The starting times for all races were amended as follows:
RACE 1: 1.24 p.m.; RACE 2: 2.04 p.m.; RACE 3: 2.44 p.m.; RACE 4: 3.24p.m.; RACE 5: 4.04 p.m.; RACE 6: 4.44 p.m.
Race 1: Autocorner Maiden Plate - 1560 metres
1st DR MORGUN 2nd HAYYLER’S HELL 3rd MISS MEDAZ 4th - INTERRUPTION
STAR SPRAY (J. Babarovich) was slow to begin. Following the race Jockey J. Babarovich reported that STAR SPRAY was short in its action. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Near the 300 metres DR MORGUN (T. O’Hara) shifted out and bumped MISS MEDAZ (T Bannon).
Race 2: Hillross Mackay Class 1 Handicap - 1560 metres
1st SWEET SONG 2nd BENTLEY’S BEST 3rd LADY BULLMORE 4th - FATAL AFFAIR
At the start THAT’S WHAT I WANT (J. Babarovich) shifted out across the heels of BENTLEYS BEST (A. Dykes) and then in the early stages over-raced.
Jockey J. P. Stanley reported that RIDE LIKE THE WIND felt fine in its action and travelled well until placed under pressure approaching the home straight where it failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 3: Transit Tyres Class 1 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st – TUPPENY’S OPINION 2nd KILLER WASP 3rd CRAIGLEA STELLAR 4th - MY LEGA CI
BIG BERT (D. Simmons) began awkwardly.
ROCKETMOUNTAINHIGH (T. O’Hara) over-raced in the early stages.
From the early stages until the end of the event BIG BERT (D. Simmons) raced wide.
Race 4: Workforce Express Maiden Plate – 1100 metres
1st DIAMOND INDULGENCE 2nd RHODESIAN LASSY 3rd HELP ME RHONDA 4th – COURT ACTION
Trainer Mr J Manzelmann informed stewards that HAPPY JONES, had struck itself in the float en route to the course. The gelding was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and did not reveal any abnormalities and the gelding was cleared to take its place in the field.
A pre-race veterinary examination of DIAMOND INDULGENCE, which was having its first race start for more than 12 months, did not reveal any abnormalities. The mare was examined by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and cleared to take its place in the field.
CORE WRITER (A. Dykes) began awkwardly.
Leaving the 800 metres DIAMOND INDULGENCE (App. B. Floyd) improved onto the heels of CORE HAYYLER (J. P. Stanley) and when restrained shifted out and inconvenienced CORE HAYYLER (J. P. Stanley). DIAMOND INDULGENCE was inclined to lay out for the remainder of the event.
The saddle on DIAMOND INDULGENCE (App. B. Floyd) slipped near the 700 metres placing its rider at a disadvantage in riding her mount out and resulting in DIAMOND INDULGENCE being inclined to lay out.
Near the 250 metres HELP ME RHONDA (D. Simmons) shifted out and contacted CORE WRITER (A. Dykes), which was taken inwards, resulting in both horses being inconvenienced.
Over the concluding stages HELP ME RHONDA (D. Simmons) shifted out in an attempt to take a run between CORE WRITER (A. Dykes) and COURT ACTION (T. O’Hara) where there was doubtful room. As a consequence HELP ME RHONDA was eased and went to the line without being fully tested.
HAPPY JONES (App. E. Ljung) raced wide throughout.
Race 5: Maguire Breeding & Racing Class 3 Plate – 1100 metres
1st SOME JOY 2nd HEZOFF 3rd ANDTHEBANDPLAYEDON 4th - SAINT BELLE
Trainer Mr R. Meek informed stewards that TIE HAND, had travelled badly in the float en route to the course. The gelding was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and, acting on his advice stewards ordered the withdrawal of the gelding at 1.43 p.m.
BARELY AN ANGEL (A. Dykes) was slow to begin.
Near the 300 metres HIGH PAYOFF (App. B. Floyd), which was weakening, was taken in by ANDTHEBANDPLAYED ON (M. Usher) and had to steady off the heels of HEZOFF (J. P. Stanley), which shifted out slightly.
MISS PARMA (App. E. Ljung) raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Evolve Protection Services Class 6 Plate – 1300 metres
1st HERITAGE STAR 2nd FOUR IRON 3rd CAPTAIN DARLING 4th - ZANATUS
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer J Manzelmann for the late notification of Jockey M. Usher as the rider for JUST THE TONIC.
Near the 1000 metres POWER TO EXCEED (App. S. McCullum) rolled in slightly and tightened the running of FOUR IRON (T. Bannon), resulting in ZANATUS (J. P. Stanley) having to race in restricted room.
In the early and middle stages BALBOA STAR (T. O’Hara) raced wide.
Leaving the 300 metres ZANATUS (J. P. Stanley) was disappointed for a run between FOUR IRON (T. Bannon) and BALBOA STAR (T. O’Hara) and had to shift back in to obtain clear running.
POWER TO EXCEED (App. S. McCullum) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of ROCKET A GOGO revealed no abnormalities.
App. S. McCullum was fined $200 under A.R. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions, namely 10 times, prior to the 100 metres.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED, and pre-race samples were taken from MISS MEDAZ, RIDE LIKE THE WIND, MAGIC WALTZ, HERITAGE STAR and POWER TO EXCEED
