Race 1: BENDIGO BANK CLASS 1 H’CAP – 800M
1st – All But Grey 2nd – Innisvale 3rd – Lillabelle 4th – Hide ‘N’ Seek

DANGEROUS EDITION (B. Derbyshire) was a late scratching at 12.57 p.m. by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice that the gelding had sustained a laceration to its off hind leg and was lame. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on DANGEROUS EDITION be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

20 cents in the dollar for the Win – ALL BUT GREY
18 cents in the dollar for place of winner - ALL BUT GREY
15 cents in the dollar for 2nd place - INNISVALE
22 cents in the dollar for 3rd place – LILLABELLE

Correct weight was delayed due to a malfunction in the semaphore board, which showed incorrect placings for 3rd and 4th. After confirmation of the correct placings, correct weight was given on the Judge’s declared placings of 5, 1, 11 and 10.

BAROQUE STAR (K. Gates) and INNISVALE (G. Goold) were slow to begin.

ZATSACAT (T. Bell) put its head down as the start was effected and began awkwardly and shifted in brushing TROPHY HUNTER (L. Cheshire).

Rounding the home turn TROPHY HUNTER commenced to lay out, making contact with ZATSACAT, which raced wide for the majority of the event.

Near the 150m TROPHY HUNTER again laid out under pressure, making contact with ZATSACAT.

Race 2: REALWAY YAMANTO MAIDEN PLATE – 1666M
1st – As We Go By 2nd – Just Swell 3rd – Renierae 4th – Trick Tronic

TRICK TRONIC (S. Bogenhuber) shifted out at the start, making contact with JUST SWELL (T. Bell), which in turn shifted out making contact with KING OF FLORENCE (L. Cassidy), which was slow to begin.

STAR SEQUALO (M. McKenzie) raced wide in the early stages.

When questioned regarding the performance of KING OF FLORENCE, jockey L. Cassidy was at a loss to offer any explanation however indicated that he was very disappointed with the horse’s performance. Trainer P. Balzen stated that he would review the horse’s current preparation and give consideration to stepping the horse up in distance. Mr Balzen was advised that in view of the horse’s performance, a warning would be placed on the horse. A post-race veterinary examination of KING OF FLORENCE revealed no abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of STAR SEQUALO, which finished some distance tailed off, revealed no significant findings. Trainer L. Weston was advised that the nomination of STAR SEQUALO would be refused at TAB meetings until such time as the filly was able to show improved performances at country meetings.

Race 3: SWICH ON F&M MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Hay Jemmily 2nd – Give It Berries 3rd – Royale Crown 4th – Demival

Trainer S. Lawlor advised that from the wide barrier, JUST A SPLASH (M. McKenzie) would be ridden near the rear of the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.

Connections advised that the intention will be to have JUNGIRA (R. Wiggins) ridden in a forward position in today’s event. The horse was ridden accordingly.

JO’S LUCK (T. Harrison) blundered at the start and was then inconvenienced by I SQUARED (G. Colless), which jumped outwards.

SURLY TEMPLE (N. Evans) began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with JUST A SPLASH.

ARMELLE (D. Green) and HIDDEN DANCER (M. Cahill) were slow to begin.

JUNGIRA, LEFT OVER (L. Cheshire) and JUST A SPLASH raced wide for the majority of the event.

Near the 700m JO’S LUCK improved on to the heels of GIVE IT BERRIES (R. Myers) and had to be steadied.

Apprentice T. Harrison reported on returning to scale that JO’S LUCK hung for a major portion of the race and shifted wider on the track. Trainer C. Allardyce was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners.

HIDDEN DANCER hung rounding the home turn, shifting wider on the track. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners.

Race 4: IPSWICH JETS C,G&E MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Elmantosh 2nd – Summers On The Run 3rd – General Son 4th – Prince Dat

The start of this race was delayed to allow a track inspection to be conducted following a heavy downpour. As a consequence, the track was downgraded to DEAD 5 at 2.40 p.m.

As G. Colless was to be overweight, D. Green was substituted as the rider of A DIAMOND. G. Colless was fined $200.

READ ALL ABOUT ME (Michael Palmer) and ELMANTOSH (P. Hammersley) made contact on jumping away.

NORTHERN CULTURE (G. Goold) and BUNDU BOY (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.

SUMMERS ON THE RUN (T. Bell) and SIPAHI (L. Cassidy) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the poor performance of DR BENJAMIN, rider Matthew Palmer stated that he felt the gelding was awkward in its action and as a result of this eased the horse out of the race leaving the 700m. A post-race veterinary examination of DR BENJAMIN revealed the gelding to be showing soreness in its off front leg. Trainer B. Costello was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance before the horse would be permitted to race again.

Race 5: SCHULZ’S WHOLESALE MEATS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1110M
1st – Smakatus 2nd – Nosealot 3rd – Flight Command 4th – Karisha

Stewards acceded to a request from trainer P. Sexton to scratch GIMMEMORE (2.54 p.m.) due to the track downgrade to DEAD 5.

SAVAGE YOUNG BLOND (L. Cassidy) began awkwardly.

SMAKATUS (J. Stanley) and VAMPIRELLA (R. Jamieson) were tightened for room on jumping away between FALLFORME (G. Colless) and VAIN DAZZLER (G. Goold), which shifted out.
UNIVERSAL HAT (S. Bogenhuber) raced wide for the majority of the event.

KARISHA (T. Harrison) was held up for clear running from the 300m until approaching the 100m.

G. Colless reported to stewards that FALLFORME travelled well in the early stages of the event, however when placed under pressure did not appreciate the prevailing track conditions.

Following the running of this race, and after further heavy rain had fallen, the track was downgraded to SLOW 7.



Race 6: EMEAT CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
1st – Black Leg 2nd – Todline 3rd – Desperate Dan 4th – My Mirage

NOBLE BLOOD (D. McWhinney) was slow to begin.

SIR JOEL (R. Jamieson) began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped ALWAYS DREAMIN’ (Michael Palmer) and lost ground.

Apprentice T. Harrison, the rider of REGENCY ROYALE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 900m she permitted her mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of MY MIRAGE (K. Gates), which shifted in to avoid the heels of REGENCY ROYALE and tightened the running of SINGLE IN LONDON (T. Bell), which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Apprentice Harrison’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday, 30 December 2012, and expire at midnight on Thursday, 10 January 2013.

Race 7: SCHULZ’S AUSTRALIAN EXPORTS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1500M
1st – Sweet And Vicious 2nd – Marc The Magpie/A Tad Apart 4th – Soul Crusade

Trainer D. Murphy will be interviewed at a later date regarding the reason for the late scratching of WISHMORE at 8.10 a.m.

After stewards consulted with trainers and riders regarding the condition of the track crossing leaving the 1600m, the distance of this event was reduced from 1666m to 1500m.

At the start A TAD APART (T. Bell) was tightened for room between DON’T WALK AWAY (M. Cahill) and CAPTAIN FASTBUCK (J. Lloyd), which shifted out.

SLICK LAGO (P. Hammersley) began awkwardly.

CAPTAIN FASTBUCK overraced in the early stages.

On returning to scale apprentice G. Goold reported that in his opinion SOUL CRUSADE was not comfortable in today’s track conditions.
