KILCOY RACE CLUB STEWARDS REPORT FRIDAY, 2.5.03
STEWARDS PANEL: Mr C. Clifford, (Chairman), Mr S. Railton, Mr A. Reardon, Mr J. Hackett.
WEATHER - FINE TRACK - DEAD/SLOW AT 11.10A.M.
GENERAL: Stewards downgraded the track rating from dead to slow at 11.10 a.m..
RACE 1: HERVEY BAY GOLDEN SHORES H'CAP - 1500M.
COTTAGE ROOF was slow to begin.
RACE 2: GOLDEN SHORES DREAMS CAN COME TRUE H'CAP - 1200M.
MENNESS, which was slow to jump, was hampered shortly after by JUST A HOOT, which shifted in.
On jumping, INVERSE RATIO was hampered between LEADER MOONSHINE and BELLTANG, which shifted in slightly.
SO NATURAL was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer J. Judge for the late declaration of rider for WESTHAVEN BEL.
RACE 3: GOLDEN DOWNS UP IN LIGHTS H'CAP - 800M.
JONESIE and LITTLE VOICE made contact on jumping away, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
Approaching the home turn, LITTLE VOICE was hampered when JONESIE shifted out, resulting in LITTLE VOICE having to be steadied off the heels of ILSOBAR.
A veterinary examination of BIRRAWEE BOY following the event revealed the gelding to have sustained minor lacerations to the off fore leg.
RACE 4: GOLDEN IDEAS AT HERVEY BAY H'CAP - 2000M.
K. Mahoney was dislodged from MISS BENING, which threw itself down during the preliminary. MISS BENING was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
TELINDA LAD was slow to begin.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of EUROSYMBOL, A. Kennedy stated that the gelding pulled hard in the early and middle stages, and that he elected to improve his position from the 900m., however when placed under pressure at the 600m., EUROSYMBOL commenced to hang out and failed to respond to his riding. A. Kennedy added that in his view, the gelding failed to run out the 2000m. distance. A veterinary examination of ERUOSYMBOL failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 5: GOLDEN DOWNS QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.
MANS A NATIVE jumped away awkwardly.
RACE 6: GOLDEN DOWNS RESORT SWINGERS QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.
CALL THE HUNTER was a late scratching at 9.55 a.m. acting on veterinary advice.
Approaching the 800m., MORINGA'S MERCURY shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of GLORIOUS FEELING.
K. Pope reported that his saddle shifted to the off-side after passing the 800m..
RACE 7: GOLDEN DOWNS/GOLDEN SHORES KILCOY CUP - 1500M.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, STORMY LODGE had to be steadied to avoid the NETAZI, which shifted in. M. Aspinall, rider of NETAZI, was reminded of his obligations to be 2 lengths clear when shifting ground.
HE'S A KWILA dipped in the going on the turn out of the straight on the first occasion.
POETIC HEIGHTS and HE'S A KWILA had to be restrained off the heels when the pace slackened passing the 1200m..
TREASURE THE KWILA was held up for clear running for some distance prior to the entrance to the straight.
Passing the 150m., TREASURE THE KWILA obtained a clear run between HE'S A KWILA and SAMMY. Shortly after, TREASURE THE KWILA was accidentally struck over the head by the whips of both J. Taylor, rider of HE'S A KWILA, and L. Appo, rider of SAMMY. At the same stage, SAMMY shifted in, making contact with the shoulder of TREASURE THE KWILA. Simultaneously, CRACKERJACK'S HOPE shifted out, taking HE'S A KWILA out on to TREASURE THE KWILA, which then had to be checked when forced across the heels of SAMMY. L. Appo, rider of SAMMY, was reprimanded and reminded of his responsibilities to stop riding and straighten his mounts once they shift ground.
A veterinary examination of SAMMY following the even revealed the gelding to have sustained contusions to the off hock.
The club's veterinary surgeon also reported that MISTER OMEGA had suffered contusions to the right hock.
RACE 8: LIFESTYLE FUN FOR OVER 50'S H'CAP - 1060M.
Trainer J. McLachlan and apprentice M. Rice were questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SANDY SLIDE. Apprentice Rice stated that the filly never travelled well on the slow track and failed to respond to his riding throughout. Mr B. McLachlan stated he believed filly's disappointing performance was due to SANDY SLIDE'S failure to handle the slow track conditions.
When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of OUR GIRL ANNIE, trainer B.Gill stated that when last of 13 at the SCTC meeting on 20 April the filly was showing indications of suffering from a seasonal complaint. He added that OUR GIRL ANNIE was better suited when able to lead unchallenged, and performs best with its runs being spaced.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
