Race 3: FREE FAMILY FUN DAY ON LABOUR DAY MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

DOUBLE DAN – Stewards questioned trainer N. Coy in relation to the horse's seemingly improved performance. Mr Coy advised that at its most recent start at Ipswich on Friday 18 July, the gelding had a tendency to hang in and race intractably and proved disappointing. Mr Coy added that for today's event he engaged a senior rider which he felt was to the horse's benefit and furthermore felt that the horse's racing manners improved throughout the event as a result of being able to race on the rail. He further added that DOUBLE DAN had worked well in preparation for today's event and he expected an honest showing.
MISS SO GOOD – Raced wide in the early stages. C. Munce advised stewards that with the blinkers on for the first time today, the horse was able to obtain a forward position, however when placed under pressure in the home straight failed to run on and tailed off. Trainer L. Ross advised that following the performance today, it is now the intention that the horse be removed from his stable.
Race 4: SIRROMET WINES F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M
DUSTY – On return to scale, L. Rolls advised that although the mare did not feel entirely comfortable on the prevailing track conditions, in his opinion it still proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had sustained a laceration to the near fore cannon.
SPINIFEX FIRE – When questioned as to her failure to ride her mount out to the conclusion of the event, jockey T. Harrison advised stewards that over the concluding stages she was awkwardly placed at the heels of MARYLAND, which shifted out gradually and for this reason she was forced to restrain her mount to avoid being interfered with by this runner. Stewards noted her explanation.
LARIMUS – Steadied to avoid heels near the 700m.
PHANTOM WHISPER – Slow to begin.
DUBAWI'S IMAGE – Laid out during the middle stages.

STROMBO – Apprentice B. Ainsworth reported that STROMBO travelled comfortably during the early and middle stages, however when placed under pressure from the 600m failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing.
MIGHTYSUI – Taken wider on the track by another runner approaching the 400m.
MAY NELLY – Apprentice L. Tarrant advised that in his opinion MAY NELLY felt sore behind. A post-race veterinary examination of MAY NELLY revealed no abnormalities.
MEADOW DREAMER – Stewards questioned J. Taylor in relation to the horse's disappointing performance. Jockey Taylor advised that MEADOW DREAMER travelled comfortably in the early stages, however from the 1200m never travelled strongly on the bit and when placed under pressure failed to run on, proving disappointing. Jockey Taylor further advised that the mare raced somewhat flat, being second up, and on the prevailing track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of MEADOW DREAMER revealed no abnormalities. Trainer N. Doyle agreed with the comments of jockey Taylor, however was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. Mr Doyle advised stewards that he would have further veterinary examinations and blood tests carried out on the horse, the results of which he will provide to stewards.
MAJESTIC SOUND – Raced wide throughout. Taken wider on the track by another runner approaching the 400m.
SILVER RIVER – Weakened over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of SILVER RIVER revealed no abnormalities.

REAL ROCKER – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.
TIANA – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.
ISTANA STAR – Stewards questioned apprentice C. Van Der Werf regarding her tactics and the overall performance of ISTANA STAR. Apprentice Van Der Werf stated that her instructions were to lead to day as ISTANA STAR had performed well when ridden in a similar manner. She added that when unable to cross OMISSION passing the 1100m, she continued to ride her mount along as she thought the horse would drop the bit if headed by this runner and therefore perform poorly. Whilst mindful of the instructions, stewards advised apprentice Van Der Werf that she had erred in her riding in that leaving the 1100m there was an opportunity to restrain ISTANA STAR to sit off OMISSION in order to give her mount ever opportunity to finish off the race. However, in the circumstances, stewards, whilst critical of her riding, did not believe that the standard of apprentice Van Der Werf's riding was culpable under the rules of racing and therefore took no further action. A post-race veterinary examination of ISTANA STAR revealed no significant findings. Trainer D. Schmidt advised that following the performance today of ISTANA STAR, it is the intention at this stage to spell the horse.
UNION – Held up and unable to improve from leaving the 400m until the early stages of the home straight.
