MACKAY – TUESDAY 28TH JUNE 2011
Race 2 – WIN Class 1 Handicap 1050m:
Trainer Mr D. Durand was advised that JAZZSHINKO, which refused to load, would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
Race 7 – Daily Mercury Class 4 Handicap 1500m:
Trainer Mr A. Payne was questioned in relation to the performance of VALVETRON. Mr Payne stated that he was extremely disappointed with the performance, however when he had his stable veterinarian examine the gelding it was found to have a wind abnormality and therefore VALVETRON has been retired from racing. Nonetheless, Mr Payne was advised that, should VALVETRON return to racing, it will be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again, and also Mr Payne must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness.

Race 6 – Tropical Ice Big Chill Open Handicap 1000m
Trainer Ms O. Cairns was fined $100 under A.R. 140B for presenting and racing ANDAMON in other than its approved gear, namely, with blinkers.

Race 2 – The Avenues Tavern Class 3 Handicap 1630m
Trainer R. Chillemi advised that RESIDENCE ad pulled up fine following the event.. The only tangible explanaction Mr Chillemi could offer for the disappointing performance of RESIDENCE was that the gelding may have jarred up from the firm surface, combined with the fact that it was the gelding’s first attempt at 1630 metres, which it may not have handled. Mr Chillemi confirmed that RESIDENCE would be dropped back in distance at its next start.
Race 5 – TPI Association Winter Cup Open Handicap 2100 metres
When questioned as to the performance of MOLOTOV, trainer J. Stanton stated that after beginning only fairly and after receiving interference passing the winning post on the first occasion, the jockey attempted to improve his position near the 600 metres, at which point MOLOTOV responded but was able to finish the race off only fairly. Bearing in mind the ground lost in the early stages of the event, Mr Stanton was not entirely disappointed with the performance of MOLOTOV. Mr Stanton advised that MOLOTOV has since been transferred to another stable.
Race 6 WHK Weight For Age 1200 metres
Trainer G. Dickson advised that BLACK MORGAN had pulled up fine following the event. Mr Dickson could not offer any tangible explanation for the disappointing performance except to say that the gelding may not be suited under Weight for Age conditions.

Jockeys O. Turpin, J. Stanley, D. Simmons and C. Whiteley and Apprentice S. Arnold were fined $100 each under A.R. 160B(3) for having mobile phones in their possession in the jockeys’ room. Jockey C. Whiteley was fined $200 under A.R.175(gg) for making a false or misleading statement in regard to his possession of a mobile phone in the jockeys’ room. In assessing penalties stewards took into account that all riders surrendered their mobile phones to the stewards when requested to do so.
Race 1: QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap 1250m
1st – HALLOWED PEARL 2nd – CRAIGLEA COBRA 3rd – TAKOTNA 4th - SET TO REIGN
The start was delayed when the ambulance failed to arrive on course by the prescribed time.
CRAIGLEA COBRA (A. Pattillo) was slow to begin, then raced wide throughout.
In the early and middle stages TAKOTNA (D. Missen) raced wide.
Leaving the 600 metres BACKSTAGE AFFAIR (D. Tanti) was tightened for room, hung out and had to be steadied from the heels of DESERT PLAYBOY (App. B. Richardson).
When questioned as to the performance of BACKSTAGE AFFAIR, Jockey D. Tanti stated that the filly was able to obtain the lead comfortably, however approaching the 700 metres when TAKOTNA (D. Missen) improved to its inside the filly resented racing to the inside of that horse and commenced to lose ground. Trainer A. Suli said that BACKSTAGE AFFAIR had worked well leading into today’s event and he was at a loss to explain the performance. Mr Suli added that the filly will now be sent for a spell. Nonetheless, he was advised that a warning has been placed on the racing manners of the filly. A post-race veterinary examination of BACKSTAGE AFFAIR did not reveal any abnormalities. The explanations were noted.
SET TO REIGN (I. Toward) raced wide throughout.
Race 2: HOT FM MAIDE N HANDICAP 1 250M
1st – DELAGO RAIDER 2nd – PROHIBIT 3rd – STANSAVANNA 4th - BLUE PEREGRINE
PROHIBIT (App. S. Arnold) reared on jumping.
When the start was effected THE REGAL ONE (N. Patchett) stood flat-footed and lost ground. Trainer J. Pointon was advised that THE REGAL ONE must perform satisfactorily in a jump-out before being permitted to race again.
In the middle stages THE REGAL ONE (N. Patchett) raced wide.
Near the 300 metres BLUE PEREGRINE (C. Whiteley) had to be steadied and shifted to the inside of STANSAVANNA (N. Evans), which shifted out. Jockey Evans was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Approaching the 100 metres BLUE PEREGRINE (C. Whiteley) laid in and made contact with NOT LEGAL (T. Bannon), which was weakening.
Race 3: WIN TV CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1050M
1st - EIGHT PIECES 2nd – NERANGATANG 3rd – FLYER BELLE 4th – INNOCENT JACK
KLITSCHKO was a late scratching, at 12 noon, by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice.
Trainer D. Symons was fined $100 under A.R.140B for presenting EIGHT PIECES with other than its approved gear, namely without winkers.
Apprentice S. McCullum pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R.137(a) in that shortly after the start he permitted INNOCENT JACK to shift in when insufficiently clear of GOLDEN QUALO (App. C. Pye), which had to be eased to avoid the heels of INNOCENT JACK, which continued to shift in, taking FLYER BELLE (C. Whiteley) in onto EIGHT PIECES (D. Missen), which had to be steadied. Apprentice McCullum was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 2 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday, 9th July 2011, up to and including midnight on Saturday 16th July 2011.
In the early stages GOLDEN QUALO (App. C. Pye) raced ungenerously and hung out.
Apprentice S. McCullum pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R.137(a) in that leaving the 800 metres he permitted INNOCENT JACK to shift in when insufficient ly clear of EIGHT PIECES (D. Missen), which clipped the heels of NERANGATANG (D. Simmons), shifted in and tightened the running of THREE LITTLE WORDS (A. Pattillo). App. McCullum was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 3 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday 9th July 2011, up to and including midnight on Saturday 23rd July 2011, to be served concurrently with the suspension imposed in respect of an incident earlier in this race.
A post-race veterinary examination of NERANGTANG (D. Simmons) revealed that the mare had sustained a skin abrasion to the top of the tendon area.
Race 4: XXXX GOLD CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1500M
1st – MULE FORTY SIX 2nd – SPEEDSKATER 3rd – NAUTICAT 4th – FORECLOSURE
Trainer D. Symons advised stewards that FORECLOSURE will be ridden in a handy position if possible. Public announcements were made to this effect.
RED SAVANNAH (D. Tanti) was slow to begin.
FORECLOSURE (App. S. Arnold) began awkwardly.
In the early stages GARRISON GOLD (App. A. Taylor) raced wide.
In the early and middle stages SPEEDSKATER (A. Coome) raced wide.
ANDROCITY (D. Simmons) and JOYFUL LADY (I. Toward) raced wide throughout.
When questioned as to the performance of GARRISON GOLD, Apprentice A. Taylor stated that she was instructed to allow the gelding to settle off the pace, if the circumstances permitted. App. Taylor said that after being a little slow to begin, the gelding was forced to race wide throughout and when placed under pressure from the 400 metres failed to respond to her riding. Apprentice Taylor added that in her opinion the gelding failed to run out the 1500 metres of today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination of GARRISON GOLD did not reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 5: RED CARPET 32 CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1500M
1st – RUSTY HUNTER 2nd – SECRETS 3rd – LEFT HOOK 4th – IDOCRASE
SKY DEVIL (App. A. Butler) raced wide throughout.
When questioned about the disappointing performance of EASY CASH App. A. Taylor stated that after beginning well the gelding never travelled comfortably at any stage and when placed under pressure leaving the 400 metres. failed to respond to her riding. Trainer J. Brown was at a loss to explain the performance other than that the gelding may not have appreciated the tight racing circuit. A post-race veterinary examination of EASY CASH did not reveal any abnormalities. Mr Brown undertook to report if anything was amiss with the gelding in the days following the event. A post-race veterinary examination of EASY CASH (App. A. Taylor) did not reveal any significant abnormalities.
Jockey I. Toward will be interviewed in regard to his use of the whip on LEFT HOOK.
Race 6: Carlisle Motors 2011 Mackay Newmarket Open Handicap 1250m:
1st – MONDEAN 2nd – TAORMINA 3rd – RED STORY 4th – BAZZOOKA
TANTAT SECRET (D. Simmons) and BLITZKRIEG (C. Whiteley) were slow to begin.
On jumping KING OF THE KONGO (A. Pattillo), was tightened for room between ANDAMON (M. Elliott) and MONDEAN (D. Missen), both of which shifted ground.

Rounding the home turn TAORMINA (T. Bannon was held up for clear running and then was disappointed for a run between AL’S BEST MATE (J. Stanley) and MONDEAN (D. Missen).
In the early part of the straight TAORMINA (T. Bannon) was held up for clear running.
For the majority of the event BAZZOOKA (A. Coome) raced wide.
WHARTON WILLIE (N. Patchett) raced wide throughout.
Race 7: DAILY MERCURY CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1250M
1st – CATABOLIC 2nd – NAIL ‘EM 3rd – CHECKER CHAMP 4th – CLICK UP
Acting on a confirmed telephone call MONNIE was declared a late withdrawal at 8.19pm on veterinary advice.
CATABOLIC (App. B. Richardson) lost its near hind plate in running.
VANTABULOUS (I. Toward), SARBI (App. C. Pye) and LION D’OR (S. Watkin) were slow to begin.
Shortly after the start LION D’OR (S. Watkin had to be eased when tightened for room between CATABOLIC (App. B. Richardson) and NAIL ‘EM (N. Patchett), which shifted in.
Jockey N. Evans was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 800 metres he permitted BLUMBERG to shift in when insufficiently clear of CHOCOLATE AND LACE (T. Bannon), which was taken in onto CATABOLIC (App. B. Richardson), which lost its rightful running. Jockey Evans was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 6 meetings, to commence at midnight on 16th July 2011, up to and including midnight on Sunday 24th July 2011.
In the early part of the straight CATABOLIC (App. B. Richardson) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.
Apprentice S. Arnold reported that CONTOUR LINE hung out from the 700 metres.
Approaching the 100 metres CHECKER CHAMP (S. Sheargold) shifted in, despite the efforts of its rider, and bumped COCO LOCO (D. Simmons).
CONTOUR LINE (App. S. Arnold) and CHECKER CHAMP (S. Sheargold) raced wide throughout.
An inquiry into the reason for SARBI (App. C. Pye) having to be checked near the 150 metres was adjourned.
