Race 1: GOODNA RUGBY LEAGUE OLD BOYS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 800M

Connections advised that after racing back at its previous start, the intention is for LA TENZA (S. Bogenhuber) to be ridden in a forward position today. LA TENZA was unable to muster early speed and as a result raced midfield.

Soon after the start ALL THE ANGELS (J. Taylor) shifted out, bumping SIR WILLIAM (D. Green).

BOLD FEATURES (B. Appo) hung out rounding the home turn.

Stewards questioned apprentice S. Payne in relation to his riding of OVER THE CHOICE, in particular his whip use over the final 100m. After hearing submissions from Jockeys Advocate S. Scriven and advising him of their concerns, stewards issued apprentice Payne with a severe reprimand for the manner in which he used the whip over the concluding stages.

The veterinary surgeon reported that SIR WILLIAM was galloped on on the off hind leg.

Race 2: TERRY HOLLAND MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE – 1666M

Connections advised that OUR BAJA (T. Harrison) would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. After beginning only fairly, OUR BAJA was ridden forward to comply with these instructions and took up a midfield position.

BONGAREE JACK (R. Ride) was slow to begin.

SHUFFLE THE RULES (J. Johnson) shifted out at the start, forcing BUSY (N. Tomizawa) out on to TARTAN WARRIOR (J. Byrne).

RUN FOR MUN (A. Best) began awkwardly.

Soon after the start ACADANE (S. Drake) shifted in, making heavy contact with the hind quarters of SUPPLY AND DELIVER (A. Hearn), which became unbalanced.

TARTAN WARRIOR overraced in the early stages and approaching the 1200m had to be steadied.

CASINO CENTURY (C. Schmidt) raced wide in the early stages before working forward to assume the lead leaving the 1200m.

Near the 900m BONGAREE JACK, which was overracing, shifted out. RUN FOR MUN, which was following, improved to that runner's inside and had to be steadied when BONGAREE JACK shifted back in.

Near the 700m BONGAREE JACK had to be steadied after improving on to the heels of SUPPLY AND DELIVER.

Race 3: QUEENSLAND METAL RECYCLERS CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1666M

RUSSIAN LACE (A. Hearn) and RED ASSASSIN (C. Schmidt) were slow to begin.

After being caught wide in the early stages EXECUTE AT DAWN (M. Cahill) was allowed to improve forward and race outside the leader.

MAGIC GONSKI (M. McKenzie) raced wide throughout.

Near the 1400m RUSSIAN LACE improved on to the heels of UNION (T. Bell) and had to be steadied.

ROSEY JOAN (A. Allen) was inclined to hang in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

Leaving the 300m SPIRIT OF AMBER (E. Wilkinson) laid out and had to be steadied.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of ALANGEJACK, jockey P. Holmes stated that in his opinion the horse raced below expectations and was disappointing. Stable connections advised stewards that in view of the horse's performance today, consideration would be given to sending ALANGEJACK for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 4: KERWICK HOTEL QTIS 2YO H’CAP – 1100M

WE'RE READY (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.

SAVANNAH DREAM (C. Munce) shifted in at the start, making contact with HAKKASAN (J. Byrne), which in turn shifted in making contact with GHERARDINI (T. Harrison).

OUTBACK SAGA (E. Wilkinson), which raced wide throughout, hung out approaching the 700m and shifted wider on the track.

KELVIN THE KRUEL (R. Vigar), which raced wide throughout, hung out rounding the home turn and shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

PUNTA NORTE (T. Bell) had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and entering the home straight.

BAMBINO CLEMENTINE (B. Stewart) had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the home straight.

R. Ride, the rider of GIRLS COMMAND, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 100m she directed her mount out when insufficiently clear of PUNTA NORTE, which had to be checked. GHERARDINI, which was following, also had to be steadied in this incident. Apprentice Ride's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday 10 May and expire at midnight on Thursday 22 May 2014.

Race 5: CIVILPRO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

PROSPECTING (A. Merritt) began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with BALLY BULL (A. Hearn).

ABSINTHE MINDED (R. Wiggins) and SHANDIEN (G. Colless) came together on jumping away when both horses shifted ground.

SON OF SAGA (T. Harrison) was slow to begin.

MAVERICKISMYNAME (R. Vigar) began awkwardly.

SOUL POWERED (R. Ride) was slow into stride.

CONSUMPTION (A. Allen) and LITTLE DE TROY (M. Cahill) raced wide for the majority of the event.

EMPRESS EUGENIE (J. Taylor) was held up for clear running near the 300m.

When questioned regarding the performance of ABSINTHE MINDED, rider R. Wiggins could offer no tangible explanation other than that the filly was having its first start, but in his opinion it was nonetheless disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of ABSINTHE MINDED revealed the filly to be making an irregular respiratory noise and to be displaying mucus in both nostrils. Connections were advised that the results of an endoscopic examination and a veterinary clearance for ABSINTHE MINDED must be provided before the filly is permitted to race again.

Apprentice A. Allen, the rider of CONSUMPTION, advised stewards that the mare felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages. Stewards will interview trainer T. Gillespie regarding this matter.

Race 6: J. G. MULLAN CONSTRUCTIONS CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1666M

MAIN STREET (J. Byrne) began awkwardly and shifted in, brushing STALWART TYCOON (T. Harrison).

Approaching the 300m STALWART TYCOON was disappointed for a run between THAT'LLBEGOOD (S. Payne) and OBLIVIATE (L. Tarrant), which shifted out slightly to improve.

LEVER LEVER was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on LEVER LEVER, G. Colless advised stewards that after being caught wide he elected to ease the horse back and as a result LEVER LEVER raced further back than anticipated. Stewards noted his explanation.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on MAIN STREET, which raced back in the field, which is in contrast to its usual racing pattern of going forward, J. Byrne stated that after beginning only fairly, the filly was unable to muster its customary early speed and as a result was forced to race further back than anticipated, however added that he was satisfied with the gelding's finishing effort. Stewards noted his explanation.

The veterinary surgeon reported that OBLIVIATE had sustained lacerations to both hind legs.

Race 7: IPSWICH CUP 14TH JUNE CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

ROCKWELL (V. Colgan), which was initially a little slow to begin, was then checked when inconvenienced by KOKADOODLEDOO (J. Orman), which shifted out slightly, and KERRICAIT (M. Hellyer), which shifted in, resulting in ROCKWELL racing further back than anticipated.

KOKADOODLEDOO raced wide in the early and middle stages.

Near the 800m RETURN TICKET (L. Tarrant) improved on to the heels of KERRICAIT and had to be restrained.

Approaching the 700m DANCING HUSSAR (J. Taylor) shifted in of its own accord, making contact with the running rail and becoming unbalanced.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on TUNED IN, which led today, in contrast to its previous runs, T. Harrison stated that she was under no specific instructions to lead on the horse today, other than to race in a forward position if possible, which had been the instructions for the horse's previous runs whilst under the care of trainer K. Hickmott. Mr Hickmott confirmed those instructions and whilst he anticipated the horse racing in a forward position, it was not the intention to lead. Stewards noted the explanations, however reminded Mr Hickmott of his obligation to inform stewards should there be any variation in the horse's racing pattern.

Race 8: BOOK YOUR OWN MARQUEE FOR IPSWICH CUP DAY! CLASS 3 PLATE – 1350M

HERECOMESTHETIGER (C. Schmidt) was slow to begin.

Near the 1000m ARGIE'S HEART (T. Bell) had to be steadied when crowded for room by HOLEY GADOLEY (V. Venkaya), which shifted in. V. Venkaya was advised to show greater care when shifting ground.

TEARS (D. Missen) raced wide in the early stages.

Near the 800m HOLEY GADOLEY had to be restrained when racing in restricted room between LUCKY BLACK (C. Munce) and TEARS, which shifted in. D. Missen, the rider of TEARS, was reprimanded and advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.

CARRY THE DRINKS (J. Orman) raced wide for the majority of the event.

KING BING (M. Hellyer) had to be steadied leaving the 400m to avoid the heels of the tiring JUST MARRIED (J. Taylor).

Leaving the 400m HOLEY GADOLEY, which was inclined to hang out, had to be steadied off the heels of TEARS.

SMART HUSS (R. McMahon) was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.

GENERAL SON (T. Harrison) was forced wider rounding the home turn by SHOTOVER RIVER (A. Butler), which shifted out to obtain clear running.

A post-race veterinary examination of HERECOMESTHETIGER, which finished tailed off, revealed the gelding to be lame in both forelegs. Trainer T. McCarthy advised stewards that HERECOMESTHETIGER will now be retired from racing.
