SANGRO jumped out at the start making contact with FIERCE RIVAL, which was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start HARRISVILLE TOFF (J. Drury) commenced to overrace and as a result shifted wider on the track and raced wide for the majority of the event.
GENERAL COLLINS (P. Wolfgram) raced wide throughout the event.
Rounding the home turn CAPTAIN FASTBUCK (C. Munce) was held up for clear running behind the heels of GENERAL COLLINS, and near the 300m shifted out making contact with HARRISVILLE TOFF, forcing that runner wider on the track.
SANGRO, which had commenced to weaken, hung out rounding the home turn, allowing I’M A SINGLE LADY (L. Rolls) to improve to its inside.
A post-race veterinary examination of HARRISVILLE TOFF revealed no significant abnormalities.
CAPTAIN FASTBUCK lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 8: CUP DAY BREEZER MARQUEE TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Willhaveahundred 2nd – Hidden Star 3rd – Thirsty For Blood 4th – No Identity
Stewards accepted the reason tendered by apprentice A. Smith (PARIAS) for failing to claim her full allowance.
PARIAS (A. Smith) was slow to begin.
THIRSTY FOR BLOOD (J. Byrne) commenced to hang out leaving the 1200m and continued to do so for the majority of the event, placing its rider at a disadvantage. As a result, THIRSTY FOR BLOOD was obliged to race three wide for the majority of the event. Trainer R. Heathcote’s stable representative, Mr O’Leary, was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of THIRSTY FOR BLOOD.
Leaving the 1100m THE CAT CAN DANCE (T. Harrison) commenced to overrace for some distance and had to be steadied off the heels of WILLHAVEAHUNDRED (P. Wolfgram) on a number of occasions.
Leaving the 100m PARIAS had to be steadied and shift wider to avoid the heels of LIKE A BIRD (M. Hellyer), which shifted out. M. Hellyer was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
R. McMahon, the rider of ALBERT'S CHOICE, was fined $300 for using the whip more than 5 times in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.
