STEWARDS PANEL: G. Hargraves (ch), B. Chestermaster, T. Moloney.

GENERAL – Trainer O. Cairns was fined $50 for nominating JAGDEM for the 2 & 3yo Maiden Hcp a race for which it was ineligible.
RACE 1 M & P TILT TRAY CLASS 5 HCP 1500M.
When questioned over the seemingly disappointing performance of DEVICE rider J.Cairns stated that the gelding never felt comfortable in the slow going and was labouring a long way from the finish. A post race vet inspection of DEVICE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 2 JAMES HARDIE CLASS 3 HCP 1050M.
Trainer M. Crouch was fined $25 for the late lodgement of a stable return for SPEND IT.
CELTIC BLUE was slow away.
STARVITE was trapped wide throughout.
BABY SPICE lost its near hind plate in running.
When questioned over the seemingly disappointing performance of CELTIC BLUE rider D. Simmons stated that after beginning slowly the gelding failed to stretch out. He added that he felt CELTIC BLUE handled the going and was at a loss to explain its effort. A post race vet inspection failed to reveal any abnormalities. CELTIC BLUE was swabbed.
RACE 3 TAUBMAN’S QTIS 2YO & 3YO MAIDEN HCP 1050M.
ABNOO’S SEQUEL was slow away and raced wide throughout.
When questioned over the seemingly disappointing performance of first starter LET’S GO LORRIE rider D. Simmons stated that after travelling well throughout the filly compounded badly in the straight when he felt it may have locked up in the stifles. When questioned over his tactics in the early stages he added that LET’S GO LORRIE is a filly that in its trials races forward on the bit and any attempt to settle the filly usually results in it racing fiercer. A post race vet inspection failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
When questioned over the seemingly disappointing performance of LUXURY EXPRESS rider R. Mules stated that the gelding failed to handle the going and as LUXURY EXPRESS was resuming from a long spell felt the extra effort in the going took its affect. His comments were noted. A post race vet inspection failed to reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 4 IDEAL ELECTRICAL CLASS 4 HCP 1250M.
DAMASCUS CALLING was slow away.
EYE CATCHING jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 800m CAREFUL LOVE had to be steadied when tightened for room to the inside of EYE CATCHING which was momentarily taken in by ACQUIRE.
Near the 600m and again near the 450m CAREFUL LOVE had to be checked off the heels of the tiring EYE CATCHING.
When questioned over the seemingly disappointing performance of EYE CATCHING rider R. Pujolas stated that the gelding travelled well until the 600m when it began to compound. He added that EYE CATCHING felt sore and didn’t want to stretch out and that maybe the gelding resented the going. A post race vet examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
Jockey M. Young injured his shoulder during the running of this race and had to forego the remainder of his rides.
RACE 5 DARRYL CONNOR MEMORIAL SPONSORED BY WOODMANS MITRE 10 OPEN HCP 1250M.
Approaching the 900m FLASH TUNE became unbalanced after it made heavy contact with NADZAB DRIVE.
NADZAB DRIVE raced wide throughout.
JAAZEIRO was held up for clear running approaching the 200m.
When questioned over the seemingly disappointing performance of CHARLIE HORSE rider J. Cairns stated that the gelding failed to handle the going. He added that CHARLIE HORSE was hit in the face by large clods of mud on several occasions during running which may have also had a detrimental affect on the gelding. A post race vet examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 6 ONE STEEL REINFORCING BRACELET CLASS 1 HCP 1250M.
Trainer M. Crouch was fined $25 for presenting RAELAD in the enclosure without blinkers.
Apprentice L. Timson replaced M. Young as the rider of BALBRIDIE.
MANZALA jumped in at the start and made heavy contact with KIRRAWA.
Near the 1000m BALBRIDIE shifted out abruptly and hampered MOLLIE.
Near the 900m CEETU had to be steadied off the heels of BOURBONNAIS.
Apprentice D. Johnston was cautioned for allowing his mount BURBONNAIS to shift out under pressure on straightening taking MOLLIE out onto CEETU, which was tightened for room and had to be steadied.
RACE 7 HOT FM M.A.T.C. CUP OPEN HCP 1800M.
R. Mules replaced M. Young as the rider of SANTA WEARS RED.
SANTA WEARS RED, which had been fractious in the barriers, was slow away.
ALL WINNERS AND CELTIC BLUE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
