GENERAL

As T. Bell was injured and G. Goold was indisposed, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: SCHWEPPES BM80 H’CAP – 2200M

ISAVENGER (T. Harrison) began awkwardly and lost ground.

SAM'S TOWN (R. Wiggins) overraced in the early stages.

Race 2: BOOK YOUR MARQUEE TODAY! BNE B/STOCK BONUS QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1020M

The start of this race was delayed when LUSH BELLE (M. Cahill) proved difficult to load. Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that a warning would be placed against the filly.

LUSH BELLE was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start RICH REWARD (A. Allen), when racing greenly, had to be eased from the heels of CASINO GOLD (J. Taylor).

ELEMENT JACK (J. Byrne) raced wide for the majority of the event.

RICH REWARD was held up rounding the home turn and was obliged to shift back to the inside of NAZAR ROYALE (S. Galloway), to obtain clear running.

Apprentice T. Harrison reported at scale that OLE PABLO hung out rounding the home turn and then raced greenly in the home straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of ELEMENT JACK revealed no significant findings.

Race 3: SIRROMET BRISBANE BLOODSTOCK BONUS QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1020M

FIXATION (R. Wiggins) and DANGEROUS MISSIE (M. Cahill) bumped on jumping.

STORMING PLEASURE (L. Cassidy) shifted out at the start, bumping BOOMI DAZZLER (A. Allen), which became unbalanced.

DANGEROUS MISSIE raced wide throughout.

Near the 600m BOOMI DAZZLER, when overracing, had to be restrained from the heels of ANOTHER CAPTAIN (B. El-Issa).

BOOMI DAZZLER was held up rounding the home turn behind the weakening ANOTHER CAPTAIN. As a consequence, FIXATION, which was following, had to be steadied from the heels of BOOMI DAZZLER.

WILD DIVA (J. Byrne) was held up for a short distance on entering the home straight.

When questioned regarding the performance of ANOTHER CAPTAIN, jockey B. El-Issa stated that after racing in a handy position throughout, the gelding was under pressure from a point near the 600m and had failed to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination of ANOTHER CAPTAIN revealed no significant findings.

RECKLESS ABANDON (G. Colless) lost its near fore plate in running.

Race 4: CHANNEL 7 MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

P. Butterworth, the trainer of OLYMPIC QUEEN, which was allowed to race without winkers, was fined $100 for failing to effect a gear change by the prescribed time.

IN FULL VIEW (M. Cahill) began awkwardly and made contact with IMAMODEL (C. Van Der Werf).

CALM LADY (J. Taylor) and LIFE'S LIKE THAT (S. Drake) were tightened for room on jumping away between EYE OF THE STORM (L. Cassidy) and MECAPPUCCINO (A. Butler), which began awkwardly and shifted in. A short distance later CALM LADY then had to be steadied when MECAPPUCCINO shifted in.

Near the 900m OLYMPIC QUEEN (D. Carrigg) was tightened for room, brushed the running rail and had to be steadied when racing to the inside of SPUR ME UP (V. Venkaya), which was taken in slightly by MR GOOD LOOKING (J. Byrne), which was also taken in slightly by ISTANA STAR (C. Schmidt). J. Byrne and apprentice Schmidt were advised to show greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

LIFE'S LIKE THAT hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 5: MARQUEES SELLING FAST! MAIDEN H’CAP – 1700M

ASSERTIVE LOVE (L. Tarrant) began awkwardly and bumped REVENUE RAIDER (S. Payne), taking that runner in on to INNER VIKING (R. Wiggins).

GLAMORGAN BABE (S. Drake) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start PRETTY PICTURE (T. Wolfgram) shifted in, making contact with EAT YOUR HEART OUT (N. Yamada). A short distance later EAT YOUR HEART OUT then shifted out, forcing PRETTY PICTURE across the heels of CHATEAU DE CRUIX (N. Tomizawa) and had to be steadied.

VIV'S VEGAS (L. Cassidy), PRETTY PICTURE and EAT YOUR HEART OUT raced wide throughout.

Rounding the home turn and for a short distance in the home straight DARING LIGHT (B. El-Issa) was held up and unable to improve.

GLAMORGAN BABE was also held up rounding the home turn and then had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 200m until near the 100m.

Apprentice T. Harrison reported at scale that it was not her intention to lead on SPIRITED SAINT, however after beginning well and then being caught wide in the early stages, she elected to allow SPIRITED SAINT to stride forward to the lead.

Race 6: CITY OF IPSWICH CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1100M

ROCK ACADEMY (G. Colless) and FORETOKEN (M. Vance) bumped on jumping.

A post-race veterinary examination of BELIEVE'N'RECEIVE (R. Wiggins) revealed no significant findings.

Race 7: XXXX GOLD F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

JITTERBUG (T. Harrison) and INTERLUDE (N. Tomizawa) were slow to begin.

Near the 1100m LILY MY GIRL (S. Fawke) had to be steadied from the heels of APPROPRIATION (J. Orman), which shifted in.

Leaving the 800m APPROPRIATION shifted in and bumped LILY MY GIRL. FLYING TIGER (P. Holmes), which was racing to the inside, became awkwardly placed at the heels of LILY MY GIRL and lost ground.

INTERLUDE was held up rounding the home turn.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PROUD VAL, jockey M. Cahill stated that after obtaining the lead, the filly travelled well in the early stages, however near the 700m commenced to hang out and rounding the home turn made contact with ATHANEA (C. Munce) and failed to respond to his riding in the home straight. He added that in his view PROUD VAL will be better suited on bigger tracks than that of today's. A post-race veterinary examination of PROUD VAL (M. Cahill) revealed the filly to have a slow recovery rate.

Race 8: IPSWICH CUP SATURDAY 14TH JUNE 2014 C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M

AS WE GO BY (N. Masuda) was slow to begin.

WISE COMMANDER (M. Cahill) began awkwardly, making contact with SET AFIRE (R. McMahon), and then shifted in and made contact with WALKIN' TALL (G. Colless).

Near the 800m LEWAULO (D. Missen), when overracing, had to be restrained off the heels of WALKIN' TALL.

Race 9: SKY RACING CLASS 3 PLATE – 1350M

CHANTILLY MISS (M. Cahill) underwent a veterinary inspection behind the barriers at the request of the rider and subsequently cleared to start.

CHANTILLY MISS began awkwardly and made contact with DON'TCRYARGENTINA (C. Schmidt).

Shortly after the start TEARS (D. Missen), GENERAL SHAREEF (T. Wolfgram) and BILLABONG BIRD (B. El-Issa) were tightened for room between ARGIE'S HEART (G. Colless) and L'ENTRECOTE (J. Byrne), which shifted out. In this incident BILLABONG BIRD was taken across the heels of ARGIE'S HEART and as a result clipped heels and blundered.

Near the 400m SMART HUSS (R. McMahon) shifted out and bumped ARGIE'S HEART.

CHANTILLY MISS raced wide throughout.

BILLABONG BIRD was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.

PETLEY (B. Evans) was held up for clear running for the majority of the home straight and approaching the 100m was disappointed for a run between TUNED IN (T. Harrison) and BON TEMPS (S. Payne), both of which shifted ground and as a result went to the line without being tested.

Near the 200m DON'TCRYARGENTINA was inconvenienced when tightened for room between SMART HUSS and TEARS, both of which shifted ground.

Stewards questioned jockey B. El-Issa regarding his riding of BILLABONG BIRD, in particular the reasons for his failure to improve in the early part of the home straight. Jockey El-Issa stated that after receiving interference soon after the start and then again rounding the home turn, he then endeavoured to balance the mare before riding vigorously. He added that he was unable to improve until SMART HUSS improved to his outside approaching the 200m and he was then able to apply pressure at that stage and the horse finished the race off well. Stewards noted jockey El-Issa's comments, however advised him in future not to leave himself open to questioning when placed in similar circumstances.
