When Jockey A. Merritt was unable to fulfil his engagements due to personal reasons, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: AE Smith QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap – 1100 metres
1st – RISHONA 2nd – CRAIGLEA MODEL 3rd – VATICAN’S STAR 4th – SPARKLING ZIZOU
HOLD THAT THOUGHT (App. A. Taylor) began awkwardly and raced greenly throughout.
Shortly after the start SPARKLING ZIZOU (J. Babarovich) shifted out and bumped HOLD THAT THOUGHT (App. A. Taylor).
Race 2: DGH Engineering Maiden Plate - 1300 metres
1st – MISHANI ACE 2nd - JPLLYBPAN JAR 3rd – BENTLEY’S BEST 4th – MY OLDE GOLD
After arriving behind the barriers PHOEBE FOR ME (T. Bannon) had to be re-saddled.
PESAMINO (App. C. Pye) was slow to begin.
In the straight JELLYBEAN JAR (T. O’Hara) laid in under pressure.
Race 3: - Sharps Heavy Equipment Repairs Class 3 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st – GOLD COAST GIRL 2nd – DELAGO RAIDER 3rd – LUCASAM 4th – SPEEDSKATER
GOLD COAST GIRL (App. A. Butler) raced wide throughout.
When asked about the performance of DRAGONS BLETCH, Jockey T. Bannon said that the gelding was having its second start following a spell, after its winning run at Mackay on 5th May. Jockey Bannon noted that DRAGONS BLETCH was a beaten horse shortly after straightening for home.
Race 4: Champion C Stud Equestrian Class 1 Handicap – 1560 metres
1st – SARBI 2nd – MUKTASHEF 3rd – FERTIRO 4th – FIREPIT
WHO’S THE DUDE NOW (S. McGovern) began awkwardly.
SARBI (App. A. Hearn) was slow to begin.
In the early stages MUKTASHEF (D. Missen) over-raced.
Near the 1300 metres FIREPIT (T. Bannon) had to be eased when tightened for room between SARBI (App. A. Hearn) and WHO’S THE DUDE NOW (S. McGovern), which had been laying in and shifted in slightly.
From the entrance to the straight until passing the 200 metres FAWZA (J. Babarovich) was held up and unable to obtain clear running.
Near the 200 metres Jockey C. McIver, the rider of SPOTTED EAGLE, accidentally dropped his whip.
Approaching the 100 metres TEAM MACAROMA (L. Dillon) had to be eased when tightened for room between SPOTTED EAGLE (C. McIver), which had shifted out slightly, and SARBI ( A. Hearn), which shifted in. Apprentice Hearn was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
At the 100 metres FAWZA (J. Babarovich) and GHIACCIO (App. C. Pye) came together.
GHIACCIO (App. C. Pye) and WHO’S THE DUDE NOW (S. McGovern) raced wide throughout.
Race 5: Hillross Mackay Class 6 Plate – 1300 metres
1st – HUSSANA 2nd – HERITAGE STAR 3rd – MASSURI 4th – IL CARDINALE
SIR NICK (L. Dillon) began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped VITREOUS (App. A. Hearn).
Race 6: A1 Battery Pro QTIS 600 2-Y-O Plate – 1200 metres
1st – AVALADYLUCK 2nd – BLACKJACK DAVEY 3rd – CRAIGLEA CARINA 4th – MAXIMUM COMMAND
When Jockey A. Coome was injured in the parade ring Apprentice A. Butler was substituted as the rider of AVALADYLUCK. Jockey Coome was unable to fulfil his further engagements and substitutions were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet. Jockey Coome will be advised that he must provide a medical clearance before being permitted to ride again.
Shortly after the start MY LEGA CI (N. Patchett) attempted to buck. Trainer Mr J. Manzelmann was advised that a warning will be placed on the racing manners of the filly and should it perform in a similar manner in future, more direct action may have to be taken.
At the entrance to the home straight CEDARSTAR (J. Stephens) had to be eased to avoid the heels of MAXIMUM COMMAND (L. Dillon), which shifted out slightly.
For the majority of the race CRAIGLEA TEQUILA (D. Missen) hung out.
Apprentice A. Butler, the rider of AVALADYLUCK was fined $300 under A.R. 137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.
Jockey D. Missen, the rider of CRAIGLEA TEQUILA, reported that the gelding hung out badly for the majority of the race, resulting in him being unable to test his mount in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of CRAIGLEA TEQUILA did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer P. Fleming stated that consideration would be given to send CRAIGLEA TEQUILA for a spell. Nervertheless, stewards advised Mr Fleming that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to being permitted to race again.
Race 7: Affordable RV Transport Class 2 Handicap – 1100 metres
1st – SWEET VAMP 2nd – KISS THE GROOM 3rd – RUSHATUS 4th – SHEZA FALVELON
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer S. Kendrick for the dual engagement of Jockey A. Coome for SHEZA FALVALON and SWEET VAMP. App. A. Butler was substituted as the rider of SHEZA FALVALON when no suitable senior rider was available.
Trainer Mr S. Kendrick was fined $100 under A.R.140B for presenting SHEZA FALVELON in the mounting yard with other than its approved gear, namely, without blinkers.
On jumping, BROTHER BOB (App. C. Pye) reared and lost ground.
JAZZSHINKO (C. McIver) began awkwardly.
LAYLA (App. A. Hearn) was slow to begin and shortly after the start had to be eased off the heels of JAZZSHINKO (C. McIver).
Shortly after the start MONNIE (T. Bannon) had to be steadied when tightened for room between SWEET VAMP (L. Dillon) and CRAIGLEA MARLENA (M. Elliott), which shifted out slightly.
In the early part of the straight MONNIE (T. Bannon) was held up and unable to obtain clear running until leaving the 200 metres.
For a short distance near the 200 metres CRAIGLEA MARLENA (M. Elliott) was held up for clear running.
JAZZSHINKO (C. McIver) proved very difficult to load into the barriers. Subject to any further submissions from Trainer D. Durand, he will be advised that, having in mind the previous record of JAZZSHINKO, in this regard, the horse must perform satisfactorily in an official trial prior to being permitted to start again.Trainer D. Durand will be interviewed also as to why he left the course before the prescribed time.
Jockey L. Dillon was reprimanded under A.R.137A(3) for his use of the whip on SWEET VAMP in the straight. In assessing penalty stewards took into account Jockey Dillon’s previous good record in this regard.
When questioned as to the performance of BROTHER BOB, App. C. Pye explained that she had been instructed to lead if possible. App. Pye said that after beginning awkwardly BROTHER BOB pulled hard and therefore she rode the gelding forward, however was obliged to race three wide.
Race 8: BB Print Benchmark 79 Handicap – 1100 metres
1st – YOU DONE IT AGAIN 2nd – WHITSUNDAY EXPRESS 3rd – JAD 4th – ORIENTELLE
BLACK MORGAN (C. McIver) reared on jumping and lost ground.
SHELDON (N. Patchett) and IMPALA (L. Dillon) began awkwardly.
IMPALA (L. Dillon) raced wide throughout.
Jockey D. Missen, the rider of CARMENATOR which performed poorly, explained that the gelding travelled well until the home turn, but then was a beaten horse shortly afterwards.
