Race 1: Ipswich Chamber Of Commerce Maiden H'cap – 1700m
1st – Ivan’s Choice 2nd – Devious Man 3rd – Persian Book 4th – Hi Cody

Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer T. Crane for the late declaration of L. Cassidy as the rider of SLICK LAGO.

TALE OF THUNDER (M. Vance) was slow to begin.

SLICK LAGO (L. Cassidy) shifted out at the start and bumped ORDAIN (C. Munce).

PERSIAN BOOK (G. Killen) overraced in the early stages.

Near the 1400m, ECCLESIA (D. Green) began to overrace and improved onto the heels of IVAN’S CHOICE (B. Stewart) and had to be checked. ECCLESIA continued to overrace for some distance thereafter.

GRABTHEMONEY’N’RUN (P. Holmes) raced wide until allowed to improve forward and take up a leading position near the 1000m.

Leaving the 800m, PERSIAN BOOK had to be eased when forced to race in restricted room between ECCLESIA (D. Green) and SLICK LAGO (L. Cassidy).

P. Holmes reported that GRABTHEMONEY’N’RUN hung out for the majority of the race.
Race 2: Sunsuper QTIS 2yo Maiden H'cap – 1350m
1st – Gay Deceiver 2nd – Seastra 3rd – What A Gal 4th – Keep Your Hat On

Approaching the 400m, WHAT A GAL (G. Colless) had to be eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of GAY DECEIVER (P. Holmes), which shifted out. P. Holmes, rider of GAY DECEIVER, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Leaving the 400m, WHAT A GAL shifted out to improve, taking KEEP OUR HAT ON (A. Pattillo) wider.

A. Pattillo, rider of KEEP YOUR HAT ON, dropped his whip near the 300m.

BARGAIN BID (B. Stewart) was obliged to race 3 wide throughout.

Race 3: Bremer Institute of Tafe Class 1 H'cap – 1350m
1st – Spring Rose 2nd – Aspy Bay 3rd – Waltz With You 4th – Daads Order

FIRESTORM, which was injured when being transported to the course, was declared a late scratching by order of stewards on veterinary advice at 12.53 pm.

Shortly after the start, WALTZ WITH YOU (J. Byrne) was tightened for room between NOAHCHENKA (B. Derbyshire) and ASPY BAY (R. Wiggins), which was taken out by SPRING ROSE (G. Colless). At the same stage, DJEBEL’S IMPACT (L. Cassidy) was tightened for room between IRISH GUARD (B. Stewart) and DAADS ORDER (M. Hellyer), which shifted out.

ASPY BAY (R. Wiggins) was held up rounding the home turn.

DAADS ORDER was obliged to race wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on NOACHENKA, particularly rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight, B. Derbyshire stated that she was instructed not to lead on the gelding as it was having its first start from a lengthy spell. She added that she was reluctant to place NOACHENKA under full pressure rounding the home turn as she had been instructed to wait until the horse was balanced upon straightening before placing it under full pressure. B. Derbyshire further added that when she placed NOACHENKA under pressure upon straightening, WALTZ WITH YOU had improved to her outside and as a result she was obliged to ease her mount from the heels of DAADS ORDER (M. Hellyer) near the 200m and was then further obliged to shift in in an endeavour to obtain clear running over the concluding stages. Trainer T. Brooks confirmed the instructions, particularly the fact that NOACHENKA in previous starts had become unbalanced rounding the home turn on this track. Mr Brooks added that he was satisfied with the tactics adopted by apprentice Derbyshire. Stewards advised apprentice Derbyshire that in future she must make every effort to obtain clear running, particularly at critical stages off the race. Stewards further advised apprentice Derbyshire they believed she had erred on this occasion in not looking to improve whilst rounding the home turn, however taking into account her relative inexperience, did not believe she had erred to the extent as to be culpable under the Rules of Racing.

Following this race the track rating was downgraded to Dead 4 retrospective.

Race 4: Apprenticeships Queensland Maiden H'cap – 1100m
1st –Fume Blanc 2nd – Hitman Harry 3rd – Cougar Fish 4th - Fouardeeson

FUME BLANC (G. Colless) began awkwardly and lost ground.

WILL HE FLY (L. Williams) and LOVE SHINES (P. Keane) were slow to begin.

VICTORIA NILE (L. Cassidy) hung out rounding the home turn.

MRS MACGILLYCUDDY (P. Schmidt) was held up approaching and rounding the home turn when awkwardly placed at the heels of PRIME QUEST (G. Killen).

FOUARDEESON (S. Galloway) was held up rounding the home turn and upon straightening was disappointed for a run between GRANDMA SNEEZY (T. Bell) and VICTORIA NILE and was then held up until a point leaving the 200m where FOUARDEESON was able to shift to the outside of VICTORIA NILE to improve.

Near the 150m, QUEEN ROSE (A. Spinks) had to be eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of GRANDMA SNEEZY (T. Bell), which shifted in marginally.

HITMAN HARRY (M. Cahill), COUGAR FISH (A. Hearn) and WILL HE FLY (L. Williams) raced wide throughout.

Following this race the track rating was downgraded to Dead 5.

Race 5: QT – Tradies Expo 2 Day Spectacular Class 1 H'cap – 2170m
1st – White City 2nd – Cuban 3rd – Stop Crying 4th - Cashgah

STOP CRYING (G. Colless) began awkwardly and lost ground.

Approaching the 400m, STOP CRYING (G. Colless) had to be eased when tightened for room between EASTERN DREAMS (L. Cassidy) and CUBAN (D. Green),which shifted out under pressure. D. Green, rider of CUBAN, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Near the 200m UNTOWARD (C. Munce) shifted out under pressure and bumped STOP CRYING.

CASHGAH (J. Byrne) was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

When questioned as to the disappointing performance of LAVISH LIFESTYLE, S. Galloway stated that despite travelling comfortably in the early and middle stages, the filly was under pressure from a point leaving the 800m and as a result failed to finish the race off as expected. Jockey Galloway was of the opinion that LAVISH LIFESTYLE may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer J. Wallace agreed with jockey Galloway’s comments and confirmed that the filly would now be sent for a spell. A post race veterinary examination of LAVISH LIFESTYLE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of EASTERN DREAMS revealed the horse had pulled up lame in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for EASTERN DREAMS prior to its next race start.

Race 6: Construction Skills Qld Class 2 H'cap – 1700m
1st – Retracted 2nd - More Dust 3rd – Backup Plan 4th - Lagonissi

The star was delayed when MR TRACEY had to be resaddled behind the barriers. The start was further delayed when EPIC FAITH was fractious in the barriers.

EL VIVO (B. Richardson) began awkwardly and then shifted out abruptly, losing considerable ground.

Both MR TRACEY (M. Hellyer) and EL VIVO (B. Richardson) raced wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to take up forward positions near the 1000m.

Leaving the 600m, RETRACTED (S. Galloway) became awkward for a short distance when held up on the heels of MR TRACEY (M. Hellyer).

MR TRACEY was momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

Upon straightening RETRACTED shifted out and bumped LAGONISSI (L. Cassidy).

STALWART WOMAN (J. Hoopert) raced wide for the majority of the race.

GALAXY KING lost its near fore plate in running.

Following this race the track rating was downgraded to Slow 6.

Race 7: City of Ipswich Class 2 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Golden Cygnet 2nd – Karisha 3rd – Eddie Bidder 4th - Setheworldonfire

The start was delayed when EDDIE BIDDER proved difficult to load.

TYCOON TERROR (K. Yoshida) was slow to begin and then slow to muster speed in the early stages of the race.

TYCOON TERROR, HANDBAG (A. Spinks) and MISS LEIBERT (J. Byrne) raced wide throughout.

D. Missen reported that WHISPERING DEATH overraced in the middle stages of the event. He was of the opinion that a combination of the gelding overracing and being first up today from a spell had contributed to its failure to finish the race off as expected.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TYCOON TERROR, jockey K. Yoshida stated that despite his efforts, the gelding was slow to muster speed in the early stages after beginning only fairly. As a consequence, TYCOON TERROR was forced to settle further back in the field than anticipated. He added that from that position he was obliged to race wide in the middle stages and was forced extremely wide rounding the home turn. The only tangible explanation jockey Yoshida was able to offer for the poor performance was that TYCOON TERROR was not comfortable racing in a rearward position which was in contrast to its normal pattern of racing. Trainer M. Nolan will be interviewed at a later date regarding the performance of TYCOON TERROR. A post race veterinary examination of TYCOON TERROR failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
