Clermont Race Club, 13th July 2013:
Apprentice S. Cooke was fined $200 under L.R. 7 in that he rode at this meeting whilst unlicensed.
LATE RIDING CHANGES
When Jockey M. Usher was unable to fulfil his engagements, due to personal reasons, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: The Event Centre Maiden Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – WAY TOO PRICE CI 2nd – PASCALINO 3rd – GRIZZLE 4th – BLOOMSDAY
As the start was effected REDOUTE’S POWER (B. El-Issa) reared and lost considerable ground.
In the early stages HE’S A TERROR (T. Bannon) and BLOOMSDAY (J. Stephens) over-raced.
Approaching the 900 metres BLOOMSDAY, which was over-racing, shifted out, taking GRIZZLE (App. A. Butler) wider. Shortly after this incident GOLD DEMON (A. Dykes), MOXIE DOLL (D. Hayse) and HE’S A TERROR were tightened for room by GRIZZLE, which shifted in.
GOLD DEMON raced wide throughout.
GOLD DEMON lost its near fore plate in running.
Trainer M Barnham was advised that REDOUTE’S POWER would be required to obtain one barrier certificate prior to its next start.
Race 2: – Seven Local News Maiden Handicap Handicap – 1050 metres
1300 metres
1st – MAGIC FLAG 2nd - PURE WIDOW 3rd – GOODNESS GRACIOUS 4th – ONE TO FEAR
At the start PURE WIDOW (T. O’Hara) shifted out and bumped HAZY HUNTER (D. Hayse).
GOODNESS GRACIOUS (A. Coome) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 900 metres GOODNESS GRACIOUS was steadied off the heels of ONE TO
FEAR (T. Bannon), which shifted out slightly.
Race 3: – Carlton Mid BenchMark 75 Handicap 1050 metres
1st – EXCEED ALL LIMITS 2nd - CANNY SWIM 3rd – JEALOUS GUY 4th – ERFAAN
After riding in Race 2, Apprentice A. Butler became indisposed and was unable to fulfil his engagement for TAKE A STAND. Jockey D. Simmons was substituted. App. Butler was advised that he must provide a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.
At the start EIGHT PIECES (A. Pattillo) and ERFAAN (App. B. Appo) were tightened for room and lost ground when JEALOUS GUY (C. Pye) shifted in and EXCEED ALL LIMITS (B. El-Issa) shifted out.
At the 600 metres JEALOUS GUY shifted in, placing EIGHT PIECES in restricted room for a short distance.
Leaving the 300 metres EXCEED ALL LIMITS, which was held up for clear running behind TAKE A STAND (D. Simmons), shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so bumped CRAIGLEA COBRA (A. Cooma). EIGHT PIECES, which was following, had to be steadied.
Jockey A. Pattillo reported that after being forced to steady at the 300 metres EIGHT PIECES was unable to regain its momentum and sprint, which Jockey Pattillo attributed to the horse’s weight impost of 61kg. Jockey Pattillo said that the gelding ran on fairly over the concluding stages and he was not entirely disappointed with the performance.
Race 4: Yalumba Class 3 Plate – 1050 metres
1st – VOLTURNUS 2nd - METALLIC GREY 3rd – ROCKETMOUNTAINHIGH 4th – SHORT TRIP
Trainer D. Symons was fined $100 under L.R. 67 for the late declaration of Apprentice B. Appo as the rider of METALLIC GREY.
Trainer D. Symons was fined $100 under L.R. 42 for failing to lodge an amended stable return for ACCELERO.
Prior to the race patrons were advised that METALLIC GREY started in Race 8 at Townsville on Saturday last, 27th July 2013, in Race 8, the Global Welding Supplies Class 3 Plate, 1400 metres, and ran 6th, beaten 1.8 lengths.
TAN TAT ALPHA (T. Bannon), which had been fractious in the barriers, began awkwardly.
THIRTY THREE LARGE (App. N. Yadi) raced wide throughout.
App. B. Appo reported that METALLIC GREY was inclined to hang in for the majority of the home straight.
At the 200 metres TAN TAT ALPHA (T. Bannon) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of VOLTURNUS (B. El-Issa) when METALLIC GREY (App. B. Appo), which was racing to the outside, hung in. METALLIC GREY then continued to hang in and tightened the running of VOLTURNUS, which was taken in onto TALCUM (A Dykes) which in turn shifted in and bumped ACCELERO (A. Pattillo).
Race 5: NE Food QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap – 1100 metres
1st – HEROIC ACTION 2nd - CRAIGLEA VANCE 3rd – VERMITHRAX 4th – PUFF OF SMOKE
Trainer Ms O. Cairns was fined $100 under A.R.114 for failing to notify the scratching of BUCASIA BEACH by the prescribed time.
Jockey A. Pattillo reported that after being caught wide in the early stages of the event, he elected to restrain HEROIC ACTION and took up a position towards the rear of the field, contrary to its normal racing pattern where it usually leads.
VERMITHRAX (N. Yadi) raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Daily Mercury BenchMark 75 Handicap - 1560 metres
1st – SLIM HENRY 2nd - CIAMONDCOWBOY 3rd – MIDNIGHT HUSTLER 4th – HOLDONTOYAHORSES
Prior to the race BELLASPIRIT was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon. Acting on her advice that the mare was lame in the off hind leg, stewards ordered the withdrawal of BELLASPIRIT at 3.50 p.m. No deductions to betting were required. Trainer R. Cussons was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to BELLASPIRIT being permitted to race again.
HOLDONTOYAHORSES (D. Evans) blundered on jumping.
DAMN GOOD IDEA (C. Pye) was slow to begin.
SLIM HENRY (App. B. Appo) began awkwardly.
In the early stages HOLDONTOYAHORSES over-raced.
When being restrained approaching the 1300 metres RATTUS CONATUS (App. Yadi) shifted out, forcing MIDNIGHT HUSTLER (A. Coome) wider on the track. MIDNIGHT HUSTLER then raced wide until the 900 metres, where Jockey Coome allowed the gelding to stride forward and take up a position outside the leader.
Race 7: Visual Media BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1560 metres
1st – SHOWMETHEMONEY 2nd - PHIL DOESN’T CARE 3rd – ARIADNE 4th – SUPA MEGA DEADLY
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer A. Usher for the late withdrawal of BREAK OF DAWN.
FORECLOSURE (App. K. Grace) began awkwardly and lost ground.
In the early stages SUPA MEGA DEADLY (A. Pattillo) was inclined to over-race.
Near the 1300 metres the saddle on CHARISM (T. Bannon) shifted, resulting in Jockey T. Bannon being unable to fully test her mount.
Approaching the 100 metres PHIL DOESN’T CARE (B. El-Issa) shifted away from SHOWMETHEMONEY resulting in ARIADNE (A. Coome) being tightened for room for a few strides.
Jockey B. El-Issa was reprimanded under A.R. 137A(5)(a)(i) for using his whip on PHIL DOESN’T CARE in consecutive strides prior to the 100 metres.
