WEATHER - Fine TRACK – Good
RAIL – True position.
Race 1 XXXX Class 3 Hcp 1500m 14 Strs.
OBSTRUCTION, HIGH HOPE & TOP ROAD were slow away.
CENTURY SUNSET & BRENDY BOY jumped away awkwardly.
CALL ME SPLINTER got its head up and raced ungenerously in the early stages.
Rounding the home turn OURIMBAH was held up behind the tiring BATTLE RIVER.
When questioned over the performance of BATTLE RIVER Jockey D.Cash stated
that the gelding was resuming and travelled well until the 600m where it
began to lose ground under pressure. A vet examination failed to reveal any
abnormalities.
Race 2 Daily Mercury Open Hcp 1500m 12 Strs.
KARPANDA was obliged to race wide throughout.
When questioned over the seemingly disappointing performance of GENERAL TONG
and the riding tactics employed on that gelding Trainer N.Brown stated that
his instructions to Jockey S.Maloney were to make sure that GENERAL TONG
jumped well out of the barriers and then to settle the gelding off the pace.
He stated he was surprised to see GENERAL TONG racing in such a prominent
position to which is unsuitable to the gelding and wasn’t surprised to see
it under pressure from the 600m. Jockey S.Maloney stated that he thought his
instructions were to jump well and settle in a forward position and he was
of the opinion that GENERAL TONG resented having to chase the leader
DOLLINGER. Their explanations were noted. A vet inspection failed to reveal
any abnormalities.
Race 3 United Financial Services Maiden Hcp 1050m 11 Strs.
KINKA STAR was a late scratching at 11.25am when it was injured prior to the
meeting.
FIRE SPIRIT jumped in at the start and made heavy contact with BROWN EAGLE
which then shifted in and hampered STRATEGIC MOVE.
ABROAD was slow away.
S.Watkin was reprimanded for permitting his mount CONEEDA to shift in near
the 800m tightening the racing room of BLACK ASSAULT and FIRE SPIRIT. B.Appo was reprimanded for permitting his mount ABROAD to shift in near the
800m tightening the racing room of WESTERN FLASH, which had to be
restrained.
FIRE SPIRIT lost both hind plates in running.
Race 4 BRL Hardy Wines Class 2 Hcp 1050m 12 Strs.
App D.Johnston was unable to make the weight and was replaced as the rider
of BAY BEAUTY by B.Appo. App. Johnston was fined $100.00.
FOWEY SPIRIT was slow away.
BAY BEAUTY & VAIN CARLEY both jumped away awkwardly.
LITTLE COLLINS was obliged to race wide throughout.
HALF FLUSH was held up for clear running for the majority of the home
straight.
Race 5 Wanless Waste Corp Lightning Open Hcp 1050m 12 Strs.
App. D.Johnston was permitted to ride LA COOKARACHA 1kg overweight due to a
lack of riders.
MONO BLUE & JAAZEIRO were slow away.
ROMA LAD & PISTOL STAR jumped away awkwardly.
DARK SCOUT raced wide throughout.
Near the 200m ROMA LAD, which was attempting to gain a run between NATHAN’S
PLEASURE & DARK SCOUT where there was insufficient room to do so clipped the
heels of DARK SCOUT and blundered. In this incident DARK SCOUT shifted out
under pressure and JAAZEIRO shifted in slightly, which resulted in NATHAN’S
PLEASURE also having to be restrained. Jockey B.Binder the rider of DARK
SCOUT was reprimanded for not making an effort to keep his mount straight.
Race 6 Boomerang Hotel Class 5 Hcp 1050m 12 Strs.
App. D.Johnston was permitted to ride DEVIL’S WALK 1kg overweight due to a
lack of riders.
CRACKER JACK & STYMIE were slow away.
Jockey R.Pujolas the rider of PASSER PASSION was reminded of his obligations
under Australian Rule of racing 137 (b) in that he must ride his mount out
to the end of the race.
Jockey D.Lloyd was reprimanded for weighing in overweight.
CRACKER JACK which was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping and which
finished a long last was inspected by the vet and was found to have injured
its off side hip and stifle.
All winners were sent to be swabbed.
