Race 1: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE - 800m

SOMERSET DAWN (B. Appo) and COUNTRY GOSSIP (A. Badger) were slow to begin.

Shortly after the start CRAIGLEA DANSAL (S. Fawke) shifted out, resulting in MONTANA HERO (L. Cassidy) having to be checked and losing ground when tightened for room between CRAIGLEA DANSAL and COUNTRY GOSSIP. COUNTRY GOSSIP was inconvenienced as a consequence.

N. Evans, the rider of MISS BAM, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 400m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DESPINA (R. Vigar), resulting in DESPINA being tightened for room between MISS BAM and CRAIGLEA DANSAL and having to be checked. Jockey Evans’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, with the period to commence at midnight on Saturday 29 March and expire at midnight on Friday 11 April 2014.

DESPINA and LADY JETSETTER (M. Hellyer) hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 2: LIONEL RICHARDS CLASS 1 H’CAP - 1200m

Trainer M. Goodwin was reprimanded for presenting NADOR to race with incorrect gear. Mr Goodwin was also advised that he would not be permitted to start NADOR again until the identification papers were presented to stewards.

HOW CAN I HELP (D. Missen) and LUNAR (E. Ljung) raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 400m NADOR (J. Missen) shifted in and away from LUNAR and bumped BAY RUST (R. Goltz) and as a result had to be steadied and lost ground.

Race 3: MAX MILLS MAIDEN PLATE - 1500m

EIGHT MATCH WINNER (J. Missen) began awkwardly.

Shortly after the start SHOT OF HAPPINESS (S. Bogenhuber) was awkwardly placed at the heels of IF IN DOUBT (D. Hayse) and had to be steadied.

Leaving the winning post on the first occasion HIDE THE ACE (S. Drake) hung out when overracing and inconvenienced JUST TAKE IT (B. Appo), which in turn shifted out and forced LETS THINKABOUT IT (A. Fancourt) wider on the track. LETS THINKABOUT IT then raced wide from that point. HIDE THE ACE continued to overrace until a point near the 800m.

S. Drake, the rider of HIDE THE ACE, was reminded of her obligation to ride her mounts out to the finish line.

Race 4: CON & JENNY SEARLE BM75 H’CAP - 1060m

EXPLORE THE WORLD (G. Killen) was slow to begin.

IMPALA (L. Cassidy) raced three wide for the majority of the event.

Near the 600m ENCINITAS (B. Derbyshire) had to be steadied when inclined to hang out.

Leaving the 500m NAVILLUS SUPERMAN (G. Goold) was held up for clear running.

A post-race veterinary examination of NAVILLUS SUPERMAN revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer J. Curtain was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for NAVILLUS SUPERMAN prior to its next start.

Race 5: HEDLEY GITTINS MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE - 1060m

TRACKER (L. Cassidy) was tightened for room at the start between MR PERSISTENT (L. Rolls) and CHOSEN COURT (T. Wolfgram), both of which shifted ground.

SAPPHIRE QUEST (J. Missen) began awkwardly.

Approaching the 800m COOL FUSION, which was racing ungenerously, shifted in and away from SAPPHIRE QUEST, resulting in CHOSEN COURT (T. Wolfgram), which was racing to the inside of COOL FUSION, shifting in and away from that runner, placing both MR PERSISTENT (L. Rolls) and ONE IN ONE OUT (G. Goold) in restricted room and as a result ONE IN ONE OUT had to be steadied. Trainer C. Byrne was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of COOL FUSION.

A post-race veterinary examination of ONE IN ONE OUT revealed the filly to have significant lacerations inside both cheeks. Trainer S. Watters was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for ONE IN ONE OUT prior to its next start.

Race 6: KEVIN PURCELL CLASS 2 H’CAP - 1500m

Shortly after the start PORT RAIDER (S. Fawke) shifted out and hampered SARTEAGWEN (T. Wolfgram).

After passing the 1200m AKBAR (M. Hellyer) overraced for a short distance.

From passing the 400m until a point near the 300m LUCKS IN (G. Geran) shifted in and bumped PORT RAIDER on a couple of occasions.

Approaching the home turn PALPITATE was held up for clear running.

YARRANDI (S. Bogenhuber) hung out rounding the home turn, which allowed PALPITATE (R. Goltz) to improve to its inside.

JERROCITY (J. Missen) shifted in under pressure in the home straight.

Trainer T. Crane reported that after hanging out and losing significant ground on the first turn LITTLE NATHAN (L. Cassidy) did not race well when positioned back in the field and this had an overall effect on the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of LITTLE NATHAN revealed no abnormalities.

When asked to comment on the disappointing performance of LUCK’S IN, jockey G. Geran stated that after travelling well for the majority of the event, his mount made contact with another runner on a couple of occasions near the 500m and failed to finish the race off as well as he expected. Jockey Geran added that today’s weight of 59kg may also have had a bearing on the horse’s performance.

J. Missen, the rider of JERROCITY, reported at scale that his mount hung out leaving the winning post on the first occasion and lost ground as a result.

Race 7: DI & IAN MCCAULEY RATING 62 H’CAP - 2000m

GANGSTA GEORGE (M. Hellyer) shifted in at the start and made contact with TIGER BASSIE (S. Bogenhuber).

MORALS (G. Killen) began awkwardly.

NORTHERN WARRIOR (S. Fawke) raced wide in the early stages.

ROYAL ROCKET (L. Tilley) raced wide throughout.

Near the 800m NATURE BITES (N. Tomizawa) shifted out, bumping GANGSTA GEORGE, which resulted in GANGSTA GEORGE being obliged to race wide from that point onwards.

GLASS HALF FULL (S. Drake) made the home turn extremely wide.
