WEATHER - Fine TRACK – Good
RAIL – True position.
GENERAL – Trainer J. Manzelmann was fined $50 for nominating MARAUDING ROGUE for the Class 4 Hcp a race for which it was ineligible.
Race 1 Hayley’s Big Birthday Class 2 Hcp 1500m.
Trainer M. Crouch was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for CHARNWOOD PRINCE by the required time.
AEROBIC REBEL made contact the inside rail near the 1200m.
Race 2 New Pioneer Motors Class 6 Hcp 1500m.
TOP MOVE jumped away awkwardly.
R. Mules the rider of KEA LEAH accidentally dropped his whip near the 450m.
Race 3 Bill Cooper & Assoc Maiden Hcp 1050m.
DO THE TWIST & HIP HIP HURRAH were both fractious in the barriers.
Jockey D. Lloyd was cautioned for permitting his mount NOISY CREW to shift in soon after the start tightening the running of MAJOR BLAZE.
Race 4 Swift Engineering Open Hcp 1050m.
TELKALA was slow away.
Near the 500m TELKALA had to momentarily be steadied off the heels of ANALYTIC.
Approaching the 200m TENERANI shifted in and momentarily tightened the running of ANALYTIC.
Race 5 P Comino & Son 70th Anniversary Class 4 Hcp 1050m.
ROYAL CANNON, which got away from its handler was inspected by the vet prior to this event and passed fit to start.
HARRY JUNIOR was a late scratching at 2.48pm by order of the stewards when it was discovered that the ownership of the gelding was not in order. Ms. L. Horstman the trainer of HARRY JUNIOR was fined $100 for failing to obey a proper direction of an official after being previously directed to affect the transfer.
DEPATRO jumped away awkwardly.
BROTHER TAZ was slow away.
Passing the 200m ROYAL CANNON had to be checked when it was unable to obtain clear running between MR SLEEPY & DEPATRO.
DADDY’S LITTLE MAN was held up for clear running for a large portion of the home straight.
When questioned over the different riding tactics employed on CHLOELLA today Jockey R. Mules stated that because there appeared to be a some speed in the race that from the outside alley he was instructed to go forward if the mare jumped well but to not use her up to lead if necessary. Trainer W. Pomfrett confirmed that he didn’t want the mare bustled and used up to go forward early from a wide alley and that R. Mules was to decide where to have the mare racing comfortably after the field had jumped. Their comments were noted and Trainer W. Pomfrett was advised that if there be any significant changes to riding tactics he must inform the stewards prior to the event.
ROYAL CANNON bled from both nostrils and as it is the second occasion the gelding had suffered a bleeding attack was automatically barred from racing for life. ROYAL CANNON was swabbed.
Race 6 ABN Amro Morgan’s Class 1 Hcp 1250m.
Trainer M.Crouch was fined $25 for presenting DARBEAR in the enclosure with the incorrect gear.
SILLY MISTAKE & PLIANCY both jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
An inquiry was opened into the reason(s) SECRET ROAD ridden by P. Williams fell near the 400m. After taking evidence from riders R. Mules, M. Young, R. Pujolas, S. Watkin, D. Lloyd, D. Jones and W. Binder the inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed so that P. Williams can give evidence. In this incident DARBEAR, BRAVEBAUM and PLIANCY suffered interference whilst attempting to avoid the stricken horse and rider. SECRET ROAD fractured its near fore cannon and off fore fetlock in this incident and was humanely euthanased.
The winners of races 1 to 5 were sent to be swabbed as was Royal Cannon which bled.
Pre race swabs were taken from the following –
Race 5 – Depatro, Daraloe, Royal Cannon.
Race 6 – Ceetu, Pliancy, Secret Watch.
