Race 1: CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1060m
1st – BANDERIN 2nd – HIGHER ORDER 3rd – ROB THE VAULT 4th – SHINER
HEY DIDDLEDIDDLE (M Dorrington) and MINONDER (App K Gates) were slow to begin.
HIGHER ORDER (L Finlay) began awkwardly losing a little ground.
TEDONTA (R Hancock) raced wide throughout.
Following the event C Eaton, the rider of KASSMER, reported that mare had a tendency to lay out throughout.
When questioned over the below market performance of MINONDER, App K Gates stated the mare never travelled well at any stage of the event and was under pressure from leaving the 600m. Trainer Mr S Mackinnon expressed his disappointment and could offer no explanation. He further advised that he would be reviewing the immediate racing future of MINONDER, and in the circumstances stewards took no further action.
Race 2: CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 800m
1st – MAYAMAC 2nd - MORRISON 3rd – LISSOY’S LASS 4th – ISAJOY
A pre-race veterinary examination of OUR ROCK AND ROLLA (R Hancock), which was having its first race start in two years, passed the gelding fit to race.
Due to an electrical malfunction, this event was effected by a manual start.
Correct weight was delayed to allow App G Goold, rider of fourth placegetter ISAJOY to view the start of this event to determine if his mount was afforded a fair start. After taking evidence from starter Mr S Ehlers, App G Goold and viewing the race DVD footage, stewards deemed all runners were afforded a fair start and correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings.
STILL AFTER (App R Ride) was slow to begin.
LISSOY’S LASS (App A Fancourt) and PENN STATE (C Eaton) were tightened at the start between ISAJOY which shifted out, and ROCKIN’ REES (L Appo) which shifted in.
J Hoopert, rider of fifth placegetter RAHULA was reprimanded for failing to weigh in on that runner when required to do so (AR144).
Stewards questioned App A Fancourt, the rider of third placegetter LISSOY’S LASS for her reason returning to scale in excess of ½ kilogram over weight. App Fancourt explained that the reason was due to a pre-existing medical condition that necessitated her taking on fluids after initially weighing out. After taking into account that App Fancourt has only been licensed for a period of three months, and also her particular health circumstances, stewards took no direct action, however did advise her that in future she does not take rides which place her in a position where similar circumstances may occur.
Race 3: CLASS B HANDICAP - 2000m
1st – GOTADOLLAR 2nd – LUNAR CYCLE 3rd – SIDESHOW SUMMER 4th – CROWN NEWS
Prior to the start of this event stewards questioned Mr J Casey, trainer of FLYING NIGHT, which was having its first race start, the reason for starting the mare over the distance of today’s 2000m event. Mr Casey explained that he was of the opinion FLYING NIGHT is best suited over long distances, and that he was confident that the mare would be competitive. FLYING NIGHT subsequently raced at the tail of the field for the majority of the event and officially finished in last place 28 lengths from the winner. Jockey B Powell stated the mare sweated up prior to the event and after travelling well for the first 800m was reluctant to race in a competitive manner from that point onwards despite his efforts. A post-race veterinary examination of FLYING NIGHT revealed a slow recovery rate and signs of respiratory distress. Trainer J Casey was advised the mare would be require a veterinary clearance and in addition would also be required to barrier trial over a distance of at least 800m prior to its next race start.
Approaching the 1600m CROWN NEWS (T Banks) was crowded for room and hampered when FLYING NIGHT (B Powell), which was racing greenly at that time, shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
Near the 1200m GOTADOLLAR (App A Fancourt), which was leading, shifted in of its own accord and made contact with the running rail resulting in the gelding becoming unbalanced for a short time.
Leaving the 800m CROWN NEWS shifted out to improve and in doing so WAR STORIES (App K Gates) was taken wider on the track.
A post-race veterinary examination of BOUND FOR ABUDHABI (R Hancock) revealed the gelding to be sore in the off foreleg. Trainer Mr I Livingstone was advised a veterinary certificate would be required prior to its next race start.
Race 4: CLASS 3 PLATE QTIS ADDED STAKES - 1500m
1st – ELLIE LA VIE 2nd – CHUBBY CHIPMUNK 3rd – BOOBOISIE 4th – SERIOUSLY READY
BOOBOISIE (M Gray) began awkwardly.
CHUBBY CHIPMUNK (B Powel) raced wide in the early stages before obtaining the lead at the 1000m.
BOOBOISIE raced wide in the early stages before obtaining cover near the 900m.
When the pace steadied near the 800m, SERIOUSLY READY (L Williams) shifted out and raced wide for the remainder of the race.
LEICA FUSE (R Hancock) over-raced in the middle stages.
Race 5: OPEN HANDICAP - 1200m
1st – BACK ON TOP 2nd – PATTIES MATE 3rd – IMA JOKER 4th – THREE SWALLOWS
TURN AND BURN (I Coombes) and BACK ON TOP (App A Fancourt) were both slow to begin.
J Hoopert, the rider of BORSHA’S WARRIOR, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR 137(a), in that approaching the 1000m he made insufficient effort to prevent that gelding from shifting in, which resulted in COUNTY SHERRIF (L Appo) being checked and losing its rightful running. J Hoopert was suspended for a period of six meetings to commence midnight 17th June up to and including midnight 28th June.
IMA JOKER (App R Ride) raced wide from the 800m.
THREE SWALLOWS (App K Gates) raced wide throughout.
PATTIES MATE (R Hancock) was held up for clear running and unable to improve between the 400m and 200m.
Race 6: MAIDEN PLATE 3YO & UP - 1200m
1st – BUTCH 2nd – ROYAL LAKE 3rd – BUTTERSCOTCH 4th – DELLASERA
A pre-race veterinary examination of MOON LANDING (M Gray), which was kicked by another runner in the saddling enclosure, passed the gelding fit to start.
FOOTROT FLATS (App R Ride) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 1000m ALJOMAKA BAY (R Hancock), which had a tendency to lay out, was tightened for room and inconvenienced when DELLASERA (S Bayliss) shifted in momentarily. S Bayliss was advised to exercise care in similar circumstances.
FAIRGLASE (C Eaton) pulled hard and over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event and when tiring approaching the hometurn, shifted out allowing BUTCH (App A Fancourt) to obtain a run to its inside.
Approaching the 100m MOON LANDING (M Gray) had to be steadied away from the heels of the tiring FAIRGLASE.
Stewards questioned L Appo, the rider of NIQUALO, regarding the reason for the mare racing in a more forward position compared to its most recent start at Rockhampton, when NIQUALO raced in a rearward position. L Appo stated that NIQUALO did not begin well at its previous start, however that today the mare jumped well, and after being caught wide early he elected to allow NIQUALO to stride forward. Stewards accepted L Appo’s explanation.
A post-race veterinary examination of FOOTROT FLATS, which tired badly over the concluding stages, revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer Mr B Hudson was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the gelding’s next race start.
