GENERAL:
When an interstate meeting was cancelled, the starting times for all events were amended as follows: RACE 1, from 1.41p.m. to 1.55 p.m.; RACE 2, from 2.18 p.m. to 2.30 p.m.; RACE 3, from 2.53 p.m. to 3.05 p.m.; RACE 4, from 3.28 p.m. to 3.40 p.m.; RACE 5, from 4.03 p.m.; RACE 6, from 4.38 p.m. to 4.53 p.m.
Race 1: Barcam Electrical Maiden Handicap – 1100 metres
1st – CANDENTE 2nd - HIDDEN BURST 3rd – SPARKLING ZIZOU 4th – CORE WRITER
On jumping, SPARKLING ZIZOU (T. Bannon) shifted in slightly and brushed the hindquarters of DUAN SNIPPY (App. C. Pye), then shortly afterwards shifted out and hampered BULL’S COMING (App. A. Taylor).
At the entrance to the home straight FOUR EX SQUARE (D. Simmons), which was laying out, had to be eased to avoid the heels of SPARKLING ZIZOU (T. Bannon).
In the home straight SPARKLING ZIZOU (T. Bannon) laid in under pressure.
Near the 500 metres FOUR EX SQUARE (D. Simmons) had to be eased to avoid the heels of HIDDEN BURST (App. Allen), which shifted in slightly. Apprentice Allen was reprimanded and informed that in similar circumstances he would be expected to show more care when shifting ground.
Race 2: RPS Class 5 Handicap - 1100 Metres
1st – JOHN’S SPE CIAL 2nd - MAECENUS 3RD – SO PRETENTIOUS 4th – DACK’S FAZ
TAMILDA (S. Pawsey) began awkwardly and lost ground.
Race 3: - Milton House Picture Framers Class 1 Plate - 1200 metres
1st – SHOWMETHEMONEY 2nd – HIGH PAYOFF 3rd – MONNIE 4th – RUSHATUS
Near the 900 metres BROTHER BOB (D. Simmons) shifted in slightly and brushed the running rail.
In the early part of the straight BROTHER BOB (D. Simmons) had a tendency to lay in;
Following the race it was noted that HIGH PAYOFF (App. A. Allen) had bled from both nostrils. As this was the first occasion on which the gelding had bled, trainer W. Winters was advised that HIGH PAYOFF will be barred from racing for 3 months under A. R. 53A.
Race 4: Building Supplies Class 2 Handicap – 800 metres
1st – ASSERTIVE ALBERT 2nd – FRAHA 3rd – GIG GUIDE 4th – RED DASH
Apprentice A. Allen was reprimanded under A.R. 144 for failing to weigh in after riding MAID OF FALVELON, which finished fifth.
When questioned as to the performance of YUN FAT, trainer T. Cook stated that he was disappointed with the run, however he was of the opinion that the mare will be better suited in races over a longer distance than today’s event.
Race 5: Dowdens Pumping Lightning Open Handicap – 1050 metres
1st – COCKTAIL SUPREME 2nd – ORIENTELLE 3rd – FOUR IRON 4th – JAD
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer R. Vale for the late declaration of Jockey C. McIver as the rider of RUSTY HUNTER.
Near the 500 metres CARMENATOR (App. A. Allen) had to be eased when tightened for room between JAD (J. Babarovich) and FOUR IRON (S. Pawsey), which was racing to the outside of CARMENATOR. Jockey Pawsey was severely reprimanded and informed that in future he would be expected to give his fellow riders sufficient galloping room.
Race 6: In The Booth Class 3 Plate – 1560 metres
1st – BEAR IN THERE 2nd – SARBI 3rd – BLAST OUT OF HERE 4th – DELAGO RAIDER
When Jockey S. Sheargold was unavailable for personal reasons, Jockey S. Pawsey was substituted as the rider of GETAWAY PLAN.
DELAGO RAIDER (D. Missen) reared on jumping then shifted in and bumped BREAK OF DAWN (D. Simmons), which was taken in onto SARBI (App. A. Allen).
In the early stages SARBI (App. A. Allen) over-raced.
At the 100 metres App. A. Allen, the rider of SARBI, accidentally dropped his whip.
