General : As M Goodwin was indisposed the Stewards permitted the flowing changes;
Race 2, KEEP ME IN MIND, T Willan, Race 5, KALNUTO, J Dagan, Race 6, BOYARIN(NZ), A Ware. As no other ride was available DAN’S DE NIRO was declared a late scratching at 9am.
Race 1: Ballard Freightline Maiden Plate 1000metres
DANCING RED and CALL ME CHIPIE were slow to begin.
BON HERITAGE jumped away awkwardly.
BOOTS LASS was inclined to hang out throughout the event.
MIDNIGHT SILENCE was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
Race 2: Jumbuck Motel Handicap 1000metres
KID MILLIONS was slow to begin.
KEEP ME IN MIND jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 150 metres WAWEE had to be steadied when tightened for room between STARATAN ( D Simmons), which shifted out, and SHE’S FALLING ( J Dagan ) which shifted in. Both D Simmons and J Dagan were reprimanded for allow their mounts to shift ground.
Race 3: Coola Carpets QTIS Class 2 Handicap 1200metres
KALINGA BLUE was a late scratching at 9.30am when no rider was available.
ARADANE was hampered on jumping between REGAL DOWNS and BRAVEST OF ALL which jumped out.
CRAIGLEA WINGS and BOONGALA brushed on jumping.
THE SNOWMAN raced wide in the early and middle stages.
ARADANE raced ungenerously throughout the event.
O Galea was fined $100 under AR145 for weighting in excess of ½ kilogram overweight on POLISKY.
Race 4: O’Briens Garage Class 6 Handicap 1200metres
On returning to scale jockey O Galea may application that DA VANTI was denied a fair start as the geldings barriers failed to open. After viewing the Stewards patrol film, acting under AR134A DA VANTI was declared a non-runner as the barriers failed to open until forced open by the gelding, losing considerable ground. Stewards order all monies invested on DA VANTI be refunded and the following deductions apply, 39 cents in the face value of the win ticket and 23 cents in the face value of the place ticket.
Race 5: Shell Longreach Service Centre Class 4 Handicap 1400metres
SAINT LEON was slow to begin.
PROVINCE jumped in at the start making contact with REAL SASSY.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of KALNUTO, trainer R Hermann stated that it was the first time since he had started training the mare that she had run over 1400 metres and in his opinion the mare was suited by the further distance of today’s event. Stewards noted his explanation.
Race 6: Craiglea-Marrs XXXX Matilda Stockman Hall of Fame Hcp 1600metres
Apprentice A Ware was reprimanded for fail to claim her full allowance on BOYARIN(NZ).
GO RADAR was slow to begin.
Jockey O Galea pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that after passing the 1400 metres he allowed his mount WAITING to shift in when insufficiently clear of BOYARIN(NZ) (A Ware) resulting in that gelding losing its position, and FLYING FEATHERS ( J Dagan) which had to be checked by its rider. O Galea licence to ride in races was suspended for 2 meetings commencing immediately and up to and including Saturday 26th June 2004.
Jockey R Barone was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that approaching the 200 metres he allowed his mount HOUSE OF HORRORS to shift out resulting in VAIN JOE having to be checked by its rider R Tilley. R Barone licence to ride in races was suspended for 2 meetings commencing on midnight Thursday 17th June and up to and including Saturday 26th June 2004.
Near the finishing line WAITING ( O Galea) shifted in hampering COLONEL FLYER ( R Bellert). O Galea was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.
All Winners plus every runner in race 6 were Swabbed.
