As G. Colless was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: GEORGE’S GARAGE ROSEWOOD MAIDEN H’CAP – 1690M
1st – Papa Gee 2nd – Neurum Road 3rd – I’m Adamant 4th – Getthepartystarted
GRACE WITH FIRE (R. Jamieson) was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to the start and was cleared to race.
PAPA GEE (T. Harrison), COURT HABIT (J. Byrne), I’M ADAMANT (R. McMahon) and MISS WARREGO (D. Tanti) were all tightened for room on jumping away between GETTHEPARTYSTARTED (M. Cahill), which shifted out, and NEURUM ROAD (G. Goold), which began awkwardly and shifted in. I’M ADAMANT and MISS WARREGO lost ground as a result.
Near the 500m NEURUM ROAD shifted in making contact with the running rail. GETTHEPARTYSTARTED, which was following, shifted out abruptly, making contact with I’M ADAMANT, which shifted out. MISS WARREGO and GRACE WITH FIRE, which were following, were also inconvenienced in this incident.
GRACE WITH FIRE raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: KAYSUELLE FASHIONS ROSEWOOD QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
1st – Powerful Jet 2nd – A Tad Apart 3rd – Cock A Hoop 4th – Love You Libby
Trainer R. Maund was fined $100 for failing to declare J. Byrne as the rider of IF HE DON’T by the prescribed time.
RED THRILLER (M. Cahill) began very awkwardly and shifted out making contact with its outside barrier gate.
BLESS THIS ROSE (R. Jamieson) began awkwardly and lost ground.
BLESS THIS ROSE raced greenly for the majority of the event.
COCK A HOOP (R. McMahon) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 300m BLESS THIS ROSE, which was racing greenly, shifted out around the heels of IF HE DON’T (J. Byrne) and then commenced to hang out, inconveniencing FAMOUS GROUSE (L. Rolls).
Race 3: RIVER CITY STEEL FABRICATIONS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 2180M
1st – Non Dimenticar 2nd – Wisp O’ Will 3rd – Episode Star 4th – Kenamon Belle
EPISODE STAR (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin.
BACH (L. Rolls) overraced in the early stages.
MAGIC OPTION (J. Taylor) hung out near the 1100m.
As a result of the slow pace NON DIMENTICAR (R. Jamieson) had to be steadied off the heels of DOZING STAMPEDE (T. Harrison) on a number of occasions in the back straight and approaching the 800m, when improving on to that runner’s heels, had to be checked.
Approaching the 100m DAYUAN (C. Whiteley) became unbalanced when buffeted for room between KENAMON BELLE (D. Griffin), which shifted out slightly, and SHIMAZU (M. Cahill), which shifted in under pressure. M. Cahill was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on DOZING STAMPEDE, which led today, which was in contrast to the horse’s previous racing pattern, apprentice T. Harrison stated that she had no specific instructions, however if the horse did begin well from its wide draw that she was not to fight the horse which could possibly cause it to overrace. She added that after beginning well she believed DOZING STAMPEDE found the lead without being pressured, and with the lack of pace in the race, raced comfortably. Trainer R. Milne confirmed the instructions and said that whilst it was not the intention for the mare to lead today, he felt from the wide barrier apprentice Harrison may have been a victim of circumstances. He added that DOZING STAMPEDE has raced in forward positions earlier in her preparation. After considering all the circumstances stewards noted their explanations.
KENAMON BELLE and DOZING STAMPEDE lost their near fore plates in running.
Race 4: CLARKS INDUSTRIAL CONTRACTING MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
1st – Jet Ace 2nd – Desperate Dan 3rd – Flying Lamborgini 4th – Hard Ticker
When arriving at the barriers NICE RED (J. Taylor) took charge of its rider and dislodged J. Taylor. After being inspected by the veterinary surgeon, NICE RED was cleared to start. J. Taylor advised that he was free of injury.
DESPERATE DAN (R. Jamieson) blundered on jumping away and shifted out inconveniencing STORM MARAUDER (J. Johnson).
MALAWI LAKE (B. Appo) began awkwardly.
OPTIMISTIC ANGEL (M. McKenzie) blundered on jumping away.
JET ACE (R. McMahon) shifted out at the start brushing NICE RED.
Leaving the 800m SWEET DISORDER (L. Morrison) blundered.
DESPERATE DAN and SWEET DISORDER raced wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 300m SWEET DISORDER shifted in under pressure, making contact with GREEN PRETTY (P. Holmes).
Near the 100m JET ACE shifted out under pressure.
Race 5: RAY WHITE IPSWICH CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1690M
1st – Utmost Faith 2nd – Skate On By 3rd – Cubic Inches 4th – Pack The Bags
BINRASY (R. Jamieson) blundered on jumping away.
CUBIC INCHES (S. Galloway) was slow to begin.
UTMOST FAITH (L. Cassidy) began awkwardly and shifted in making contact with EXCELLENT DANE (M. Hellyer).
MORE DUST (J. Byrne) overraced in the early stages.
Approaching the 1300m SHARMA (M. Cahill) shifted in, making contact with the running rail, becoming unbalanced and very awkward in its action for a short distance. SHARMA then overraced for some distance thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination of SHARMA revealed the gelding had sustained a laceration to the off fore cannon.
SUPA MEGA DEADLY (R. McMahon) overraced in the early and middle stages and near the 1400m had to be steadied from the heels of PACK THE BAGS (P. Hammersley) for some distance.
Leaving the 900m SUPA MEGA DEADLY again improved on to the heels of PACK THE BAGS and had to be steadied.
Apprentice R. Jamieson (BINRASY) dropped her whip near the 400m.
Rider M. Hellyer reported to stewards following the event that EXCELLENT DANE hung throughout the event and raced wide and as a result of its racing manners he was unable to place the horse under any pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of EXCELLENT DANE revealed no significant findings. Trainer L. Treloar’s stable representative, Ms Lambert, was advised that EXCELLENT DANE must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.
BINRASY lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 6: RECRUITMENT QUEENSLAND CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Outback Biff 2nd – Universal Hat 3rd – Cousine Island 4th – Countach
OUTBACK BIFF (Matthew Palmer) was tightened for room on jumping away between MAGINNIS MAGEE (S. Drake) and SHINER (J. King), both of which shifted ground.
LITTLE MRS MURPHY (M. Hellyer) began awkwardly and shifted out.
ACTING KING (M. Cahill) jumped out at the start making contact with COUSINE ISLAND (R. Jamieson), which in turn shifted out making contact with COUNTACH (P. Hammersley).
ACTING KING and COUNTACH overraced in the early and middle stages.
SHINER and TISANI STAR (T. Harrison) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Leaving the 800m COUNTACH, which was hanging, shifted wider on the track, forcing TISANI STAR wider.
Near the 300m COUSINE ISLAND was disappointed for a run between COUNTACH and SHINER, which shifted out. Apprentice J. King (SHINER) was advised to show greater care.
Approaching the 50m COUNTACH shifted in, making contact with COUSINE ISLAND.
Trainer M. Dunn’s stable representative was advised that a warning was being placed on the racing manners of COUNTACH which hung for the majority of the race.
Jockey L. Morrison was fined $300 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram over her allotted weight on UNIVERSAL HAT.
Race 7: SKY RACING CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Bastille Knight 2nd – Seastra 3rd – Henman 4th – Brave Palatinsk
KERCHINGS, which was injured whilst in transit to the course, was declared a late scratching at 3.20 p.m.
BRAVE PALATINSK (J. Johnson) and MISTER TIPS (A. Taylor) began awkwardly.
OAKFIELD BABE (J. King) began awkwardly and shifted in bumping HENMAN (P. Hammersley).
Shortly after the start PUKEKURA BOY (C. Eaton) and FIRM BUT FAIR (Matthew Palmer) were tightened for room between BASTILLE KNIGHT (M. Cahill) and SEASTRA (J. Byrne), which shifted out.
IRISH GIG (M. Hellyer) commenced to overrace leaving the 1200m for a short distance and had to be steadied from the heels of WARSHIP (R. Jamieson).
SHE WHO KNOWS (S. Galloway) and IRISH GIG raced wide for the majority of the event.
Near the 1000m MISTER TIPS and SEASTRA were tightened for room by SHE WHO KNOWS which was overracing and shifted in and away from WARSHIP, which shifted in. A short distance later SHE WHO KNOWS had to be steadied to avoid the heels of WARSHIP, which shifted in. Apprentice R. Jamieson, the rider of WARSHIP, was reprimanded. In this incident HOT CHOCOLAT (L. Morrison), which was following, had to be steadied from the heels of SHE WHO KNOWS.
When questioned jockey S. Galloway stated that after suffering interference near the 1000m SHE WHO KNOWS was forced to race wide for the remainder of the event. S. Galloway added that rounding the home turn he was taken wider on the track when HENMAN improved to his inside, however SHE WHO KNOWS failed to finish the race off as expected. Jockey Galloway was of the view that SHE WHO KNOWS may have failed to handle the step up in distance from 1100m to 1350m today.
C. Eaton, the rider of PUKEKURA BOY, reported that after suffering interference at the start the gelding raced back in the field and failed to run on.
