GENERAL

As G. Colless and C. McIver were ill and M. Speers was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: CITY OF IPSWICH CLASS 3 PLATE – 800M

ARKIBOUM (D. Hayse) was slow to begin.

Near the 500m both MISS MEGA HERZ (B. El-Issa) and SIMPLY SMART (T. Harrison) shifted in and made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced for a short distance.

Leaving the 500m ALL IS GOLD (A. Best) had to be restrained when forced to race in restricted room to the inside of ARKIBOUM, which shifted in and away from FLORAL GARDEN (M. Cahill), which was taken in by WAYNE'S GIFT (E. Wilkinson). E. Wilkinson was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

A post-race veterinary examination of ALL IS GOLD revealed no abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

MISS MEGA HERZ lost its near fore plate in running.

Race 2: LABOUR DAY RACING 7TH OCTOBER QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M

HARVEST (T. Harrison) and MISS SUNSET (R. Wiggins) were both tightened for room at the start between JETEYE WARRIOR (M. Vance) and ROBBIROCKETS (M. Cahill), which jumped away awkwardly. HARVEST lost ground in this incident.

Near the 800m ROBBIROCKETS had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HARVEST which shifted in.

Leaving the 500m ROBBIROCKETS had to be steadied from the heels of the tiring HARVEST.

Race 3: THE QUEENSLAND TIMES C,G&E MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

COUNT APOLLO (R. Wiggins) and DIE YOUNG (S. Bogenhuber) were both slow to begin.

SCUDS (J. Byrne) and CLAYPOOL (E. Wilkinson) both jumped away awkwardly and made contact.

BLACK CLARET (A. Merritt) and SIROCAN (B. El-Issa) overraced in the early and middle stages.

Leaving the 1000m SCUDS laid in despite the efforts of its rider and in doing so tightened the running of DIE YOUNG which had to be steadied.

KING'S GIFT (M. Cahill) commenced to hang from the 900m and raced wide from that point onwards.

BLACK CLARET laid in under pressure in the home straight.

E. Wilkinson (CLAYPOOL) reported to stewards that it had not been his intention to race in a forward position, however after travelling a short distance without being able to obtain cover, he allowed the gelding to stride to a position outside the lead.

Race 4: SKY RACING F&M MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

ONLINES was a late scratching at 1.23 pm for veterinary reasons.

Trainer K. Kemp advised that from the wide barrier SURLY TEMPLE (L. Tarrant) would be ridden quietly and put into the race from the 600m. The horse was ridden accordingly.

Correct weight was delayed to view the patrol footage to be satisfied that MISS TYPIN (T. Wolfgram), which stood flat-footed and refused to jump, losing considerable ground, had been afforded a fair start. Stewards after viewing the footage were satisfied and correct weight was declared on the semaphored numbers. Trainer H. Richardson was advised that MISS TYPIN must compete in an official barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.

STEFALINI (D. Green), which was fractious in the barriers prior to the start, jumped away awkwardly, shifted out taking HONEY BE WARNED (M. Cahill) and UNDERCOVER SECRET (J. Morris) outwards, which resulted in SURLY TEMPLE, which had been slow to begin, being hampered.

DIVA FLAIR (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.

Near the 900m STAR PASS (J. Byrne) shifted out and in doing so forced BURST THROUGH (A. Allen) wider. BURST THROUGH then raced wide throughout.

M. Cahill (HONEY BE WARNED) reported that it had not been his intention to lead, however after beginning well the mare raced keenly with blinkers on for the first time and he therefore allowed the horse to stride forward to take up the lead.

Trainer P. Butterworth reported that in his opinion OLYMPIC QUEEN would take benefit from today's race as the mare had had one jumpout following a lengthy spell and had not trialled.

A post-race veterinary examination of UNDERCOVER SECRET revealed no abnormalities.

Race 5: OPTUS BM65 H’CAP – 2150M

SIR STANLEY (L. Cassidy) jumped away awkwardly.

MR TRACEY (A. Allen) and RANDOM ORBIT (M. McGuren) were both slow to begin.

WORLD BY NIGHT (M. Hellyer) and SIR STANLEY made contact on a number of occasions after passing the winning post on the first occasion.

CRAZY WAYS (R. Ride) raced wide throughout.

Apprentice A. Allen reported that MR TRACEY became awkward in its action behind after passing the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination of MR TRACEY revealed the horse to be sore in the off foreleg. Trainer B. Baker was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for MR TRACEY prior to its next start.

Stewards afforded L. Cassidy the opportunity to comment on the performance of SIR STANLEY. He stated that the gelding was very disappointing, however could offer no tangible explanation after enjoying a favourable run just off the speed throughout. Trainer B. Baldwin reported that in his opinion SIR STANLEY races better when permitted to dictate terms in front and he would at this stage continue with the current preparation. A post-race veterinary examination of SIR STANLEY revealed no abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of WORLD BY NIGHT revealed the horse to be sore in the off foreleg. Trainer B. Brown was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for WORLD BY NIGHT prior to its next start. Mr Brown advised stewards that WORLD BY NIGHT would now be retired from racing.

Race 6: CHANNEL 7 CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1666M

The start of this race was delayed for HI HI (M. Hellyer) to be inspected by the veterinary surgeon at the request of its rider. HI HI was passed to take its place in the field.

RELAPSE (B. El-Issa) jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of COTORRA (A. Spinks). As a result, COTORRA shifted in tightening the running of both RELAPSE and KING OF THE FOREST (E. Wilkinson), which had been slow to begin.

KING OF THE FOREST overraced for a short distance approaching and leaving the 1400m.

CROATIAN QUALITY (M. Cahill) raced wide for the majority of the event.

SNOW'S A LADY (L. Tarrant) and HI HI were held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

B. El-Issa reported that RELAPSE laid out rounding the home turn and then laid in under pressure in the home straight.

A. Spinks was afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of COTORRA. He stated that the mare was very disappointing in his opinion and raced like a horse which had come to the end of its preparation, adding that he recommended to connections to send the horse for an immediate spell. Trainer P. Butterworth confirmed that COTORRA would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of COTORRA revealed no significant findings.

Race 7: XXXX CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

Trainer K. Kemp advised that STRONGHOLD (C. Schmidt) would be ridden slightly better than midfield if circumstances permit. The horse settled just worse than midfield.

VAMPIRELLA (T. Harrison) was examined by the veterinary surgeon after arrival at the track and passed fit to race.

RUSTIC PLAY (T. Wolfgram) was slow to begin.

SMART COOKIE (R. Ride) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with THEIA (B. El-Issa).

RUBI OF THE DESERT (S. Lanigan) jumped with its head in the air and lost ground.

Near the 1100m STRONGHOLD was steadied when racing in restricted room between BABY RASY (M. McKenzie) and GENERAL SON (M. Cahill), which was taken out by VAMPIRELLA (T. Harrison).

Approaching the 800m ABBALAC (M. Hellyer) was steadied when racing to the inside of RUSTIC PLAY, which shifted in. As a result, GENERAL SON, which was following, also had to be steadied and shifted wider on the track, forcing THEIA, STRONGHOLD and SMART COOKIE considerably wider on the track. SMART COOKIE then raced wide throughout.

VAMPIRELLA had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and in the home straight until approaching the 100m.

Stewards questioned apprentice T. Harrison regarding the tactics adopted on VAMPIRELLA, in particular her reasons for racing in an on-speed position in today's event, which is in contrast to its recent racing pattern. Ms Harrison advised that trainer R. Mackay had offered no specific instructions. She added that when VAMPIRELLA began well she then elected to ride forward to take up a forward position. Her comments were noted.

When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of MARYLAND, A. Spinks stated that it had not been his intention to lead, however after travelling a short distance he elected to stride forward as he was caught wide, and given that the mare had to be ridden vigorously until the 700m to obtain the lead, he was of the opinion that the performance was full of merit.
