KILCOY RACE CLUB STEWARDS REPORT FRI.3.8.01

WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - GOOD
RACE 1: KILCOY WINE TRAIL H'CAP - 1500M.
As M. McCoy was indisposed, M. Dracos was substituted as the rider of ASSENTING and KAOTIC CAPERS (Race 3).
TOLGA DAN began awkwardly.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, TOLGA DAN commenced to pull hard and had to be steadied off the heels of BRONZE DOLLAR. TOLGA DAN continued to pull hard, striking the heels of BRONZE DOLLAR, causing that horse to become unbalanced and shift out abruptly, making heavy contact with the hind quarters of THE GREY TEST, resulting in THE GREY TEST running wide on the first corner. As a consequence of this incident, HOT KEY, which was following, had to be steadied and as a result the saddle shifted forward, placing its rider at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. At the same stage on the first turn, UNCANNY PLEASURE commenced to hang out and jumped the crossing at the 1200m.. UNCANNY PLEASURE then continued to hang out and shortly after dislodged C. Spry when it crashed through the outside running rail. ASSENTING, which was taken out by UNCANNY PLEASURE in this incident, also broke through the outside fence, dislodging M. Dracos. Stewards advised trainer M. Flanigan that UNCANNY PLEASURE would be required to trial satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start.
TOLGA DAN also jumped the crossing at the 1200m..
BRONZE DOLLAR was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon with on abnormalities reported.
RACE 2: KILCOY BAKERY H'CAP - 1500M.
BACK TO COURT and SAUVETERRE both began awkwardly and lost ground.
RAISE 'N' TOAST was slow to begin.
BACK TO COURT made the crossing at the 1200m. awkwardly.
After passing the 1000m., RAISE 'N' TOAST shifted out and made contact with CHARGAL on several occasions.
A veterinary examination of WE'RE RELATED revealed the mare to have blood in one nostril.
RACE 3: HAZELDEAN H'CAP - 800M.
PHILOMELA was a late scratching at 12.03 p.m. as a result of a problem associated with the scratching form being lodged by the designated time.
KAOTIC CAPERA jumped awkwardly and lost several lengths. Trainer D. Ward was advised that he would be required to provide a further barrier test certificate for the gelding prior to its next race start.
KWILA FORTUNE and VAIN AND HANDY were both slow to begin.
NORTHERN FORMULA was buffeted for room shortly after the start between RIVER OF BELLS, which jumped awkwardly and shifted in, and ED'S ACE, which shifted out.
MACHTIG ARAVATAMA raced wide and hung out rounding the home turn.
RACE 4: JIMNA H'CAP - 1200M.
As D. Wheeler was indisposed, D. Gay was substituted as the rider of CHARMED PRINCE and COUNT YALLAH (Race 5).
Trainer F.W. Mitchell was fined $25 for presenting MOSES DRIVER without its prescribed gear.
As R. Thomas was to be overweight, W. J. Cook was substituted as the rider of RIVOJEWEL. R. Thomas was fined $50.
RED WASP, which became cast in its barrier, was declared a late scratching at 2.23 p.m. on veterinary advice. As a result of RED WASP becoming cast, AMUN UMUN, which was in the adjoining barrier, became agitated and broke through the barriers. AMUN UMUN was also declared a late scratching at 2.24 p.m. on veterinary advice. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on AMUN UMUN and RED WASP were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 19 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time. Trainer P. Duff was advised that he would be required to provide a further barrier test certificate for RED WASP prior to its next race start.
LOREMASTER was slow to begin.
FLASH FRED was hampered for room shortly after the start between ZINTA and RIVOJEWEL, which was taken out by RAW FORCE.
Near the 900m., RAW FORCE had to be steadied as a result of SURPRISE NIP shifting out slightly and RAW INSTINCT being inclined to lay in. A short distance later, SUNDAE JESTER shifted in momentarily, tightening the running of RAW INSTINCT, which in turn shifted in, hampering RAW FORCE. A. Baker, rider of SUNDAE JESTER, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
D. Gay, rider of CHARMED PRINCE, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out rounding the home turn, resulting in MOSES DRIVER having to be eased and taken wider on the track. Stewards advised apprentice Gay that a similar exhibition of that riding may result in the status of his jockey's licence being reviewed.
RACE 5: CHRISTENSENS COACH & BUSES H'CAP - 1060M.
AUTUMNWOOD was a late scratching at 3.05 p.m. on veterinary advice after the mare became fractious in its barrier and injured its off hind leg. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on AUTUMNWOOD were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 35 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 22 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
ALBRE STAR proved difficult to load and then subsequently was retired by its rider at the entrance to the straight when that mare commenced to hang out badly. Trainer C. Stapleton was advised that ALBRE STAR would be required to trial satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.
CELENTO also proved difficult to load. Trainer D. McCaul's representative T. Scown was advised that he would be required to provide a further barrier test certificate prior to its next race start.
GOLDEN HUNTER and OCEANIA STAR were both slow to begin.
A. Merritt, rider of the 4th placegetter, GOLDEN HUNTER, and D. Gay, rider of the 5th placegetter, COUNT YALLAH, were each fined $50 for failing to weigh in.
RACE 6: FRED GRAY MEMORIAL H'CAP - 1060M.
LONG WAY HOME was slow to begin.
MANDA PANDA was tightened for room shortly after the start between CORAL ISLE, which shifted in, and TAILLEVENT, which taken out after receiving a bump from PARTICIPANT.
R. Morris, rider of OUR NIKITA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 850m., he allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in TAILLEVENT having to be checked. R. Morris was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 4 August, and to expire at midnight, 16 August 2001.
Approaching the 50m., OH CHRIS clipped the heels of the tiring OUR NIKITA and blundered.
RACE 7: ATHOL JENKINSON MEMORIAL H'CAP - 1200M.
KAAPTIVE DELIGHT was caught wide after the start and was obliged to race wide for the major portion of the race.
RACE 8: BILLY BARNES H'CAP - 800M.
As S. Morris was indisposed, A. Morrison was substituted as the rider of MAGICAL MAN.
S. Shield was also indisposed and replaced by K. Mahoney on HARRIER. K. Mahoney was examined by the club's ambulance officer after riding in GOLD RESERVE in race 6 and stood down from his engagement in this race. A. Baker was substituted as the rider of HARRIER.
ABSAROKA and OUR LURE were both slow to begin.
Near the 700m., HARRIER shifted in briefly, tightening the running of MAGICAL MAN.
Rounding the home turn, AMBIENCE was severely checked when racing to the inside of MASTER ALANNON, which hung in and away from COUNT JESTER despite the efforts of its rider. Whilst stewards conceded that the racing manners of MASTER ALANNON were mainly responsible for the incident, stewards reminded M. Dracos, rider of MASTER ALANNON, of his obligations to make every effort to prevent tightening to runners in similar circumstances.
TURIN shifted out to improve making the home turn and in doing so clipped the heels of HARRIER, resulting in TURIN blundering badly and M. Kawaguchi being dislodged a short distance later.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
