From Gatton, 10.11.12

Trainer R. Smith reported that TENT HARMONY had pulled up well subsequent to its disappointing performance and was of the opinion that the horse did not handle the prevailing track conditions. She added that she would continue with the racing program for TENT HARMONY but would look to place the horse in races on firmer going.

Race 1: Ipswich City Bulls Old Boys Maiden H'cap – 1100m
1st – Hollywood Princess 2nd – All Our Wives 3rd – Good Two Dream 4th – Shadowy Past

OUTBACK PRIDE was examined by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers after he was concerned with its hind leg action. The gelding was subsequently cleared to start.

JUST PINK (G. Killen) was tightened for room on jumping away between SHADOWY PAST (J. Johnson) and SAILOR’S FANCY (M. Hellyer), both of which shifted ground. JUST PINK was further tightened shortly after the start between SAILOR’S FANCY and SHADOWY PAST, which continued to shift out despite the efforts of its rider.

SAILOR’S FANCY raced greenly in the early stages.

ALL OUR WIVES (R. Jamieson) laid out making the home turn.

Race 2: Atomic Sports & Leisurewear Maiden H'cap – 800m
1st – One Lion 2nd – Artalo 3rd – Dangerous Edition 4th – Hidden Starlet

SUNDAY BONNET (S. Drake) was slow to begin.

Near the 600m, HIDDEN STARLET (P. Hammersley) and SHELOVESTOROCKET (D. Tanti) bumped.

Shortly after the start, MISS TYPIN (M. O’Brien) was tightened for room between HOT DAPPER (G. Killen) and WALTER (M. Hellyer), which shifted out.

Approaching the 600m, JAYNNAH (M. Palmer) had to be steadied when tightened for room by ARTALO (M. Cahill), which shifted in. M. Cahill, rider of ARTALO, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

MAJOR BLOT (J. Johnson) hung out rounding the home turn and near the 500m had to be steadied from the heels of JAYNNAH (M. Palmer). A post race veterinary examination of MAJOR BLOT failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer P. Moncrieff was advised that a warning would be placed on MAJOR BLOT regarding its racing manners. Mr Moncrieff advised stewards that in light of today’s performance he would now send MAJOR BLOT for a spell.

WALTER hung out for the majority of the race. Trainer B. Robinson was advised that a warning would be placed on horse regarding its racing manners. B. Robinson further added that he would now experiment with gear changes prior to the gelding’s next start.

DANGEROUS EDITION (J. Stanley), TAT’S IMAGE (D. Green) and MISS TYPIN raced wide throughout.

Race 3: Phil’s Car Radios QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Red Hot Dazzler 2nd – Cornered 3rd – General Kingsman 4th – Niho Hulihan

The following change of tactics were notified to stewards by the respective connections. NOTHING TO BURN would be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit, and that STAMP OF AUTHORITY, which positioned forward last start, would be ridden with cover today. NOTHING TO BURN was ridden accordingly, and STAMP OF AUTHORITY settled midfield without cover, however after being caught wide, improved its position from the 600m.

MR DODO, which proved difficult to pull up in the preliminary, underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to start.

Leaving the 900m, MR DODO (L. Cassidy), when overracing, had to be steadied from the heels of RED HOT DAZZLER (R. McMahon), which shifted in. MR DODO continued to overrace for some distance following this and when being restrained, GIANOVA (R. Goltz) improved on to that horse’s heels and was obliged to shift wider on the track and raced wide from that point onwards.

Near the 800m, KENTAUR (M. Palmer) overraced at the heels of SPINNING HEART (J. Taylor) and lost ground when having to be steadied.

Both KENTAUR and SPINNING HEART were inclined to hang out in the middle stages.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey Michael Palmer regarding the tactics employed on CORNERED, which raced in a more forward position today as compared to previous starts. Jockey Palmer advised he was not given specific instructions on how to ride the gelding in the race. He added that he did not believe there was a lot of speed drawn inside him and after beginning well, rode forward in an endeavour to obtain a position with cover just behind the leaders. Jockey Palmer added that after doing this he was unable to clear runners to his inside and would have been caught deep on the track, so he continued to ride forward on CORNERED to gain a position closer to the fence. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 4: Danneal Builders Class 1 H'cap – 1100m
1st – Boss Bart 2nd – The Zedhorse 3rd – Fine Gold 4th - Tamamushi

THE ZEDHORSE (R. Goltz) and COCO BABY (B. Derbyshire) were slow to begin.

VERY SOVERRE (B. Hodder) began awkwardly and made contact with the near side barrier partition and lost ground.

FINE GOLD (T. Harrison) began awkwardly.

JUST A ROCKSTAR (A. Pattillo) raced ungenerously in the early stages.

KISSING TYPE (J. Johnson) had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100m and went to the line without being fully tested.

REGENCY ROYALE (J. Byrne) raced wide throughout.

Apprentice B. Hodder reported that VERY SOVERRE did not appreciate the firm track conditions today.

Race 5: Zupps Bus & Truck Centres Class 1 H'cap – 1100m
1st – Bundy 2nd – La Flash 3rd – Ahsoka Tano 4th - Taleofthecentury

Leaving the 800m, ZAHAVAH (J. Byrne) improved onto the heels of JADE ANGEL (M. O’Brien) and shifted wider on the track. ZAHAVAH raced wide from that point onwards.

Approaching the home turn, ZAHAVAH again had to be steadied when inclined to lay in behind the heels of GRAND ELEGANCE (C. Eaton).

After entering the straight, ZAHAVAH was again forced to shift wider on the track to improve when GRAND ELEGANCE shifted out forward of him.

L. Morrison, rider of AHSOKA TANO, reported that her whip broke on entering the home straight and was unable to fully test her mount in the run to the finish.

Race 6: Winston Glades Car & Dog Wash Class 3 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Red Hot Hussler 2nd – Athabasca 3rd – Ruby Qualo 4th – Aspy Bay

Approaching the home turn, RUBY QUALO (J. Byrne) shifted out around the heels of RED HOT HUSSLER (M. Palmer) to improve and in doing so made contact with STRATUM FORCE (L. Rolls) and became unbalanced, resulting in J. Byrne, rider of RUBY QUALO, losing the use of his off-side stirrup iron for a short distance. As a result of this shift from RUBY QUALO, ATHABASCA (G. Goold) was able to obtain a run to its inside rounding the home turn.

A post race veterinary examination of UNPUBLISHED CRITIC, which raced wide throughout and compounded over the concluding stages, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 7: Ipswich City Bulls FC Class 1 H'cap – 1666m
1st – Nuits St Georges 2nd – Toboraigh Star 3rd – Grab The Loot 4th – Chico Bonito

Trainer T. Sears was fined $100 for engaging P. Hammersley as the rider of HUSHOFEXPECTATION when P. Hammersley had already been notified as the rider of MOOCHIN.

Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view footage of the start to ascertain if VOODOO BLACK MAGIC was afforded a fair start after the gelding reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Stewards were satisfied that VOODOO BLACK MAGIC was afforded the opportunity to jump with the field and subsequently declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. Subsequently, Mr C. Gant, representing trainer L. Ross, was advised that VOODOO BLACK MAGIC would be required to trial satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start.

VOODOO BLACK MAGIC overraced in the early and middle stages.

Rounding the home turn, CHICO BONITO (M. Cahill) was held up when awkwardly placed at the heels of BACH (R. Jamieson). TOBORAIGH STAR (B. Appo), which was following, was held up for clear running as a result.

TAYSTAR (G. Killen), GRAB THE LOOT (S. Bogenhuber) and RUNNING SOLO (B. Derbyshire) raced wide for the majority of the race.

S.Bogenhuber, rider of 3RD placegetter, GRAB THE LOOT, pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to ride her mount right out to the finish line. S. Bogenhuber was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 3 weeks, to commence at midnight, 24 November and to expire at midnight, 15 December 2012. In assessing penalty, stewards were of the opinion that S. Bogenhuber’s actions cost GRAB THE LOOT 2nd placing.

When questioned regarding the performance of HUSHOFEXPECTATION, R. McMahon stated that the colt performed best when afforded clear running, and that after being momentarily held up approaching the home turn, HUSHOFEXPECTATION was only able to finish the race off fairly and, in his opinion, was disappointing. Trainer T. Sears advised that in light of the horse’s performance today, HUSHOFEXPECTATION would now be sent for a spell.

P. Hammersley (MOOCHIN) was fined $200 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.
