RACE 1: BM 55 HDCP 1060 Metres
A short distance after the start ROMAN WATERS (B Powell) was tightened for room and hampered between CARROT (App T Williams) and WINDS OF FIRE (App A Fancourt) which was taken in by SEQUALO GOLD (App H Phillips).
At scale App H Phillips, rider of SEQUALO GOLD, reported the gelding was inclined to lay out from a point leaving the 600 metres. As a result DECADENT (App B Derbyshire) was taken wider rounding the home-turn.
ROMAN WATERS and SEQUALO GOLD both raced wide throughout.
Following showers prior to and during the running of this event, the track rating was downgraded at 1:00pm to a Dead 5.
RACE 2: Ratings 55 HDCP 2000 Metres
Prior to the event P Blackwell, trainer of SHINZO MASHURANBO, advised he would be instructing his rider that the gelding be ridden on the speed. The horse was ridden accordingly before tiring near the 1000 metres.
Near the 1700 metres, SHINZO MASHURANBO was crowded and had to be steadied when CARLSON’S FELT (Bradley Appo) shifted in when not clear. B Appo was reprimanded and advised to show greater care.
After rounding the turn at the 600 metres, LATARNO (App B Stower) shifted out under pressure allowing STALWART ESTA (I Coombes) to improve to the inside.
A post-race Vet examination of SHINZO MASHURANBO, which finished tailed off, revealed a poor post-race recovery rate. Trainer P Blackwell indicated it was his intention to retire the gelding, however was advised if these circumstances were to change SHINZO MISHURANBO would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
RACE 3: BM 65 HDCP 1500 Metres
The start of this event was delayed when EXQUISITE ANGEL (App T Williams) proved difficult to load.
BAMBOO HOUSE (App S Alam) began awkwardly and lost ground.
Both CRAZY WAYS (App T Brooker) and EXQUISITE ANGEL were slow to begin.
On the turn out of the home straight at the 1200 metres KUTCHER (M O’Brien) raced in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of AMONUTE (N Tomizawa).
Stewards questioned App S Alam, rider of BAMBOO HOUSE, which weakened badly from the 500 metres and was beaten 20 lengths, regarding the amount of pressure he applied between the 900 metres and the 600 metres when racing outside the leader MIGHTYSUI. App S Alam advised he had been instructed to apply pressure from the 600 metres, however after settling in a forward position mid-race he elected to ride BAMBOO HOUSE forward from a point leaving the 900 metres. After viewing the patrol DVD and in the presence of jockey advocate Mr D Tanti, App Alam agreed with Stewards that given the established racing pattern of BAMBOO HOUSE he would have been better served not riding the gelding in such an aggressive manner at that stage of the race.
RACE 4: Maiden HDCP 1200 Metres
On return to scale a protest was lodged by B Powell, rider of second placegetter THIS TIME LORD against the winner JUDGE JUDY ridden by App S Alam alleging interference at the 400 metres. After taking evidence from the riders concerned, viewing the patrol DVD footage and taking into account the ½ length margin, stewards upheld the protest and amended the placings to read 8-2-7-1-6. In arriving at this decision stewards found that from the 500 metres THIS TIME LORD had established a run to the inside of JUDGE JUDY and near the 400 metres was checked when JUDGE JUDY shifted back to the rail when not clear. As a result of this incident THIS TIME LORD lost momentum and was obliged to shift wider rounding the home-turn in order to obtain clear running. At a subsequent inquiry App S Alam was severely reprimanded and advised to show more care in similar circumstances.
RACE 5: Kilcoy Cup Open HDCP 1200 Metres
At scale G Killen, rider of ZED MAN, reported the gelding did not handle todays prevailing track conditions.
When questioned regarding the performance of BETTER NOT DOUBT, App B Derbyshire stated the gelding travelled well in the early stages of the event, however when placed under pressure leaving the 500 metres failed to run on.
App F Elliot, rider of third placegetter RUN JAKE RUN, was reprimanded for returning to scale in excess of ½ kg overweight.
RACE 6: QTIS 2 y-o Fillies HDCP 1200 Metres
After being loaded into the barriers, SILK AND SATIN (App T Williams) lunged forward and made contact with the front barrier partition. The filly was removed from the barriers, examined by the club Vet and subsequently passed fit to start.
Near the 900 metres SILK AND SATIN, which was reluctant to hold its position when racing tightly to the inside of HOT TEMPO (APP B DERBYSHIRE), became unbalanced and had to be steadied.
Making the turn at the 800 metres, MI LAZZARO, which was having its first race start, shifted out abruptly and ran to the outside running rail and took no further competitive part in the event. Trainer T Crane was advised MI LAZZARO would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. A post race vet examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormality.
Due to commitments of App A. Fancourt at the SCTC meeting, Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for FIFTYSHADESDARKER having to be checked approaching the 400 metres to a time and date to be confirmed.
A post-race Vet examination of LITTLE FIGHTER revealed the filly had suffered a cut to the off fore leg.
