Near the 800m, SHINZIGZAG (R. Wiggins) was inclined to hang in across the heels of NOT SO SOBER (M. Cahill) and had to be steadied.

Stewards questioned R. Wiggins regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of SHINZIGZAG. Jockey Wiggins stated that the horse travelled well in the early and middle stages, however when placed under pressure approaching the home turn failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. R. Wiggins could offer no tangible explanation for the performance. A post race veterinary examination of SHINZIGZAG failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. A swab sample was taken from SHINZIGZAG.

Race 2: The Queensland Times F&M Maiden Plate – 1350m

MISS CANNYBLU (B. Appo) began awkwardly.

SHE'S A DAZZLER (S. Bogenhuber) raced wide in the early and middle stages until assuming a position outside the leader at the 800m.

BADGER'S DRIFT (L. Cassidy) was inclined to lay out rounding the home corner and in the home straight.

S. Bogenhuber, rider of SHE'S A DAZZLER, was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts right out to the finish of the race.

Race 3: Ray White Ipswich Benchmark 70 H'cap – 2190M

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, OUTBACK GRANDE (S. Bogenhuber) commenced to overrace at the heels of SIR STANLEY (C. Munce), and near the 1500m had to be steadied from the heels of SIR STANLEY.

Near the 400m, SHEEZ KEEN (A. Allen) was momentarily steadied away from the heels of A SHADE BETTER (J. Taylor) to obtain clear running.

A. Allen reported on return to scale that SHEEZ KEEN was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

TAYSTAR (J. Orman) raced wide throughout.

B. Stewart, rider of the 6th placegetter, MOPORENA, was reprimanded for failing to ride his mount right out to the finish of the race.

Race 4: Discover Sirromet Class 1 H'cap – 1200m

CHAMPAGNE BLAZE was examined by the veterinary surgeon on arrival at the track and cleared to start.

J. Morris, rider of MONICELLI, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 900m when insufficiently clear of CHAMPAGNE BLAZE (J. Taylor), resulting in CHAMPAGNE BLAZE having to be steadied.

J. Morris, rider of MONICELLI, was reprimanded for using his whip in an excessive manner over the concluding stages.

ROCKING EMPIRE (A. Allen) raced wide in the early and middle stages.

A post race veterinary examination of MONICELLI failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 5: Optus QTIS 3yo Maiden H'cap – 1200m

SET AFIRE (T. Bell) and AGENCIA (L. Cassidy) were slow into stride.

JOKES ASEIDE (M. Cahill) began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping SIX BALLS AGAIN (S. Bogenhuber).

JETTING TO LONDON (C. Munce) was slow into stride.

A short distance after the start, AGENCIA made contact with the hind quarters of SIX BALLS AGAIN, which became unbalanced.

Near the 900m, KINGTANTES (G. Colless) commenced to overrace when being restrained to take up a trailing position behind GUNDY SPIRIT (R. Wiggins). As a consequence, ROL'N ROBI (L. Rolls), which was following, also had to be steadied.

JOKES ASEIDE (M. Cahill) was inclined to hang out from the 600m.

Passing the 500m, HEART SMART (A. Holt) had to be steadied from the heels of WICKED DAUGHTER (R. McMahon).

Near the 300m, KINGTANTES shifted out, forcing SET AFIRE out across the heels of HEART SMART.

Leaving the 300m, JETTING TO LONDON faltered for no apparent reason and was inclined to lay in thereafter, and near the 50m, had to be momentarily steadied from the heels of PIMLICO GIRL.

ALIBOTA (J. Johnson) and SET FIRE (T. Bell) raced wide for the majority of the race.

WICKED DAUGHTER (R. McMahon) lost its near fore plate in running.

Race 6: Sky Racing Class 3 Plate – 1200m

Stewards advised that in some publications STROMBO was shown as having bled from both nostrils at its last start, when in fact it had bled from one nostril, and had subsequently passed the required test to continue racing.

BEARDED DRAGON (A. Holt) was slow into stride.

UNSEEN (M. McKenzie) began awkwardly and shifted out at the start.

MISS MARGANI (M. O'Brien) and BEARDED DRAGON (A. Holt) raced wide in the middle stages.

On return to scale, T. Harrison reported CALDETES was inclined to hang out leaving the 700m.

Stewards sought an explanation from T. Harrison regarding the tactics adopted on CALDETES. She stated that near the 900m UNSEEN (M. McKenzie) shifted out from behind CAPTAIN SHAZAM (R. Wiggins) forcing her mount to race in a 3 wide position thereafter. She added that she endeavoured to restrain CALDETES to take a trailing position behind UNSEEN, however CALDETES commenced to overrace and she was of the opinion that rather than fight her mount she elected to allow CALDETES to stride forward and sit outside the leaders. Stewards noted her explanation.

UNSEEN lost its off fore plate in running.

Race 7: City of Ipswich Class 1 H'cap – 1700m

Connections advised VAN HOOLIGAN would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit.
VAN HOOLIGAN settled last.

CRAFTY'S LAST (M. O’Brien), BEAU BOY (B. Newport) and LUCIA (M. Cahill) were all slow to begin.

BEAU BOY began very awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with LUCIA, which lost ground.

Shortly after the start, CRAFTY'S LAST faltered for no apparent reason.

Near the 1400m, TWITTERBUG (B. Abbey) was inclined to hang in despite the efforts of its rider, tightening the running of VAN HOOLIGAN (J. Morris), which had to be steadied momentarily. A short distance later, PEOPLE GET READY (R. Jamieson) shifted in, taking TWITTERBUG in on to VAL HOOLIGAN, which again had to be steadied. R. Jamieson, rider of PEOPLE GET READY, was reminded of her obligations to allow sufficient room to runners to her inside.

LUCIA raced extremely wide from leaving the 700m.

GREENWOOD ECHO was momentarily held up to the inside of PEOPLE GET READY (R. Jamieson) on straightening.

When questioned regarding the performance of LUCIA, M. Cahill stated that the horse settled at the rear of the field in its customary position and travelled well throughout, however when placed under pressure leaving the 600m the horse failed to respond to his riding and proved most disappointing. M. Cahill was unable to offer any other explanation for the performance.
A post race veterinary examination of LUCIA failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 8: Open Up With Sirromet Class 2 H'cap – 1350m

FOUR JAYS (R. McMahon) and WARP NINE (T. Harrison) were slow to begin.
