SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Eagle Farm Saturday 20 April 2013 – Race 3: Stewards today concluded an inquiry with trainer T. Cotsiopoulos regarding PETRANI being presented on course for its race with a puncture wound to the nearside neck. After having the opportunity of examining the treatment records, which indicated that PETRANI was injected with vitamins on the Thursday prior to the race, and obtaining the clear results of the swab samples, no direct action was taken against trainer T. Cotsiopoulos. Stewards did, however, advise her that in the future she is to take all precautions to present horses without the signs of recent treatment being evident.
Race 1: MAYORESS COMMUNITY SUPPORT CHARITY MAIDEN H’CAP – 1530M
After exercising his option to view the stewards' patrol footage, J. Byrne, the rider of BY ORDER, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against JUST A GAZE (M. Cahill) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 50m. After viewing the film and taking evidence from all parties, stewards established that leaving the 50m JUST A GAZE shifted in marginally and made contact with BY ORDER, however bearing in mind the momentum of JUST A GAZE at this point of the race, the interference and its proximity to the winning post, as well as the margin of a half head separating both horses at the finish, stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge's placings.
QUAD (R. Wiggins) was slow to begin.
KYZYLKUM (A. Coome) shifted out at the start and made contact with BY ORDER (J. Byrne).
KYZYLKUM raced wide throughout.
Near the 700m DR STRANGELOVE (G. Colless) improved on to the heels of CRUSADER RABBIT (Michael Palmer) and shifted out making heavy contact with TRUSTED LOVE (A. Pattillo), which resulted in both horses becoming unbalanced for a short distance.
JUST A GAZE was held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
JUST A GAZE was inclined to hang in in the straight and leaving the 200m had to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running.
Near the 150m BY ORDER shifted in under pressure and made contact with DOUBLE ROSE (R. Jamieson).
G. Colless was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the poor performance of DR STRANGELOVE today. A post-race veterinary examination of DR STRANGELOVE revealed no abnormalities, and a swab sample was taken.
Race 2: DOM ROSA AUTO REPAIRS, LISMORE NSW MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
As B. Stewart advised that he would be unable to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement on PAPAL APPOINTMENT, P. Hammersley was substituted as the rider of that runner. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by B. Stewart for his late arrival on course.
BOLTS'N'HOLTS (J. Byrne) shifted out at the start, making contact with SHIRLIELLE (G. Colless).
Near the 1000m RASTEIRA (T. Harrison) was tightened between WINNING FASHIONS (B. Appo) and BOLTS'N'HOLTS, which commenced to hang out and race ungenerously. BOLTS'N'HOLTS again hung out near the 800m and shifted out across the heels of WINNING FASHIONS. As a result, RASTEIRA, which was racing to the outside of BOLTS'N'HOLTS, was forced wider on the track. BOLTS'N'HOLTS and RASTEIRA both raced wide from this point onwards. A post-race veterinary examination of BOLTS'N'HOLTS revealed no abnormalities. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of BOLTS'N'HOLTS.
For some distance approaching and rounding the home turn PATENT PENDING (T. Bell) was held up and unable to secure clear running.
KURRAJONG DRAGON (M. Hellyer) was held up rounding the home turn.
KURRAJONG DRAGON was inclined to lay in in the home straight, resulting in its rider being unable to fully test his mount over the concluding stages.
Race 3: MAX'S BARBER SHOP, GOODNA CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M
ISIS FLYER (G. Colless) underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers when it was noticed the filly had blood in its mouth, and was subsequently cleared to start.
DANCING AL (D. Green) began awkwardly and shifted in hampering WARSHIP (B. Appo).
CERVANCE (R. Ride) overraced in the early stages and near the 1100m had to be momentarily steadied when tightened for room between NIGHT GAMBLER (B. Stewart) and SUZANNE (R. Jamieson), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
CABALLO RAPIDO (M. Cahill) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Leaving the 500m SUZANNE had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of NIGHT GAMBLER. SUZANNE then shifted out making contact with CABALLO RAPIDO. As a result of this shift, CERVANCE, ROCK STYLE and BONTEENA (G. Goold), which were following, were forced to race wider on the track.
ALANGEJACK (J. Byrne) and SUZANNE were held up rounding the home turn.
M. Cahill (CABALLO RAPIDO) dropped his whip at the top of the straight.
Shortly after entering the home straight WARSHIP had to be steadied when tightened between the tiring MIDNIGHT ACE (J. Johnson) which shifted out, and SUZANNE, which was taken in slightly by LIKE A BIRD (K. Yoshida).
Near the 100m WARBIRD (P. Hammersley) shifted in under pressure resulting in ALANGEJACK, which was following, having to shift to the outside of that runner's heels to obtain clear running.
Race 4: CLASSIC SPORTSWEAR QTIS 3YO H’CAP – 2200M
Connections advised stewards that it would be the intention to have PAPA GEE (T. Harrison) ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
VERALINI (M. Cahill) was slow to begin.
Leaving the 2000m VERALINI shifted in and away from ZAGAMI (A. Butler) and made contact with the running rail and became awkward for several strides. At a subsequent inquiry it was established that this was a result of ZAGAMI shifting in and away from MISHANI EDGE (M. Speers), which shifted in. M. Speers was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
DESERT RULER (T. Bell) and VERALINI raced wide in the middle stages.
PAT'S BOY (P. Hammersley) raced wide for the majority of the event.
A post-race veterinary examination of VERALINI, which performed below market expectations, revealed the horse to be exhibiting a cough. Trainer K. Doughty was advised that the results of an endoscopic examination of VERALINI must be produced prior to the horse's next start.
L. Cassidy reported that it was his intention to position TRAKSTAR in a midfield position today, however after being caught wide early, he continued to ride forward in an attempt to obtain a position closer to the rail, which resulted in him racing in a forward position today.
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of THE LAST SHOWER, M. Palmer stated that the filly travelled well throughout the run but when placed under pressure approaching the home turn failed to respond to his riding and only found the line fairly. A post-race veterinary examination of THE LAST SHOWER revealed no significant findings.
MISHANI EDGE sprung its near fore plate in running.
Race 5: BROTHERS LEAGUES CLUB IPSWICH CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1700M
NOBLE JESTER (T. Bell) was slow to begin.
DODGING EDDIE (M. Cahill) was buffeted shortly after the start between RETUNE (A. Pattillo) and MANSFIELD PARK (J. Morris), which shifted in after beginning awkwardly.
AROUSING SUSPICION (B. Evans) overraced in the early stages when attempting to obtain a position with cover behind DEFAULT (R. Jamieson).
PURRINGA (T. Harrison) raced wide for the majority of the event.
RETUNE shifted wider on the track to improve near the 700m and in doing so forced MANSFIELD PARK (J. Morris) wider. MANSFIELD PARK then faltered at this point of the race and was eased out of the event by its rider. A post-race veterinary examination of MANSFIELD PARK revealed the gelding to have fractured its near fore sesamoid. MANSFIELD PARK was euthanased on humane grounds.
Stewards sought an explanation from B. Evans regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of AROUSING SUSPICION today. Jockey Evans stated that the instructions were to be positive out of the barriers so as not to be caught in a midfield position on the gelding. He stated that the gelding travelled well throughout the run, however when a run presented at the top of the straight AROUSING SUSPICION was unable to accelerate through that run. He added that the horse finished the race off well but was unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages when disappointed for a run.
When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of TAYSTAR, trainer I. Duke explained that he believed the gelding's last start at Burrandowan was a good performance as it made up many lengths from the tail of the field to run 3rd. He stated that prior to the horse's poor performance at Doomben, TAYSTAR had been racing well, which included a winning performance over 1800m at the Gold Coast on Saturday, 6 April 2013. He added that the gelding had been working well and he was confident of a forward showing today. Stewards noted his explanation.
Race 6: JETTS FITNESS GOODNA F&M CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M
PRISCILLA'S STAR was a late scratching at 9.45 am for veterinary reasons.
FOMAL PRINCESS was a late scratching at 3.51 pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice that the horse was lame in the near hind leg. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on FOMAL PRINCESS be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 3.51 pm:
0 cent in the dollar for the Win #7
6 cents in the dollar for place of winner #7
3 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4
7 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #6
ESTHER CAROLINE (S. Payne) began awkwardly.
JACQUETTA (J. Johnson) shifted in at the start and made contact with HERE'S TO YA (A. Pattillo).
Near the 1000m ESTHER CAROLINE had to be momentarily steadied when tightened between CHARSUI (B. Appo) and BELLE VERDE (T. Harrison), both of which shifted ground.
BEACH BABE (G. Colless) and BELLE VERDE raced wide throughout.
Stewards inquired into the reasons for A. Pattillo having to steady HERE'S TO YA shortly after entering the home straight. After taking evidence from the respective riders and reviewing the race patrol footage, it was established that HERE'S TO YA was tightened between SETTHEWORLDONFIRE (R. Wiggins) and HELLO I LOVE YOU (K. Yoshida), which was taken in by WHEN MY BABY (M. Hellyer), which shifted in and away from BEACH BABE. As stewards could not attribute blame to any one rider, no further action was taken.
A short distance later ESTHER CAROLINE attempted to improve into a run to the inside of SETTHEWORLDONFIRE where there appeared to be insufficient room. As a result of this, ESTHER CAROLINE raced in restricted room until a point near the 100m when clear running became available. Apprentice S. Payne (ESTHER CAROLINE) was advised to exercise more care in future when attempting to obtain clear running so as not to place himself or any other rider in danger.
T. Bell suffered a seemingly harmless fall on pulling up FLINDERS COMMAND.
Race 7: ST PETER CLAVER COLLEGE P&F C,G&E CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M
Trainer G. Heinrich's representative was advised that a fine of $200 would be imposed for failing to declare riders for POLAR BLITZ and CORNERED by the prescribed time.
CANNY BE FAMOUS (P. Schmidt) was slow to begin.
PURRFECTLYFEARLESS (J. Byrne) shifted in at the start making contact with MORE THAN MONEY (L. Rolls), which was slow to begin.
FINE GOLD (J. Johnson), HAITCHQUE (R. Wiggins) and SIPPIN'BUNDY (T. Jeffries) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Approaching the 400m UNO JOKER (T. Bell) shifted in, made contact with the running rail, became awkward and shifted out. This resulted in UNO JOKER having to be steadied from the heels of CORNERED (T. Harrison), which shifted in and away from FINE GOLD at this point of the race. Following this incident MORE THAN MONEY had to be checked when tightened between PURRFECTLYFEARLESS and CANNY BE FAMOUS, which had to be checked from the heels of UNO JOKER and shifted out.
I SMARTICUS (M. Cahill) was held up rounding the home turn.
