When questioned as to the disappointing performance of SHANTUNG BOXER, R. Wiggins stated that his intention was to take up a midfield position from the wide barrier, however he was obliged to race further back in the field than anticipated. Jockey Wiggins expressed his disappointment in the performance and noted that the gelding had had 3 weeks between runs and was back in distance from its last start when over 1200m. Trainer J. Meagher expressed his disappointment in the performance and indicated that SHANTUNG BOER would be better suited when stepped up in distance at its next start where it would be able to settle in a position closer to the speed.
