Race 1: Starlights Tavern Benchmark 55 Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – ANOTHER SHADE 2nd – WASHER 3rd – VERT CADEAU 4th – TENMOREGRAND
App G Steele rode LEICAZUPA and R Faehr rode WASHER.
LAST CAN (S Galvin) was difficult to load into the barriers.
RYDANIC MISS (R Mules) raced wide throughout.
TENMOREGRAND (D Rewald) raced wide for the majority of the event.
LEICAZUPA (R Faehr) raced wide rounding the home turn.
On return to scale WASHER (R Faehr) was found to have blood in its mouth. A veterinary examination of WASHER revealed the gelding had a minor laceration to its tongue.
Race 2: Dusty Dolls QTIS Maiden Plate 1200 metres:
1st – STATE OF MIND 2nd – FEAR NONE 3rd – DEEKAYEL 4th – BLUE JEST
NO INVOLVEMENT was a late withdrawal at midday when no rider was available.
PIPPA’S CALL (S Galvin) was reluctant to load into the barriers.
BLUE JEST (R Sue-San) was slow to begin then raced wide rounding the home turn.
DEEKAYAL (R Hancock) raced wide for the majority of the event.
FEAR NONE (R Mules) raced wide rounding the 800m turn. Jockey R Mules reported that for a short distance near the 300m FEAR NONE lost momentum for no apparent reason.
Race 3: Gordon ‘Popeye’ Saunders Benchmark 65 Handicap 1200 metres:
1st – NOU CAMP 2nd – KOMODO 3rd – PRINCE FIREBALL 4th – POWER SOURCE
DASHING DUNLOP was a late withdrawal at 1.00pm when no rider was available.
R Faehr rode KANSKJE.
PRINCE FIREBALL (R Sue-San) raced wide for the majority of the event.
VANGUARD (R Mules) raced wide rounding the home turn.
CRAIGLEA RAWIE (R Hancock) weakened noticeably over the concluding stages.
Stewards interviewed jockey/trainer D Rewald regarding the improved performance of the winner NOU CAMP as compared to its previous start where the gelding finished last. Trainer/jockey Rewald explained that at its previous start the gelding which was having its first start for him weakened from the 600m and resented the kickback from the sand track. He said that today NOU CAMP was much more relaxed and had worked well leading into the race. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 4: Longreach Tyre Centre Class 3 Plate 1400 metres:
1st – NEPTUNE EXPRESS (NZ) 2nd – CONQUITADOR 3rd – COME PREPARED 4th – MAYOR OF CLONMEL
NEPTUNE EXPRESS (NZ) (R Sue-San) raced wide rounding the 800m turn.
COME PREPARED (D Rewald) raced wide for the majority of the event.
BLAKTAR (App G Steele) raced wide rounding the home turn.
A post race veterinary examination of CLEAR (S Galvin) which tailed off did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr R Little advised he will now consider retiring the gelding from racing.
Race 5: R M Williams/XXXX Gold Cup Open Handicap 1600 metres:
1st – REIGNING TO WIN 2nd – SECRETS 3rd – GREYS A ROCKING 4th – LUCASAM
Owner-trainer Mr R Simpson was interviewed by Stewards regarding his reason for accepting with NEPTUNE EXPRESS (NZ) for this race. The horse was a dual acceptor and raced in the previous race. Stewards accepted Mr Simpson’s explanation and ensured he has knowledge of the provisions of LR 38.
LACASAM (R Sue-San) and SECRETS (S Egan) overraced in the early stages.
LACASAM (R Sue-San) and BAROQUE STAR (D Rewald) both raced wide rounding the home turn.
