SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
From Doomben Wednesday 11.4.12 – Race 2: Trainer R. Heathcote reported that following the disappointing performance of OUTBACK BIFF, a veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from a muscle strain. Mr Heathcote advised that OUTBACK BIFF would be sent for an immediate spell.
GENERAL:
Apprentice R. Hurdle was reprimanded for failing to provide a letter of authority.
As G. Cooksley and apprentice M. Speers were ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: IRL DIGGERS MAIDEN PLATE – 1666M
1st – Electrojet 2nd – River Dancing 3rd – Hot Chocolat 4th – Sideshow Summer
The start was delayed when MAKE HAAY (L. Cassidy) dislodged its rider during its preliminary. After galloping some distance, MAKE HAAY was declared a late scratching at 12.57 p.m. All monies invested on MAKE HAAY were ordered to be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
0 cent in the dollar for the Win #2 – ELECTROJET
6 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2 – ELECTROJET
3 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3 – RIVER DANCING
5 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #8 – HOT CHOCOLAT
GENEVA’S OLLIE (A. Butler) overraced in the early stages.
Leaving the 1200m when the pace slackened RIVER DANCING (D. Green) elected to shift wider on the track to improve, obtaining the lead near the 1100m.
TIME HAS COME (R. Jamieson) raced wide for the majority of the event.
HOT CHOCOLAT (G. Geran) hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
Trainer K. Doughty was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of MAJESTIC EXPRESS (C. Munce), which hung out for the majority of the event. A post-race veterinary examination of MAJESTIC EXPRESS revealed lacerations to the back of the off fore and off hind fetlocks.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of ELECTROJET (G. Goold), trainer S. Hardy stated that whilst the gelding had been disappointing in its previous runs, the horse had pleased him leading up to today’s event and he was of the opinion that the step up in distance today and the change in track surface were beneficial to the horse’s performance today, and further that the stable was confident of a better showing. Stewards noted his explanation.
After being dislodged from MAKE HAAY, jockey L. Cassidy was examined by ambulance officers and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
Race 2: PRESTON CPA ACCOUNTING QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 800M
1st – Havasnip 2nd – Swingin’ Dazzler 3rd – Todline 4th – Beautiful Sound
Trainer B. Currie was fined the sum of $100 for failing to produce the Document of Description for LUCY (T. Bell).
The start was delayed when J. Byrne, the rider of MOUNTAIN PROMISE, requested that colt to be examined by the veterinary surgeon on arrival at the barriers. After being examined, MOUNTAIN PROMISE was cleared to start.
The start was further delayed when HAVASNIP (D. Griffin) became fractious in the barriers and was momentarily cast. After being examined by the veterinary surgeon, HAVASNIP was cleared to start.
DOWNTHEMOONIE (G. Geran) began awkwardly and lost ground.
HAVASNIP was slow to begin.
SILVER TEE (B. Stewart) was tightened for room at the start between MINI HUSSLER (P. Keane) and KEEP YOUR HAT ON (J. Taylor), which shifted out.
TODLINE began awkwardly and shifted in making contact with MINI HUSSLER.
SPARKLING SOUND (G. Colless) began awkwardly.
MOUNTAIN PROMISE (J. Byrne) and AVERIL’S SUCCESS (M. Hellyer) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Approaching the 600m HAVASNIP blundered.
HAVASNIP commenced to shift out when placed under pressure over the final 100m.
Correct weight was delayed to ascertain whether there were grounds for the rider of 2nd placegetter SWINGIN’ DAZZLER (R. McMahon) to lodge an objection against HAVASNIP being declared the winner. After hearing submissions from jockey R. McMahon, who advised stewards that his mount had a tendency to shift out and away from HAVASNIP of its own accord, and viewing the patrol film, stewards were satisfied with the result and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.
Race 3: MAX’S BARBER SHOP GOODNA CLASS 1 H’CAP – 800M
1st – Zarmarski 2nd – Lava Corona 3rd – Isabella Esther 4th – Heavens Own
Near the 600m VEYSONNAZ (J. Byrne) blundered.
ZARMARSKI (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of VEYSONNAZ, rider J. Byrne stated that whilst he was disappointed with the gelding’s performance, he was further of the view that it was having its first run back from a spell and he was of the opinion that VEYSONNAZ would be better suited over a longer distance than that of today’s event. Trainer B. Guy agreed with J. Byrne’s assessment. Stewards noted their explanations.
Following this event L. Cassidy and G. Colless were stood down from their remaining engagements by ambulance officers.
Race 4: JUST SPORTS N FITNESS C,G&E MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
1st – In The Genes 2nd – Aussie Agenda 3rd – Writtenintherain 4th – Magni
As M. Vance was to be overweight, S. Drake was substituted as the rider of RED CASHEL. M. Vance was fined $100.
The start was delayed when WRITTENINTHERAIN (R. Hurdle) was reluctant to proceed to the barriers.
RED CASHEL (S. Drake) threw its head in the air on jumping away and lost ground.
EYEFORIT (J. Byrne) raced wide for the majority of the event.
MAGNI (L. Finlay) had a tendency to hang out in the middle stages.
Race 5: CLASSIC SPORTSWEAR F&M MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Single In London 2nd – Grabthemoney’n’run 3rd – Angelic Dream 4th – Dane Margot
As ECCLESIA (D. Green) had not started since January 2010, the mare underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and a further examination upon arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start.
RISE OF THE PHOENIX (P. Keane) was slow to begin.
ANGELIC DREAM (R. McMahon) shifted out at the start making contact with EMPRESS EUGENIE (G. Goold).
DANE MARGOT (K. Fujii) began awkwardly.
TEA AND SCANDAL (D. Griffin) raced wide throughout.
BOUTIQUE HOTEL (B. Stewart) was held up for clear running from rounding the home turn until near the 100m.
Leaving the 200m D. Green, the rider of ECCLESIA, dropped his whip.
Race 6: BROTHERS LEAGUES CLUB IPSWICH CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Solebid 2nd – Regency Royale 3rd – Waranga 4th – Athabasca
Trainer B. Sturgess reported that due to COMMANDING LASS (J. Byrne) being injured on 20 March, it had missed three days training. A pre-race veterinary examination of COMMANDING LASS cleared the horse to start.
SHABUSHI (A. Pattillo) shifted out at the start making contact with GIVE ME ROOM (D. Robinson).
CONHENRI (N. Tomizawa) was slow to begin.
SOLEBID (M. Hellyer) raced wide in the early stages.
ATHABASCA (A. Allen) raced wide throughout.
Near the 1000m SOLEBID shifted out making contact with ATHABASCA.
Near the 700m CONHENRI became unbalanced and shifted in making contact with the hind quarters of TOUCH ME KNOTT (R. Hurdle).
I AM BUT A FOOL (A. Badger) was held up and unable to improve from leaving the 500m until approaching the 200m.
Apprentice T. Bell, the rider of REGENCY ROYALE, was reprimanded for using the whip in a forehand manner in one consecutive stride prior to the 100m.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of THREE MONKEYS, D. Griffin stated that despite travelling comfortably in the early and middle stages the gelding failed to respond to his riding from a point rounding the home turn and in the straight and in his view was very disappointing. He further advised that connections may review the horse’s current racing preparation. Trainer D. Forster expressed her disappointment in the performance and indicated that she would be reviewing the horse’s racing future.
Race 7: ST PETER CLAVER COLLEGE CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Little Antics 2nd – Wild Promises 3rd – Florida Fellow 4th – Miss Mimmick
Trainer L. Baskett was reprimanded for failing to declare M. Hellyer as the rider of BENJI’S WORLD by the prescribed time.
Leaving the 800m LITTLE ANTICS (G. Geran) had to be steadied off the heels of TISANI STAR (T. Bell), which shifted in slightly.
Near the 400m MISS MIMMICK (R. Hurdle) had to be steadied when tightened for room between BENJI’S WORLD (M. Hellyer), which shifted out to avoid the heels of the tiring ZAHA SECRET (S. Drake), and LITTLE ANTICS, which shifted in slightly.
Approaching the 200m ZAHA SECRET shifted out, making contact with MISS MIMMICK.
STRATUM FORCE (M. Gray) had difficulty obtaining clear running leaving the 200m until approaching the 100m.
CARVED IN STONE (R. McMahon) shifted in near the 100m making contact with MYSTIC MAHAL (C. Munce).
On return to scale MISS MIMMICK was found to have bled during the race. Connections were advised that under the provisions of AR. 53A MISS MIMMICK would now incur a mandatory three month ban from racing and before resuming racing, the horse must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.
M. Simpson, the trainer of BEERALLROUND (B. Wallace), which commenced to hang out leaving the 500m and shifted wider on the track rounding the home turn, was advised that the horse must compete in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again.
A veterinary examination of BENJI’S WORLD (M. Hellyer) revealed the colt to be coughing post-race. Trainer L. Baskett was advised that she would be required to have an endoscopic examination carried out on BENJI’S WORLD and furnish the results of that test to the stewards prior to the horse’s next start.
