Mackay 31 July 2012 – Jockey S Sheargold was fined $100 for overweight on WESTERN YORK $100 - AR. 120(b).

Race 1: Isaac Regional Council Class B Handicap- 1000 metres
1st HEZA BIG UNIT 2nd TORNAZAKY 3rd ROSE OF LAWRENCE 4th- SASCHA’S SPIRIT

Apprentice J King claimed 1kilogram of his 2kilogram allowance on TORNAZAKY.

SASCHA’S SPIRIT (B Floyd) was slow away.

Both SASCHA’S SPIRIT and HEZA BIT UNIT (S McGovern) both raced wide throughout.

Race 2: BJ’S Services Class 4 Handicap- 1000 metres
1st FRAHA 2nd GAMBLE IN GOLD 3rd CALARABEN 4th- NOBLE LUSTRE

When Apprentice J King was to be overweight. Stewards permitted App King to ride GIVE IM ZA 1 ½ kilograms overweight due to no other riders available.

NOBLE LUSTRE (B Floyd) began awkwardly.

GIVE IM ZA (J King) began awkwardly.

MIST IN THE MORN (C McIver) raced wide throughout.


Race 3: Middlemount Coal Pty Ltd QTIS Maiden Plate - 1000 metres
1st– AIRGEAD 2nd – KIARA QUEEN 3rd ALLBARTHESHOUTING 4th- DELANNIKA

Apprentice J King claimed 1 kilogram of his 2 kilogram allowance on AIRGEAD.

When Jockey M Barnham was to be overweight on ALMOST RIGHT. Stewards permitted Jockey Barnham to ride ½ kilogram overweight as there were no other riders available. Jockey Barnham was fined $100 AR 120(b).

ALMOST RIGHT (M Barnham) was tightened at the start and lost ground when DELANNIKA (S McGovern) jumped out and ALLBARTHESHOUTING (B Floyd) jumped in. Jockey M Barnham reported that shortly after the tightening ALMOST RIGHT got its head up and didn’t stretch out until it was clear of the kickback from the horses in front.

Jockey S McGovern was reprimanded for not riding his horse out to the finish. Stewards took into account that it did not cost the horse a place.

Race 4: Anglo American Middlemount Cup Open Handicap - 1200 metres
1st CRAIGLEA CONVICT 2nd HUNTING LODGE 3rd BELLA SEA 4th – BORSHA’S WARRIOR


Apprentice J King was found to be overweight. Stewards permitted App King to ride BELLA SEA 1 kilogram overweight due to no other riders available.

SEVENTH HEART (T Bannon) was a late scratching at 3.02 p.m. after the gelding refused to be loaded. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SEVENTH HEART be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

15 cents in the dollar for the win #1 – CRAIGLEA CONVICT
17 cents in the dollar for place of winner #1 – CRAIGLEA CONVICT
14 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #1 – HUNTING LODGE

Stewards ordered that SEVENTH HEART must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to its next start.

HUNTING LODGE (C McIver) raced four wide throughout.

Jockey C McIver was found guilty to a charge under A.R. 137(b) in that he failed to ride HUNTINGLODGE out right to the finish. Jockey McIver was subsequently found guilty and was fined $300. Stewards took into account Jockey McIver’s record, that it hadnt cost the horse 1st place and also that it was a non tab event.

Apprentice J King was fined $400 for failing to claim his full allowance on 4 rides, 2 of which his was overweight.

Race 5: Become a Member of the RJC Open Handicap- 1200 metres
1st UNLUCKYFORSUM 2nd RYTARGA 3rd NORDIC WARRIOR 4th- JAMDIT

BAYBY GIRL (S Sheargold) was slow away.

RYTARGA (T Bannon) raced wide throughout.

NORDIC WARRIOR (B Floyd) was inclined to lay out in the middle stages and raced wide throughout.
