Race 1: WIN Television Class 4 Handicap - 1800m:
1st - POOCHA 2nd - MUM’S THE WORD 3rd - CALAIS BOUND 4th - FLYING VIKING
MUM’S THE WORK (A.Cox) knuckled when leaving the barriers as the gates opened.
THUNDERFUL (App R.Plumb) over-raced in the early stages of the event.
Race 2: XXXXGOLD Maiden Handicap - 1050m:
1st - SEQUALO BUCK 2nd - MIGHT RECITE 3rd - PRETTY SWISH 4th – VALETTA CITY
Jockey F Edwards replaced Jockey D Green on MONASH GRADUATE.
NEVANDY (P Cullen) and PRETTY SWISH (L Timson) were slow into stride.
Approaching the 700 metre mark VALETTA CITY (D Lloyd) clipped the hind quarters of MONACIUS (D Evans). Jockey Lloyd reported to Stewards that his mount travelled greenly the entire journey and shifted away from horses travelling to his outside.
Race 3: Mackay Cup Sponsors Club, Class 5 Handicap - 1050m:
1st - KING OF COMIC 2nd - BOURVERIE’S JEST 3rd -HIGH RANGER 4th -TO THE TEST
TO THE TEST (D Tanti) and SKIMBLESHANKS ( A Cox) were slow into stride.
Approaching the 800 metre mark, DANISH HEIR (G Cullen) became awkward on the heels of CHOSEN CALIBRE (App L Fyfe) and became unbalanced momentarily.
Approaching the 600 metre mark TO THE TEST (D Tanti) rolled out taking HIT AND MIST (G McKeon) wide. As a result, SKIMBLESHANKS ( A Cox) was eased.
CHOSEN CALIBRE (App L Fyfe) was inclined to hang inwards from the about the 450 metre mark to the home turn.
Race 4: Connole Carlisle Accountants Handicap - 1500m:
1st - WISE THOUGHTS 2nd - BORZOV 3rd - GAZZAM 4th – DANCING POTTER
GAZZAM (G Kliese) and GLEN IDOL (D Lloyd) were slow into stride.
LARCENY (R Plumb) dwelt at the start.
PROUD BUCK (G McKeon) overraced in the early and middle stages.
Approaching the 1200 metre mark, LARCENY (R Plumb) eased off the heels of WISE THOUGHTS (D Evans) when shifting outwards.
GAZZAM (G Kliese) was obliged to race wide from the 600 metres to the home turn.
A protest was lodged by the rider of second placegetter BORZOV (J Stopps) against first placegetter WISE THOUGHTS (D Evans) being declared the winner and alleging interference from approximately the 300 metre mark to the winning post. After considering all the evidence Stewards dismissed the protest. In dismissing the protest Stewards were of the opinion that BORZOV shifted away from WISE THOUGHTS.
Race 5: Mackay Cup Sponsors Club Class 2 Handicap - 1500m:
1st - LORD GRANGE 2nd - SMART AND SUAVE 3rd - LARRIKIN LANCE 4th - CHABBAZ (NZ)
LORD GRANGE (D Evans) was inclined to overrace in the early stages of the race.
When the rounding the home turn, MOORABBIN OVAL (J Stanley) got awkward on the heels of TEST IN TIME (G Cullen) and as a result shifted inwards and made contact with KULAK (R McMahon).
Race 6: C.E.Smith & CO QTIS Class 1 Handicap - 1250m:
1st - SHADDOCK 2nd - SWING THE BLUES 3rd - ROBIN THE FROG 4th – MIGHTY EMPEROR
MIGHTY EMPEROR (R Barone) was slow into stride.
Approaching the 800 metre mark PROTOTYPE (J Stephens) stepped inwards and brushed MIGHTY EMPEROR (R Barone).
Approaching the 600 metre mark, JOE”S FURY (G Cullen) when racing inside of PROTOTYPE (J Stephens) eased off the heels of MY MAREMOSSO (NZ) (L.Timson) which hung out on the turn.
Race 7: Connole Carlisle Accountants Class 6 Handicap 1250m:
1st -REPOSSESSION 2nd - DANZIG WARRIOR 3rd -LET’S GO RAW 4th -COLONIAL EXPRESS
As the gates opened POKOMO (D Evans) stood flatfooted losing ground.
Approaching the 200 metre mark, DUSTY’S MAGIC (D Tanti) shifted outward brushing the hind quarters of DANZIG WARRIOR (R Barone) turning that gelding inwards. As a result, DANZIG WARRIOR (R Barone) then shifted inwards inconveniencing DUSTY’S MAGIC.
Race 8: QRSE I.T. Engineering (QLD) Class 3 Handicap - 1250m:
1st - OLD GOLD FOR ME 2nd - FOUR JACKS 3rd - ORRONG 4th - QUALO STAR
As the gates opened, QUALO STAR (M Barnham) jumped outward tightening CHIEF EAGLE EYED ( D Lloyd) and THOMSON (R McMahon)
THOMSON (R McMahon raced greenly in the early and middle stages of the race.
Approaching the 800 metre mark, DINI WHO (D Evans) awkward on the heels of STAR REVUNDO (F Edwards) when being eased.
Approaching the 200 metre mark, BURRAWONG BOY (J Stanley) shifted outwards and QUALO STAR (M Barnham) shifted inwards as a result ORRONG (D Tanti) became momentarily unbalanced on the heels of QUALO STAR. Jockey J Stanley and Jockey M Barnham were both cautioned by the Stewards and advised to exercise more care.
GENERAL
Stewards will be seeking an explanation from Jockey Davin Green over his failure to meet his obligations to ride in Race Two on Monash Graduate.
Trainer D Crouch was given a directive that he is to sight the licence card of any future employees prior to engaging them in employment and to ensure that licence cards must be in his name.
Stewards considered a submission from Jockey J Stephens over a riding engagement claim on the horse MIGHTY BLAZE. Stewards ordered that the winning and losing riding fee be paid to Jockey Stephens.
Trainer Bevan Laming was fined the sum of two hundred dollars for not scratching the horse WITLACE by the prescribed time.
