KILCOY RACE CLUB STEWARDS REPORT TUES.4.9.01

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr D. Aurisch (Chairman), Mr S. Railton, Mr A. Reardon, Mr C. Ferguson (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD

RACE 1: SHEEP'S BACK RESTAURANT H'CAP - 1500M.

Approaching the first turn, HYDRO'S BOY commenced to race fiercely.

ROMARNI'S REWARD also made the first turn awkwardly, forcing NADEED'S LIMIT wider on the track, and enabling BREATH and CHARGAL to improve to its inside.

Stewards questioned K. Bell regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of CHARGAL as compared to that mare's last start win at Kilcoy on 3 August 2001. K. Bell was of the view that the mare was not entirely comfortable racing in restricted room to the inside of BREATH in the middle stages and failed to respond to his riding from the 600m.. A veterinary examination of CHARGAL failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 2: SPINNAKER'S 'ALL YOU CAN EAT' DINER H'CAP - 1200M.

OUR REIGN jumped awkwardly, losing ground, and then raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event.

SUPERIOR KNIGHT shifted in shortly after the start, which resulted in O'SAVANA and OUR NIKITA being tightened for room.

ALWAYS GOLD shifted out shortly after entering the home straight, which resulted in SON OF DAWN having to be steadied to avoid heels. G. Lynch, rider of ALWAYS GOLD, was issued with a reprimand and advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.

OUR NIKITA, which suffered a bleeding attack during the event, will now incur the mandatory 3 month bar from racing. A swab sample was taken from OUR NIKITA.

RACE 3: BONNY VIEW HOTEL H'CAP - 1200M.

STUMPY JESTER shifted in under pressure leaving the 100m., tightening FLYING SOVEREIGN in on to TIMED IT WELL, which had to be steadied when attempting to obtain a run where there was doubtful room.

RACE 4: MARGATE CELLARS H'CAP - 800M.

As RIDE THE RAINBOW was being loaded into the barriers, the horse lunged forward, opening the front gates. DREAM VALE, which was in the adjoining stall also broke thorough the barriers, however was quickly restrained, examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Just prior to the start being effected on the second occasion, RIDE THE RAINBOW became fractious, reared up and got both forelegs caught over the partition of the barrier. RIDE THE RAINBOW was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.51 p.m.. As a result of this incident, DREAM VALE and DEBBIE'S PRIDE broke through the barriers. Both horses were examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on RIDE THE RAINBOW were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time. Trainer M. Baker was advised that he would be required to produce a further barrier test certificate for RIDE THE RAINBOW prior to its next race start.

Approaching the home turn, DREAM VALE shifted out and made heavy contact with REGALESTO, which resulted in that horse having to be checked when taken across the heels of GEMINI ROCKET.

KWILA FORTUNE and TAHLULA were unable to obtain clear running for the major part of the home straight.

RACE 5: LANDSBOROUGH HOTEL H'CAP - 800M.

Trainer Mr T. Johnson was fined $25 for failing to lodge a stable return with the correct ownership details for ROMAN COUNTY.

D. Gay, rider of MY AUNTY DOT, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that leaving the 600m., he permitted his mount to shift in when not fully clear of ROMAN COUNTY, resulting in ROMAN COUNTY being forced in onto MANOR'S DAUGHTER, which was tightened for room and in turn obliged to shift in on to the running of THE DINER and ELECTED POST. CONCERT, which was racing to the inside of ELECTED POST had to be checked in consequence. D. Gay was issued with a suspension to take effect at the expiry of a previously incurred suspension, such suspension to cover a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 13 September, and to expire at midnight, 22 September 2001.

After entering the home straight, SKIP THE COFFEE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MANOR'S DAUGHTER, which was tiring.

W. J. Cook was reprimanded for failing to weigh in on 4th placegetter SKIP THE COFFEE.

RACE 6: COTTON TREE MEATS H'CAP - 1060M.

Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer B. Bowditch for failing to declare a rider for SALIENT PRINCE by the prescribed time.

SALIENT PRINCE jumped away awkwardly and was hampered a short distance later by TAILLEVENT, which shifted out.

SALIENT PRINCE was forced to race wide for the remainder of the event.

A. Pattillo was reprimanded for riding TAILLEVENT back to scale when he was aware that the horse had sustained an injury. A post-race veterinary examination of TAILLEVENT revealed that horse to have broken down in the off foreleg.

RACE 7: BELVEDERE HOTEL H'CAP - 1060M.

D. Gill was indisposed due to an injury sustained in race 4. Stewards approved M. Callaghan as the rider of SPY KINGDOM.

Stewards opened an inquiry into M. Paget's handling of BAILS. After taking evidence from M. Paget, trainer R. Heathcote, and owner Mr J. Fish, the inquiry was adjourned to the QPC offices on Thursday, 6 September.

RACE 8: ASHMOLE ROAD CELLARS H'CAP - 1500M.

RAVENARTA jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

ARGANAUTIKA was hampered shortly after the start between PEGUNNY HERO and SO BLUE, which shifted in.

SO BLUE raced wide rounding the first turn.

Leaving the 500m., DICEY LADY shifted out to improve, tightening TOLGA DAN out on to CRAZY FELLA, which was forced across the heels of OUR RIVER.

W. Cook, rider of CALL UP, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the home turn he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SWEET TALKING, forcing that runner inwards across the running of MY REDMAN, which had to be checked. W. J. Cook was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 9 September, and to expire at midnight, 19 September 2001.

ALL WINNERS AND OUR NIKITA WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
